The Other Dance

March 27th, 2009 @ 12:55 pm by Mrs. Powder Puff

We’ve already discussed at length our first dance situation. Whilst the mister has complete control over that area of the wedding, I at least get to choose the song for another important dance - the one with me and my dad!

Now, as much as I wish my father could whirl me around the dance floor like this:

Adorable, right?!

Alas, he simply is not that type of man. So I decided to pick a song that was upbeat and cute, but easy to dance to.

Here’s what I chose:

Simple, sweet, cute, but not weepy. Perfect.

Are you doing a father/daughter dance? What song did you choose?

Um, wow. That first papa’s amazing! My dad’s not that smooth — but I was pleasantly surprised to witness his finesse and rhythm while twirling Sister Bruschetta around the dance floor at HER wedding.

That father/daughter dance is nothing short of amazing! My dad and I lack coordination, so we’ll probably sway back and forth to some island song. :)

That first one is adorable. My cousin is giving me away and dancing with me, which has made it difficult to find a song. FH seemed to think it would be funny to dance to “White Wedding”, Yeah I nixed that idea fast. At the moment I am thinking brown eyed girl. I think it is fun, and not sappy. Plus I remember dancing with him to it at my father daughter dances (well that and Rock Lobster, but don’t know how that would go over as a dance song :))

Sadly, I won’t have a father-daughter dance since my father is deceased. But I would like to think that we’d do something simple, sweet, and not too weepy as what you show!!

This would be perfect for my dad and me. We have never been a weepy father-daughter pair and I have always intended on doing something fun. Like the tap dance routine at the end of Annie or something like this!

I LOVED my song . . . “I loved her first” by Heartland. I do not like country so I had my band sing it without an accent :)

We haven’t picked a song yet, but I have a few that I’m planning to put up to my Dad as options. One is Father & Daughter by James Taylor, another is My Little Darlin’ by Don McLean. We both love classic rock and older music like those guys, so I think they’re good options. Maybe Brown Eyed Girl, by Van Morrison. Although FI and I are dancing to Crazy Love by Van Morrison, so that might be too much Van for one night! :-)

What a great song! And how amazing is Dad # 1? I just sent my dad the youtube link asking if he thought he had the moves? My dad is already tearing up just talking about the wedding and I can’t handle his emotions that day so we need something upbeat and fun. My FI suggested a routine may help my dad from crying all over me! I do love I loved her first by Heartland, but I can both of us tearing up if we played that one!

Awww! I like the song you picked!! My dad chose the song: Always, In All Ways by Kenny Loggins. It’s actually pretty sweet!

That song is so sweet! We danced to You can let go by Crystal Shawanda. It’s not the original song that I picked, because it made me cry (ok made me bawl). But the right song went missing from the iPod right before the dance so I picked that one. I cried the whole time and so did my dad! It’s such a sweet song but definitely a weepy one.

mmm, I might have to completely copy you and use “Sweet Pea” as my father daughter dance. Sweet Pea is my nickname from my mom from when I was little!

My father does not like to be center of attention and becomes very awkward when under scruitiny, so I will be picking a short and sweet song for us to dance to so that I can put the poor guy out if his misery!

I don’t have any sort of relationship with my father & he isn’t invited to the wedding, so we decided to do a “family” dance and then Mr and his mom can have a dance together any other time, but not as a spotlighted dance. My thought is since our first dance will probably Brad Paisley “Then” immediately following our dance the DJ can segway into Brad Paisley’s “The World” and all the parents/sibs/neice & nephews will join us on the dance floor to rock out! Its a great segway since the chorus to “then” includes a line “now you’re my whole life, now you’re my whole world” which ties wonderfully into the lyrics for “the world”
