I have ADD-ish tendencies. For instance, I have four postings in draft status, all partially written. Co-workers often complain about my inability to stick to one subject, and claim they’ve felt symptoms of vertigo when I present virtual meetings and alt-tab between five windows at lightning speed.
Wedding planning is no exception. I wish I could tackle tasks in a chronological order, but there’s no rhyme or reason as to what I’ll dedicate my time to. This weekend, I decided to think about our guestbook. I’m a huge fan of Polaroid guestbooks and wish trees (much like Mrs. Lemon’s), so my initial thought was to create wish cards with a place for guests to slap their photos.
When I first saw the PoGo, my ADD kicked in and I began thinking about sticker pictures and how much I love them! I wish I could say that the sticker pictures below are from back in the day when we were teenyboppers; but no, they are from last year. This is why I indulged in my PoGo purchase without thinking through how we would set up this gadget for use by our guests.

You only have one more day to enter one of our biggest giveaways ever! Kathlin Argiro is giving away up to 5 bridesmaid dresses to one lucky bride, and a rehearsal dinner dress to another! To enter, all you have to do is send us n inspiration board or a Polyvore board using one of Kathlin’s dresses to guest at weddingbee.com.
Today we’re featuring Shelley’s Victorian/Edwardian picnic wedding in the park.

Theresa writes, “Since I have pictured my dress, I can tell you that this is where most of my inspiration comes from. My fiance and I are planning a whole weekend getaway for our friends and family. What we want more than anything is to have time to celebrate our love with all those important to us. The wedding day itself is fashioned after a Victorian/Edwardian picnic in the park, since my dress is circa 1900. The colors are taken from an Alphonse Mucha painting (behind the dress) and are warm, but muted, pinks, greens, blues and ivory. The floral sashes and beautiful fabric choices Kathlin offers are just perfect! My maids will be my fiancé’s sister, and 4 of my best friends, one from each stage of my life (which seems weird, but I have moved a lot)! C from Australia, my childhood best friend, S from NY, my teen best friend, KS from Louisville. my College best friend, and KA from Knoxville who is my grown-up best friend. These women have done so much to shape my life and I love them all!”

I love hair accoutrements. Last week, I discovered Etsy seller Tree and Kimball via Oh Joy! and fell in love. The object of my affection arrived yesterday, and it is a beauty!
I thought I’d share my find with the hive for anyone obsessed with finding the perfect hair accessory for bridesmaids or for yourself. Lisa expertly layers vintage finds like lace, beads, and other fabric remnants to make most of her pieces. I tried on my headband last night and it is just too cute!

“Make an elegant invitation statement without the fuss. Stylish invitation sets with matching envelopes, reception and response cards included.”
Our invitations have become the bane of my existence. A series of technological disasters have caused me to want to throw in the towel and order the dang things online. But the price, oh the price! And all of the beautiful paper I bought would go to waste. What a conundrum!
Solution time! I was recently introduced to the wonders of Printable Press. Basically, it works like this:
Step 1: You choose from an array of gorgeous, and I mean GORGEOUS, invitation designs.
Step 2: Contact Printable Press to customize the invitation. Colors, wording, all of it, can be changed.
Step 3: You pay a mere $60, they email you the file, and you can print it on your home printer.
Step 4: You fling yourself around the room in a daze of joy nearing hysteria, because your invites are done, and they’re fabulous!
Check out some of their designs.
WPPI taught me something. I went to WPPI and realized that all the photography bloggers I read are just students of the medium, much like myself (although in a much more advanced stage). It wasn’t until I attended my first WPPI event that I learned who the masters in the wedding/portrait photography industry are.
The thousands of people pictured in the photo below by Lynn-Kai Chao are all wedding and portrait photographers. And every single one of these photographers from around the world are watching 5 people show them how they take such amazing pictures.
Are you curious about who the masters were?

I want to start this blog entry with a bit of background on me as the bride. I dream of weddings, and have done so ever since I was a kid. I can imagine almost every part of the wedding: what the tables will look like, my groom at the end of the aisle, the centerpieces, my mom and sister, and my bridesmaids. But there is one major problem. I have always had a hard time imagining myself as “the bride”.
Until about a month ago I couldn’t imagine myself in a wedding dress. I couldn’t imagine myself in white, and I couldn’t imagine myself walking down the aisle. A lot of that had to do with “the dress”. I couldn’t imagine one that would be “me”.

