And They’re Off!

March 31st, 2009 @ 2:19 pm by Mrs. Deviled Egg

After hours of brainstorming, collecting inspiration pictures, playing around in Adobe Photoshop Elements, hunting down iStock images and Photoshop brushes, testing papers, experimenting with different fonts and colors, shopping for envelopes online, second guessing myself, designing, printing, spending a lot (and I mean a whole lot) of quality time with a paper trimmer, rubber stamping, handwriting addresses, stuffing, sealing, and stamping, our invitations were dropped off at the post office yesterday afternoon!

Here’s Mr. DE carrying the box of all the invites into the post office.

I have to admit that all day yesterday before our mail station visit, my stomach was filled with butterflies. Partly because I think I finally had my “ah ha” moment where I realized that this whole getting married thing is actually happening. Something about putting the invites in the mail made everything seem real and official.

And, part of my nerves stemmed from all of the work I put into the invites. Making them myself really ate up a lot of my time (this was mostly my own fault because I had such a difficult time deciding on the design) and I put so much effort into making them look the way I wanted them to look. I am TERRIFIED that someone will find a mistake or I’ll discover that I screwed something up along the way with an address or by failing to match a name on the inside with a name on the outside. And worse yet, I am nervous for how people will receive them. I so badly want our guests to like them!

I’m going to give these babies a few days to get to their destinations before I share them with the hive. I’m really looking forward to showing them to all of you!

How did you feel when you finally mailed out your invitations?

I mailed out my invites last week, and I felt the same way. However, a few of my invites reached their (local) destinations the very next day, and my FI and I immediately got bombarded with emails and phone calls about how lovely the invitations are. And as more and more arrive at their destinations, we receive more phone call and emails, which is a great feeling.

Hang tight, I’m sure you’ll start feeling the love in a few days!

I think that mailing out the invites really does make it seem “real.” It becomes official when you formally invite everyone!

I felt the exact same way. And you’ll feel better tomorrow once people start calling you to tell you how much they liked them (and no metnion of any mistakes)!

Congrats!!!! I am about a week out, I think. I have spent the last two hours scouring JoAnn’s locations for my belly band ribbon- now I’m going to go back to addressing the return address on the outer envelopes! eeee!

I’m in the final stages of assembling, stuffing and addressing, and I’m so nervous. It’s been many many hours of agaonizing. I completely related to your first paragraph!

I can’t wait to see your invitations–I’m sure they’re stunning!

@Miss Bruschetta: I have a Fiskars rotary trimmer. http://www.fiskarscrafts.com/tools/t_desktop-rotary-trimmer.aspx

I also have one of their personal, portable paper trimmers, but over time the plastic has warped some and my cut lines weren’t as straight as they should have been. I think the rotary cutter does a better job of keeping things straight (still not perfect, but much, much better and less noticeable) because it’s a little more heavy duty.

We’re always on the same page, Miss DE! I just sent my invitations out today! I was really nervous about dropping them off, but the lady was so sweet and gladly agreed to hand cancel the envelopes! I was so concerned about hand-cancelling, it didn’t hit me until I walked out of the post office that mailing my invitations makes the wedding official! No backing out now ;)

And I am guilty of not fully reading my invitations out of fear I’ll find a mistake. The last time I paid attention to the text of my invites was when I approved the last proof from the printer. So I know how you feel!

P.S. I just noticed your post office is in Wampum. Have you or your fiance ever been to BeaveRun? That is where my fiance is having his bachelor party! It sounds really fun, but I’m a little nervous about the 40-mph go-karts and an injured groom and groomsmen on the wedding day!

I mailed out my invites yesterday too! Yea for May brides! I created the invites myself as well and I’m really really nervous that people will find mistakes or not like them, eek!! Its like you work so hard on these things and they become a part of you. Well good job on all the effort and for finally setting them free!

@BlushingBride530: I’ve only been to BeaveRun once and we watched motorcycles and go karts. I’ve heard that they give you a pretty thorough training session for the karts, so hopefully that will help prepare your groom and groomsmen and keep them safe. Sounds like a good idea for a bachelor party!

Wow.. I am currently going through *exactly* what you were feeling with the ‘ah ha’ moment! Okay, I haven’t gotten my invitations done, but it is certainly making the whole ‘getting married’ thing MUCH more realistic - almost tangible! The fiance and I have made plans to hammer out the invites tonight, actually! I will have to check back and give you an idea of how it went! =)
