STFU Marrieds

March 31st, 2009 @ 5:45 pm by Mrs. D'orsay

STFU, Marrieds is a site where couple’s Facebook friends screen shot their pages and send them to this site. Most of the pics are of couples using Facebook to communicate with each other and publicly post on each others walls, etc.

(source)

I’m not gonna lie, I find some of the posts funny. Everyone has their own PDA boundaries, and mine include Facebook.

Honestly, profile names like the one above, and couples that have a joint account (JoshandJane) confuse me. Do they really have all the same friends? Are they a singular, exclusive unit?

If someone just bought a house or it’s their wedding day. I think that’s a fair status update, but I’m sure everyone has seen friends that are part of a couple that leave tons of messages on each others walls, or give constant status updates. But to me, isn’t that what Gchat or email is for?

Do you and your fiance have “digital boundaries”? What do you think of the site?

I’m actually ok with couples having a joint account, but this is probably due to the fact that my FI doesn’t have a facebook and so most of our mutual friends just post messages to him on my account. Seriously though, too much mushy stuff totally warrants mockery!

HAHAHA! This is really funny. Oh gosh, I hope I’m not like that. I don’t think I am…am I? I definitely think there is a line when it comes to publicly declaring your love for your SO. Especially when it comes to the internet/fbook/myspace/twitter, etc. It’s like, I’m glad you’re “SOoOoOoO happy !!11!! woo woo” and all that jazz, but there comes a time when no one cares. I might have to bookmark this site!

This is an interesting topic! I know I’ll occasionally post an “I miss my FI, am very in love with my FI, is blessed to have my FI” etc., but, generally, if I’m feeling that way, I tend to just tell him. I have definitely had friend who I’ve wished would get a room…er, IM box.

Wow, Mary’s an idiot. Hope Josh dumps her.

(Ok a bit harsh, but … seriously?!!)

Too much. I am kinda siding with evil lou above here…

Seriously though, I think in the cyberworld, you need to not set yourself up for ridicule because obviously, it can come back to bite you…

Yeeeaaah…that might be taking it a step too far ;) I definitely don’t think me and my guy take it to that level on facebook (at least I hope not!).

That site does seem a little mean-spirited though… What if the “lovey-dovey” couple found themselves on the site unknowingly. Could cause some major hurt feelings unless they have a good sense of humor!

That is just obnoxious it is like couples who are constantly texting each other all the time. Also the mood says in luv with josh. Well I would hope so otherwise you wouldn’t be with him. I wonder how Josh feels about that. It just seems sort of jr high/high school.

I don’t even publish my relationship status of facebook. But when someone posts, “I love my hubby, I have the best man, etc” I think it’s nice to know they’re happy. (Even though I have the best man!) Mary, however, seems a bit past too much.

I’ve been exposed to a lot of Negative Nancies lately and I am exasperated. I am super tired of the negativity I see some places just because I am not single. If the site was about posting TMIs in general, it would be one thing but it’s about married people — to me it comes off as malicious and envious rather than snarky. All FH and I’s convos on FB are pretty professional, but that’s not really the point.

That website is mean.

It seems like half of the posts are funny (like the one Miss D features here) but some of them are truly mean. There is one in which a wife has her status as, “…is hoping her hubby has an awesome birthday!”

I mean, is that *really* TMI? Seems pretty harmless to me.

With that said, I’m in a relationship and am still grossed out by couples that go overboard with facebook PDA.

I was wondering…does anyone else care that much Mary? I mean, I love my FI, and all that mushiness, but we just say it TO each other. What’s the point of putting it out on FB? I’m confused why someone would put 15 wall posts in a row about their Hubby/FI/SO whatever on their FB page…don’t they have a life?

i gotta admit, that site gave me a good laugh. there’s definitely a place for declarations of love and appreciation; i just don’t think FB is that place. but i’m not big on PDA either, so maybe that’s just me.

So this is the FIRST time I’ve heard of this site… I went on and immediately saw someone I know featured on there!

How funny.

I would like this site more if it was more discriminating. Like the poster above, I find spouses posting things like ” I hope husband is having a happy birthday” to be within the bounds of propriety for normal people and other things I have seen posted; to paraphrase- ” yay my husband is getting home from his trip in 3 hours” and ” my wife is awesome” It would be a much better site if they stuck to only posts that go above and beyond what most people would consider reasonable or healthy. Like the example above. She’s clearly bored out of her mind.

As you know I am a facebook slacker ( ignore the part where I just did 15 quizzes which is entirely Ree’s fault) So we do not have crazy messages to each other. I did have to facebook divorce his old profile to marry his new one after he lost access to it.

WOW! Thanks for the new comic relier, Miss D!

My FI and I both have FB, and though I agree that posts like “Hope my (insert significant other here) has a great birthday” or things like that, we definitely draw the line there. No crazy postings how we’re missing each other and we haven’t even left each other’s sights yet… Redonculous!

@Kaitlin:
Yes, but if you hope your husband has a great birthday, shouldn’t you say that TO him … as in, in person? And wouldn’t that be enough? You wouldn’t walk around telling everyone you meet how much you hope your husband has a great birthday, you wouldn’t send out a mass email to all your friends and colleagues saying the same, so why post it on Facebook?

We don’t have a site like that (waaaaay too much) but we do share an e-mail account, which we use for our joing billing information that gets e-mailed, stuff like that. We still have separate accounts.

That website is crazy … wow!!!
I created my FI a FB page bc I wanted him to connect to his friends and family too. I do write on his wall - but more sarcastic remarks. If you didn’t know us you wouldn’t gag but if you did would think was cute.. that sort of thing. Once in a while I will embarrass him and write something crazy but .. he doesn’t reciprocate haha I guess that’s our boundary. If I were like Mary he’d deactivate his account for sure…. but have I witnessed it amongst people I’m friends with… oh yes.. and rather than barf.. it’s like WHY!?

I can’t imagine having a joint Facebook page nor can I fathom my mood as being “In love with Mr. G” every.single.minute/hour/day. That website provided me with a few needed chuckles! :)

I agree with Miss joey… My man would be too scared to come by me with a ten foot pole if I gushed about my love for him publicly. As a matter of fact, my man deactivated his facebook account because he dislike’s all things ‘public’.

wow. okay so i’ll occassionally write something about my FI… but that’s crazy. That site is kinda funny/ kinda mean. It does get annoying when people write that mushy stuff ALL the time, but every once in awhile is alright in my book ;)
