Hi hive,
So, a conversation at work today has left me pondering my family’s involvement in wedding planning. Thus far, my FI and I have done all of the planning on our own. We’ve booked our ceremony and reception sites, our JP, caterer, and DJ. I’m planning on dress shopping this summer (bring on the tan), and my mom will be joining me for that. The ladies at work were describing how involved their mothers and FMILs were during the planning process. I’m super close with my mom, but she has a LOT going on and has not been a part of planning.
How involved are your mothers in your wedding planning? Also, what are you doing to incorporate your FMIL into planning?

In early March, a nor’easter blew through the region, and Mr. Bruschetta seized our surprise snow day and sought springtime — at the 2009 Philadelphia Flower Show!
I was bee-side myself at the opportunity to turn an otherwise mundane Monday into a date with the mister.
Every inch of the Convention Center embraced this year’s theme, Bella Italia — a celebration of Italy’s gardens, cuisine, fashion and entertainment.

Now that the weather is warming up, it’s about time this little birdie got her feathery tush in gear and resumed her recaps!
I’m sure every girl thinks about what it would be like to walk down the aisle with the love their life waiting at the end of it. Well, this is how it went for me.
Man I loved the train of my dress. It was actually one of my favorite parts of the dress.
Mr. Cowboy Boot and his family haven’t always been on the best of terms (no one’s fault, in particular). Tumultuous teenage years can often send children and their parents in unwieldy directions. I know mine did. But, I also happen to come from a family that is overly-communicative (read: two psychologist parents), therefore most of our problems (read: my teenage angst) were solved by the time I left for college. Mr. CB and his family, however, had a harder go of it.
That is, until recently.

When we lived in New York City, we went up to his parents’ house to get away from the grime and grit that Manhattan can be. They live in the rolling countryside of the Finger Lakes region. It’s amazing, quite frankly.

“Make an elegant invitation statement without the fuss. Stylish invitation sets with matching envelopes, reception and response cards included.”
Oh yes, I am the proud owner of 80 of these bad boys.
My plan of action (POA) is to line 4 of these down each table with flowers of varying heights and types but in the same color family… say, orange or yellow.
I snatched these up at IKEA and I think they provide the perfect simple, but modern DIY centerpieces for our tables. And at 4 per table (of 8), each couple could take one home if they wanted to.
The Wedding Salon is hosting their annual bridal show on Monday, March 23rd at the Roosevelt Hotel. Mrs. Lovebird and I will be attending, and Weddingbee PRO Laura Nadeau will be there giving makeovers! Featured celebrity guests include Sylvia Weinstock, Colin Cowie, and David Tutera.

Mr. Joey is a T-shirt guy. He loves them and has all sorts of odd ones. As I was perusing Weddingbee the other day, I noticed a post about Sales from Around the Web and a comment made by Mrs. Toucan in particular about a sale at Threadless. Thanks Mrs. Toucan!
We LOVE Threadless. The T-shirts are so cool, and you know the odds of running into someone wearing the same Threadless shirt you’re wearing are pretty slim.
That being said, I had full intentions of filling my Threadless cart with $5 shirts for Mr. Joey, but couldn’t find many I liked in his size. Instead, I decided to by thank you T-shirts.
We have a lot of people helping us with this wedding. Some jobs big, some small, but all important to us. So along with some homemade Limoncello and Lumpia, I decided that I wanted all our friendors to get something that would represent us and them. So for $70 including shipping, I bought 12 shirts. Yes, 12! One of them is going to be one of my wedding gifts to Mr. Joey, one is a little present for our new nephew, one a birthday gift for a friend, and one is for me, just because. So for less than $6 apiece, I got some awesome shirts!!
For the Band:

As promised, here are some pictures of the save-the-date cards that were sent to our guests this week. The fiance and I worked so so so hard on these, and I hope our guests appreciate them as much as I do!
Here’s a close up of the front page:
It opens by rotating the pages to the side.
In my last post, I introduced you to our bluegrass band, Good Wood. In my next post, I’ll let you hear some of their music and detail the craziness at the end of the evening. But now, as the band is taking a break between sets, it’s time for us to take the stage for the garter and bouquet toss!
I’ve always been a big fan of bouquet tosses. As a single girl, I loved the symbolism of “passing the torch”. I’ve caught my fair share of flowers over the last few years– and it’s always been a source of great entertainment and pride. Plus, free pretty flowers are a nice souvenir!
The garter toss, however, gives me mixed feelings. I’ve always found the symbolic “deflowering” to be somewhat tasteless, and not particularly relevant (myself having been deflowered a long while ago). Also, while it seems that everyone enjoys watching the groom fish around in the bride’s dress for her undergarments (ack!), my observation has been that male audience participation in the garter toss is always less enthusiastic than female participation in the bouquet toss.
But whatever, Mr. CP seemed eager to toss a garter, and I’m an equal opportunity bride, so I decided to oblige, and we had both…

Hello Hive!
We’re very excited to welcome Maine photographer Emilie Sommer to the hive! Emilie is not only a photojournalistic photographer that has worked at USA Today and the Washington Post, but she’s also a bride to bee! I had the pleasure of meeting Emilie at Engage08 – she is so sweet and I can’t wait to follow along on her photography and wedding planning adventures! Please click on over to Weddingbee PRO and help me give her a warm hive welcome! :)

Have you ever seen Hello Dolly? There is a scene where Dolly sings to Mr. Vandergelder, “Goodbye! Goodbye! Goodbye! Goooooooodbye. Don’t try to stop me Horace!” Dolly says goodbye, but she doesn’t really mean it, since she has no intention of ever leaving.
Scroll to 44 seconds in the video.
I show you this so you understand what I mean when I say I’m pulling a ’Hello Dolly’. I’m saying, “Goodbye,” but what I really mean is, “Goodbye for right now.” Friends and family frequently ask if I’m still writing for that Weddingbee thing, and my response is, “Always!” I don’t know if I’m ever going to be able to give it up completely, and so you will continue to hear from me sporadically throughout the years until Bee says, “Enough Avocado!”
But for right now, I need a break. Somehow, life seems even crazier now that the wedding is over. I have school to worry about, a husband to take care of, and lots of other exciting things going on in my life. Rumor has it though, that my sister is considering throwing her own big party this fall, and since she has promised me the official role of wedding planner, I’ll have plenty to tell you about!
Why the big dramatic post about my break?

Up to this point, Mr. S and I have booked all of our vendors but one… our baker! As you may remember, this decision has been weighing heavily on my mind as I posted about it here and here and here! Whew, that’s a lot of cake talk.

We finally decided to have our tasting at The Sugar Syndicate, located on Chicago’s northwest side. The Sugar Syndicate is part of something called The Sweet Collective, which is comprised of three separate businesses catering to your sweet tooth, all under one roof - The Sugar Syndicate, Rich Chocolates & Candies, and Ruth & Phil’s Gourmet Ice Cream. I liked that we were going to get a more personal experience from this little boutique bakery.

With our wedding only three days away, I have been preparing my skin, teeth, and hair to look and feel their best on the big day. I’m certain that I will spend the evening talking to and hugging a lot of guests, and really, who wants to hug a dry-skinned bride? That being said, I thought I’d share the products I have been using. The best part? They are all inexpensive items you can get at your local drug store.
My skin requires the most preparation, as it gets extremely dry and dull. The two products that have been my skin’s saviors are St. Ives Apricot Scrub and Johnson’s Softlotion. St. Ives Apricot Scrub is in one word, amazing. The scrub removes dull, dead skin cells and leaves my skin feeling smooth. After the scrub, I use Johnson’s Softlotion, which moisturizes and hydrates my skin, leaving it soft and smooth.
Congratulations to the winners lilneko69, Miss Marshmallow, Bunnylove08, and Chelsea L!
