Once Mom Taffy had the spring theme in her head, her plans really started to blossom! In this post I will share some of the fun, colorful details from our shower.
First up - check out these adorable cupcake holders that we found! I love the vintage, graphic look of the tulip inspired print and the scalloped edges.

Although we did have cupcakes at the shower, my mom used the cupcake holders above to hold M&Ms and Skittles on the tables for our guests - a colorful tribute to my sweet tooth!

I already shared the cute seed favors that my mom put together and the signs that I made to go with them. She had me in charge of signage for the event, and asked me to make something for each table so the guests would know about the favors. I immediately thought of the vintage Valentine that I gave to Mr. Taffy, which I purchased the same time we bought the vintage shower invitations. The cute gardening birds fit perfectly with our theme! I changed the Valentine in Photoshop to personalize it for use as a double sided tented sign for the tables. I’ll show you the before and after:

And the other side:

As well as adding text, I cleaned the Valentine up a bit and swapped hair colors on the girl and boy.
Also, don’t mind the really faded opacity on the first sign, it was as brightly colored as the original at the shower.
And now, here are the other favors, which definitely looked very “bridal”, and were perfect for a shower, as well as a wedding. My mom tied it in the spring theme with the contents of the boxes.
Last fall, Mom Taffy picked up the latest issue of Martha Stewart Weddings, as she was intrigued by the favor display idea on the cover.

It mainly caught her eye because the two blues used on the boxes are straight out of our color palette! Way before she wanted to do anything for the shower, she wanted to do this. She ordered the light blue favor boxes from Sophie’s Favors, when her arm was still in its cast, so Mr. Taffy and I assembled the boxes for her. Later that week, Taffettes Miss A & L came over for a night of ribbon fun time.

They are awesome! In the distance, you may be able to see our black birdcage for the guestbook, and my Taffy ornament from Mrs. Eggplant!
We used the 1.5″ Xyron machine to adhere the ribbon, which was 3/8″ wide. The Xyron was amazing!!! We could feed two ribbons in at once, and the adhesive came off of everything except the ribbon, which made things very quick! We didn’t have to cut any adhesive off at all! Pre cutting all of the ribbon to the box diameter beforehand also helped. For the bows, we used photo square adhesives, as we didn’t want the entire ribbon to be sticky so the bows would have some loft.

A somewhat blurry image of the results. We were only expecting around 50 people for the shower, so we had to modify the way the boxes were stacked compared to Martha Stewart’s image. Mr. Taffy made a foamcore piece that stood in the middle, which helped make the “cake” look bigger than it was. I happened to have white tulips in the house at the time, and I loved them so much with the boxes that my mom used them on either side of the “cake” at the shower instead of more edible goodies, like on the MS cover. We did find the exact cake stand on the cover, which we really needed to fit the width of the boxes. It is from the Martha Stewart collection at Macy’s, but they don’t have them online anymore. We called every store in Metro Detroit before we found the size that we needed, and had to travel a bit to pick it up! It was quite the goose chase.
To go inside the boxes, my mom made chocolate bird nests the week of the shower. She mixed melted milk chocolate with coconut and let them dry, then placed Cadburry mini eggs in the center. Here is a picture of one: (the nest was very small on this one!)

This was a very simple DIY favor, and they were very delicious.
The day before the shower, my mom baked lemon and chocolate cupcakes, along with a few batches of buttercream frosting.

That evening, Taffetes A, L, and I went to my mom’s to help with the frosting. Of course, we got to frost some to try first, just to make sure that they were OK.

Now that the details are out, I can’t wait to blog about the shower itself, which was filled with joy and love. I was happy to help my mom with the shower plans as her broken arm healed.
