This past weekend I realized that I have spent way too much of my time obsessing over my wedding attire. Ipso facto, I also realized that I have spent way too little time obsessing over Mr. Powder Puff’s wedding ensemble. Shame on me!
Well, no more! I hereby declare that I shall spend just as much time thinking, dreaming, planning and generally driving myself crazy over Mr. Powder Puff’s wedding threads as I do my own.
This is a relatively easy task to complete, since I’m not a fan of the classic tuxedo. Cummerbunds, no thank you. Bow ties, not for me. Ascots… don’t even get me started on ascots.
So naturally, in lieu of a tux, what other option do we have, but a fabulous suit. Something like this beauty:
I make all the posters for Mr. Joey’s band, the Tailenders. I’m no professional by any means, but I love doing it because it gives me a chance to be creative and be a part of activities he enjoys.
When we thought about invitations, I suggested doing a full-sized poster, and Mr. Joey loved it. We didn’t know how or what it would look like, but just that it would be big and different. No mention of our parents, no mention of bringing two souls together, just the details and the design.
I came up with 10 to 15 options for posters. The early versions were busy and not quite right. Eventually I worked my way down to one basic design and it was just a matter of figuring out what size paper to use and where to place the design on the paper.
We have this great Modest Mouse poster hanging by our front door that’s about 9 inches wide and 23 long that we both love. It fits perfectly in the Clips frame available at IKEA. I decided if we were going big, then we were going big. That would be the size of the paper. Mr. Joey agreed, and I re-designed the invitation to fit.

Attention all San Diego hive members, and anyone else who is willing to drive! Miss Joey is going to be in town for the weekend, so we are having a meet up in San Diego!! Miss Joey and I will both be there, along with some of our fabulous hive members.
We will be meeting on Friday, April 17th at 8:00 PM at Extraordinary Desserts in Balboa Park. If you haven’t been there, they have some absolutely incredible desserts. Just look at this picture!!

I took this picture from their website…isn’t it making you hungry?

(Thanks to our photographer for these pictures — and to Mrs. Avocado for assisting me with the technological aspects of blogging, so you can enjoy the Bruschettas in “HD”!)
We changed outfits — ducked in a corner of the adjacent parking garage (shhh….) — and fetched the purple balloons we’d stashed in the car. I wanted a lush, green setting for our outside shots, so we set out on foot for Washington Square.

“Make an elegant invitation statement without the fuss. Stylish invitation sets with matching envelopes, reception and response cards included.”
After a long week of constant partying with my Gocco, our invitations are officially out!! I’m really relieved/excited to say that they are on their way to our guests, and I can’t wait to get RSVPs back!
These invites have become my biggest worry, really. I was always second-guessing myself on the design of the invites, because hey, you only do this once, and I wanted my guests to get excited about our big day!
I made everything in our invitation suite using the Scriptina and Optimus Princeps fonts, which are freebies! All of the paper for our inserts, as well as the envelopes, are in Stardream Opal. I found this paper to be cheapest at Anchor Paper online (where I had them cut to size for me at Office Depot and Kinko’s), and I bought the envelopes at Envelope Mall.
I made DIY our pocketfolds, and you can find detailed instructions for those here. I’ll still say, they aren’t as bad to do as it seems. Just tackle a project like this early on in the wedding planning process, so it’s not too much to take on at once!
I used my Gocco PG5 to print everything for our invitations. If you want to see how I made the invitations and RSVP cards, here’s a post on how I made those. For those of you who are wondering, it does take a little longer for the ink to dry on Stardream paper, but once it dries, it will not smear!

“We got married. No, seriously…we did. Like, that was OUR wedding last Friday.”
That’s how our morning conversations have started over the last 3 days. We look at each other and get the goofy faces going, and then start laughing. Is that weird? Haha!
It was perfect. I’m not joking. There were no (major) snafus and I DID NOT CRY. I have to say that in all caps because for the year leading up to the wedding, any time I would hear a country song about a wedding or a daddy or anything like that, I would start tearing up. I still do. I watched Mrs. Cupcake’s ceremony video in her blog post and got all weepy and sentimental. But my own wedding? Nope. Not a single tear. SUCCESS!
Here are some teaser shots by the amazing Cohens. I am literally drooling over these shots and can’t wait to see more.

