Daring or Sweet?

March 31st, 2009 @ 12:19 pm by Mrs. Ballet Flat

I have been having the hardest time settling on a look for the wedding. I do know that I want to copycat a Carrie Underwood look, because I’m always drooling at her makeup at every appearance/performance she has.

So, here’s the dilemma. Should I be the bold, daring bride, sporting a smoky eye look, or should I be the sweet, simple bride sporting a more neutral eye? Either way, I want neutral lips, because I never really look good with lip color, and I don’t want to be busy re-applying lip gloss all day!

Look #1

OR

Look #2

Daring or Sweet? : wedding makeup 31 90208A1

To help, here’s a pretty recent picture of myself with barely any makeup on! Just ignore the caterpillar eyebrows and the eyeglasses! (I wear contact lenses now!!)

Daring or Sweet? : wedding makeup 51 glasses

So hive, what do you think? Should I go for a daring or sweet look? :)

My vote is for the sweet look. :) But I’m not a big make up wearer so I’m biased.

Are you DIYing your makeup or having it done?

In either case, can you have the sweet look for the ceremony and some portraits and then change the eyes to the more daring look for the reception (and probably some more portraits)?

I love both looks! I think they’d both work depending on the time of day that you’re getting married, more dramatic for night and lighter for day etc.. Personally, I find smokey eyes hard to maintain as I have naturally dark under eyes and no matter what mascara or eyeliner I wear I almost always come out looking like I had a nasty bar brawl. =)

I think the sweet look may go better with your overall aesthetic.

Regarding lip color, while you want a neutral color, branch out just a bit more to a more pronounced browny pink. Pigment is important because it shows up much, much better in photos.

Look 2 is still a lot of eye make-up, so I think you’ll probably find that is enough.

Are you having a make-up trial? Could you start off trying look 2, and then build up to look 1 to see which you prefer?

I would take into account how much makeup you wear on a regular basis… I love the look of a smokey eye, but if your a minimum makeup girl everyday, a dramatic smokey eye might be a bit much. You want to be beautiful on your day, but still look somewhat like yourself :)

i heart makeup and i think for pics you need more — but like someone mentioned, its dependant on whether you are getting it done.

i am getting mine done and i def want fake lashes and eyes that “pop” — a sexy look. my thinking, is ANYONE can pull of the sweet and innocent look….

@rosychicklet: I’m having my makeup done by someone that morning.
@calicohope: Yeah, my reception is a day one.
@futuremrsmoose: I will definitely be getting the false eyelashes because I’m naturally blonde and lacking gorgeous lashes!

I’m going to be different here and say GO WITH LOOK #1!!! Especially if you want a more neutral lip. I think the very first picture posted is STUNNING! Dramatic, but not over done. In fact, it seems to be a perfect ‘in between’ of the 2nd photo and the last, more subtle, ones . Sure, sweet is nice… but this is your day to shine! (And yay for false eyelashes!)

I would also consider how much makeup you normally wear. In your pic, you mentioned you’re hardly wearing makeup… is that normal? Then stay simple. If you normally wear some makeup, the dramatic look might be good too. You don’t want to look like somebody else on your wedding day!

I love all your Carrie pics too!

P.S. - You’ll shine no matter what. You’re the bride! :)

I have to agree with others, I think sweet is the way to go. If you don’t typically wear a lot of makeup you’ll be more comfortable and feel like you’re in your own skin by going the sweet route. Play up the bold daring sexy look for the bachelorette party and sexy nights with your new hubby on your honeymoon!

I vote sweet. You seem like you’re normally more the sweet type, so you should embrace that and look like a glowing version of yourself on your wedding day. And I can’t wait to see how you look with that makeup and the dramatic false lashes! :)

I love her looks too- I’ve already been saving inspiration pictures of her for my trials!! I love the smoky, more dramatic eye with the pale (but not totally non-existent) lip. I think it looks especially great on blondes! I say go for it!!

Both looks could be good on you. Personally, I think the sweet is a little more wedding-y. If you are getting your make up done, do a trial - start with the sweet, and then keep adding til you get the daring and see what you think!
