Sure, I’m marrying my best friend. It’s a beautiful day… blah blah blah. But let’s get real: the reason to get married is to have a tasting. You know my motto: food before dude.
And oh is there going to be some delicious food that evening…
Bundle of Italian spicy greens with grilled artichokes, goat cheese crostini, a truffle vinaigrette.
The event design was heavily influenced by our modern tastes and the geeky nature of our venue. We tried to infuse the day with lots of unexpected details that maintained this modern, geeky theme and showcased what kind of couple we are. We also wanted the day to be special not only for us, but also for our family and friends by paying homage to traditions while revamping them to fit our needs.

Dana (one of my bridesmaids) and I went to Minneapolis to visit Kiera and Dona (bridesmaid and Matron of Honor) for the weekend. While I was there, we went to David’s Bridal to try on the dresses that I picked out for them to wear for the wedding. The girls tried on two styles of dresses. The “bubble dress” as we are calling it, and another style made of the same material. They decided that they are fine wearing either one. I think both dresses are cute, although the bubble dress is much more my style.

I thought a timeline of events would best describe the craziness of the morning of the shoot.
7:30 AM. I’m desperately trying to use Mr. Martini’s steamer to steam out the wrinkles in my dress, because I don’t own a steamer. Unfortunately, the steamer hasn’t been used in a long time, so the entire dress is starting to smell like mildew. It’s okay, I think. I can bear it, and nobody will know.
8:00 AM. Mr. Martini tells me that I have to find another parking spot for the car, because of street cleaning. I thought it would be okay because I’d be leaving by 9 AM for my makeup appointment, but he informs me that the car has to be moved by 8:30 AM. Mr. Martini heads to work (he was only able to take a half day) as I head toward the car to find another parking spot.
8:15 AM. I’m circling and circling all over Astoria trying to find a parking space. Then I take another look at the signs, and realize that street cleaning doesn’t start until 11:30 AM. I shake my fist in the air and cry out profanities.
9:00 AM. I wanted to leave by this time, even though it would only take about half an hour to get to my 10 AM appointment with Makeup Blush in Edgewater, but I have this knack for always running late and I wanted to get an early start. Of course, this is when I realized that I forgot to bring shoes. Any shoes. A single tear rolls down my cheek as I glare at the shoes I came in that morning - my Uggs. I shake my fist in the air and cry out profanities.

I saw my Dad over the weekend and he said he had a great idea for the Father - Daughter dance. I have to admit, I felt like his choice of song would be so bad it might make me cry (not really). Maybe a little Englebert Humperdinck? Yes, I remember a time in the ’80s where my Dad listened to him a lot and my sister and I would hide from embarrassment in our own house.
But it wasn’t Mr. Humperdinck he longed to boogie to. Then I thought it would be something a little more Sri-Lankan. Perhaps this?

About a month ago I was scoping out the arts and crafts section at Wal-Mart when I came across this Martha Stewart Tissue Paper Bouquet Kit on sale for $6.87. We were on our way out of town because Mr. K was competing in a duathlon. I wasn’t exactly looking forward to spending lots of time by myself waiting for him to cross the finish line, so I thought the kit would be a great diversion!

I am struggling with everything from finding an age appropriate/body type flattering, affordable dress, to explaining to my parents that although I have been married before (military wedding with 2 friends attending 16 years ago that cost $302.00 total) this is in fact my first real wedding, and yes, I want something a bit more than a courthouse ceremony.
We have a combined family of 4 kids and of course, cost and budget are important. I have a huge family as well. We are planning a Nov 14th fall wedding on the Suwannee River (my parents’ front yard overlooks the water and is beautiful).
I do not want a huge wedding with a strapless princess dress (which would have been great when I was a size 2 and 21 years old). But 3 kids later, it just seems like I am pretending to be younger than I am.
Anyone out there have any suggestions regarding simple, elegant gowns and wedding ideas?

I was tested this week. I’m hanging in there, but it’s been a rough go.
My job situation has devolved into a very unfair and uncomfortable situation, which put a major strain on my emotions and sapped my energy last weekend. Basically, they hired me on for a low-skill and equally low-pay job, and immediately shepherded me into a higher skill position at the same hourly rate. It feels a lot like a bait and switch. I stood up for myself, but there’s not much I can do. I can’t quit, as I can’t afford it. It’s a catch 22.
The moment things got stressful, I immediately started to feel the old patterns creep in. I spent 2 nights overeating. It started out innocently - a little sugary cereal here, a low-fat brownie there, but it quickly spiraled into an unhealthy, frantic, “binge-y” feeling that I know all too well.
The timing corresponded with Tiger being out of town, so I had a 4-day lag between workouts. I should have picked myself up and Shredded or something, but instead I stewed in my juices, ate, and felt lazy, helpless and frustrated.
The good news is, this time I realized early on how destructive it was. How it wasn’t comforting or cozy. Not even a little. It made me feel bloated and uncomfortable, and embarrassed and tired - but it also strengthened my resolve to fight.

Mr. Taffy and I had really been looking forward to our tasting. Our caterers only hold one tasting per year! The tasting date was cutting it quite close to the day we needed to give our entree options for our invitation reply card, so we were hoping to make a final decision at the tasting, or directly afterward. After all, we had been combing over the menu for months, crunching numbers and discussing the different entree choices! We had a menu in our minds, but wanted to try everything to make sure it was as tasty as it sounded.
I wish I could say that it was that easy, but this tasting was full of surprises, and quite frankly, some disappointments.
At least we had another couple to cope with! Jessie516 and her fiance, who are getting married the same month as we are, were also at the tasting.

The four of us have been really sick with the sinus infection / bronchitis plague going around Ann Arbor, and joked about how much we would actually taste due to our symptoms. ![]()

Greetings, hive!

I’m elated to join Weddingbee as Miss Bruschetta! For the past year, I’ve been an actively-buzzing member of this community, following each bee as she plans, marries and recaps. Truthfully, I was on-again, off-again about applying, and even started my blog intending to make it food focused. When I struggled to find the time to cook to my heart’s content, though, wedding plans found their way into my posts, and soon, I was hooked. I’m so excited to follow in the bee-prints of the other Philly blogger brides, and hope to show how much (and what in particular) I love about the City of Brotherly Love.

As wedding shoes?
Well, why not? Cute and comfy are a lot of brides’ requirements when it comes to bridal shoes.

Okay, so maybe those are comfy, but as much as I love my crocs, those aren’t exactly bridal.
When we first started our planning, I was determined to wear cute and comfortable shoes.