I’m a guest judge for the big DIY contest over on our sister site Project Wedding! The entries were divided between the 5 judges (me, Design Sponge, Kenzie Kate, Once Wed and Hostess with the Mostess), and each of us selected our favorite project.
There were so many amazing entries, but this Panel Pocketfold Invitation was my number one choice amongst the projects I evaluated. I was really impressed by how professional the invites looked, and the detailed instructions make it easy for brides to replicate.

Our wedding, in one word, was perfect. A few months ago, a coworker of mine told me that the baker gave her the wrong wedding cake, her mantilla was placed on inside-out, and the bottom of her dress was filthy prior to the ceremony, but that her day was still perfect. I thought she was crazy. I couldn’t understand how her day was still perfect with those mishaps.

… hardcore. I was wandering around VisaJourney.com and checked out the flow chart that they have for the fiance visa (K1). In reviewing the documents for the next step of the K1 Visa process, I came to the brink of a panic attack. The visa process is so incredibly bureaucratic and I’m just so frustrated with this entire thing.

While I’m in the UK I can’t work, and the 1-134 form says I need to have a statement from my “current employer” and a statement from a bank officer saying how much has been deposited in the past year and what my current balance is. The purpose of this form (as far as I can tell) is to ensure that Mr. D and I won’t be on welfare in the US. I’m hoping that gathering my previous tax returns will show that while I’m in the US I am capable and willing to make money, but I just don’t know if that will be enough.

I’ve been an Eeyore lately, all doom and gloom about… everything. Chalk it up to having two months to go before our big day, but I’m feeling panic, denial, and a complete lack of motivation in equal amounts. With 60-ish days to go, I don’t feel like we’ve accomplished enough, will ever accomplish enough, or even want to accomplish enough!
After much mulling and pondering, though, I’ve remembered that sometimes (usually!) it’s all about the attitude. It’s so surprisingly easy to forget who you are as you plan a wedding, to lose sight of your priorities and preferences, to revel in the stress because at least that’s an acceptable feeling for a bride.
And me, I’m a “bright side” kind of person. At least, I am when I’m not making backup plans for worst-case scenarios.
Situation: My guy worked all weekend on a side gig that took up way more time than expected. After a long and somewhat frantic Sunday, we’re still feeling behind and unrested.
Bright side: He’s feeling good about his ability to make extra money (good money!) and the usefulness of his skills. I remembered that I need plenty of alone time to be a settled, sane person. And I’m proud of him. It may be a bit retro, but I know he can take care of our family if necessary.

I tried on my dress again over the weekend. I hadn’t put it on since the day I bought it back in October, so I was a little anxious. At the time, the dress did zip, but it was tight. Really tight. Since it was a sample dress, what I tried on was what I bought, and the saleswoman assured me that my alterations person would be able to let it out a bit where needed.
My goal, like any typical bride, is to ensure that it won’t need to be let out! However, after a long Chicago winter, I was desperately hoping that I hadn’t packed on the pounds and that the dress would still zip. It did, and I could sort of sit down in it and as long as I didn’t want to take a lot of deep breaths, all would be good. Needless to say, I’ve got a little work cut out for me, and fortunately my first fitting is still months away! It was great spending some time with my mom this weekend and seeing how my veil and shoes worked with the dress. Love it!
So anyway, back to the blue. I took a lot of time looking at different garters and trying to decide what look to go for - something a little more sultry, a little va-va-va-voom, or sweet and innocent? Needless to say, there are endless options out there, from favorite sports teams to garters adorned with feathers and crystal.

Planning a wedding brings out the best in some people, and the worst in others.
At times, it seems like everyone has an opinion about some aspect of the planning, and most aren’t shy about letting their ideas be known.
