The Glossy Ladies’ Weekend!

March 27th, 2009 @ 10:56 am by Mrs. Gloss

We finally had a Glossy bridesmaid weekend get-together and I was SO excited to have all my favorite ladies in the same place at the same time. Some ladies are friends from high school and some from college, and they have never met before. So, it was a ’getting to know you, and I hope you all like each other’ experience.

We obviously went to see Bride Wars!! (This was even more appropriate since my MOH had just gotten engaged!) The movie was followed by dinner at Fire & Ice, and then we headed back to my apartment for drinks, wedding-themed movies (License to Wed, Made of Honor, 27 Dresses), and games!! I really love playing games - Apples to Apples, Catch Phrase (electronic - it’s so much more exciting with that beeping for some reason), Balderdash, and of course, the Wii!!

I had so much fun with all the girls and was really happy they could all get to know each other a little before the wedding.

Over lunch we talked about dresses.

We have decided to go with J.Crew, and by ’we’, I really mean ’I’, because I am obsessed with J.Crew. But, they are all totally on board. I figure they are no more expensive than dresses you could buy at David’s Bridal or elsewhere after you figure in the cost of alterations, and we will try and wait until J.Crew runs one of their 20% off sales.

Here are their choices:

Also on a similar note, we have to talk about shoes. I’m thinking bright yellow, since the dresses will most likely all be different (unless they all pick the same one). So, should I go with matching shoes? Or should they choose different style shoes as well? Really, I know no one will notice except me… but I’d still like to make a decision!

Which dress would you choose?

Lyndsey. It’s so elegant-looking!

I originally wanted to do fun shoes (purple — you approve, Mrs. Seabreeze?) but opted for a slightly more practical and reusable silver strappy sandal.

And what, no pictures of your girly get-together?!

I say let them choose their styles, but keep a very similar color! Different shoes would go differently with each dress!

I think I would choose Sydney. :-) great choices!

Sophia, or maybe Lyndsey. So cute! I think if they pick different dresses, then matching shoes would be super cute. If they all pick their own yellow shoes, they will probably be VERY different since there are so many shades of yellow. Matching shoes would be adorable and really pull everything together… but just watch the price because your BM might never wear those shoes again!

I am also going with jcrew for bridesmaid dresses. I love the ones you picked out! I am considering giving my girls a color and directing them to the site and letting them pick out their dress. There are so many options for so many different body types. Love it!

Fun yellow shoes all the way!! Unless you find a deal- I don’t think they need to match!

I would choose Sophia. They are all lovely. I gave my girls a choice of dress as well. 3 out of 6 chose the same dress! I also have them choosing their own black strappy sandals. (yellow dresses)

I have been looking for yellow shoes to match their dresses. I think if you choose the same shoe, you will need to find a decent dyeable.

Anyway, I love all the dresses!!

I love Sophia!! And I think matching shoes would be very sweet but it may be hard if your maids are picky (like mine!)

I am offering up the exact same BM dresses to my girls - navy in either the cotton cady or the silk tricotine. I am obsessed with the Erica dress, and will probably get it myself in a different color!

As for shoes, I am letting them pick whatever color and style they want, as long as they are not black or brown! My little sister is 5′11″, so she will probably be in flats, but the rest of my girls are shorties and will def. be rocking the 3-4 inch heels.

My girls all went with different JCrew dresses. I stumbled upon some great shoes while at the Nine West outlet, so I bought them all a pair for $19.95 each! I don’t think it matters either way if they all wear the same shoe or different– as long as they’re either inexpensive if they might not wear them again, or they’re something they can pick out that they WILL wear again.

My big, big, big recommendation is to let your BMs choose their own shoes. Picking a color, style, or heal height is fine - but let them choose a shoe that they are comfortable in. Every foot is different. They will be soooooo much happier in a shoe that fits their foot. Please, please let them choose their own!

I love J. Crew and they are all great options. I think I’d go with the Sydney! One of my birdesmaids really wants me to do yellow. I think the yellow shoes will look great!

If you sign up for a J.Crew card (only good in their stores so you shouldn’t get in too much trouble), you can get free alterations!