This weekend was a huge success! We met with the decorators on Saturday and discussed their ideas for the reception space beautification project. I am so impressed with their ideas; I can’t wait to see their vision come to life! Here is a very rough drawing of what the layout will look like.

When guests walk in, they will enter the cocktail area. The guestbook and gift tables will be near the entrance, along with the homemade photo booth. There will be staggered pedestal tables near the bar, and Chinese lanterns on the ceiling. The cocktail area will be separated from the dinner area by trees planted in white wooden boxes and covered in white lights. The entrance to the dinner area will be accented with curtains that are pulled back to each side.
Don’t worry, we sent (most of!) our thank yous out months ago. It’s just taken me this long to get around to sharing them with you.
On a great recommendation from Mrs. Eggplant, whose thank you cards I adored, I decided to go with PS Print for the printing. I designed the following layout in Photoshop, and easily uploaded it to their website:

Screen-printing is one of my absolute favorite hobbies. I think I’ve burned close to 100 screens in the last two years alone. It’s a little cheaper than buying a print Gocco, and you’ll be able to print in a larger format. You’ll just need to buy a screen, some photo emulsion, a squeegee, and print out a transparency of what you want to print. In all, it will set you back about $40 if you order from Dick Blick.
First, you’re going to prepare your screen. I used a Speedball kit and squeegeed a thin layer of emulsion onto my screen, covering both sides evenly. We have a completely dark room under our porch where I leave most of my screens overnight. We seal it up during to winter to save money on heating costs, so I left my screens in a large cardboard box. I elevated the corners of the screen slightly with tiles for circulation, and covered the whole box with a black cloth. From this point on, you’ll want to expose the screen to as little light as possible until you make your exposure.
Once the screen was dry (~18 hours later) I used the same box to help make an exposure.

My wedding hair and makeup trials are this Sunday, and I have zero inspiration photos. Zip. Nil. Nada.
So, I’m going to spend the next few days doing some necessary homework. My “textbooks”?
My cluelessness also extends to makeup (eek!). I thought an easy place to start would be to identify the celebrity I most closely resemble, so I could target the makeup search to my “double” — but when I uploaded my photo (and just a note: this picture is about two years old, and my hair’s grown a bit past my shoulders since then!), two sites generated completely different match lists!

So, whatd’ya think? Who’s walking around Hollywood with a Miss Bruschetta-like mug? And where do you recommend I search for hair and makeup inspiration?
Since we’ve picked such an, err, unnatural shade of green for our accent color, I’ve pondered different possibilities for our floral elements. I thought it would be nice to add touches of green in the bridesmaids’ bouquets and in the boutonnieres. We’d then keep my bouquet and Mr. S’s boutonniere snowy white, to set us apart.
Since the shades of green we can get in nature tend to be either more of a lime or a deep forest green, I’ve played around with different ideas. One option I came across (isn’t searching via Google images fabulous?!) were hypericum berries. They’re kind of fun and modern, and they also add a textural element that I really like.

Now that we’ve selected the delectable dishes we’re serving at the reception, I figured it was time to dig the Gocco out of my closet (a feat in and of itself) and make the menu cards.

I scanned the lasercut motif that is on the front of our invitation into Adobe Illustrator and laid out the menu text in a mix of Feel and Georgia fonts. I then Goccoed the menu onto Kunzite paper, a metallic lilac shade from Paperandmore.com, rounded the corners, and mounted the menu onto a mix of grape, violet, and plum #10 cards from Paper Source (on sale for 50% off!).
Today’s wiki is Couples Shower. Rather than the traditional bridal shower that only allows female guests, a couples shower is typically attended by both male and female guests and gives an engaged couple the opportunity to share in the excitement of a shower. Because couples showers aren’t very common, anyone that has had or has been to a couples shower can help out in contributing to the wiki!
What are some great themes for a couples shower? How do you plan a shower that appeals to both men and women? How do couples showers differ from bridal showers? What should guests expect when they attend couples showers? Do you know of any good games you could play at a couples shower? Share your knowledge in the wiki:

Okay, I know, Mobile? But honestly, it’s a gorgeous city with a ton of culture and history. Mobile is also the home of American Mardi Gras (don’t believe me? Check out this article).

Shortly after Mr. CC and I started dating, we celebrated his 30th birthday with a weekend excursion to Mobile. I want to share with him the cuisine, culture, and history of Mobile. We had a great time. We need to go back and do it again. There’s just too much to do in one weekend.
Here’s my insider’s guide to honeymooning in Mobile, Alabama.
