Mr. Sushi and I are both haolepinos (half Filipino, half Caucasian) and hope to be able to somehow incorporate our cultures at our destination wedding in Hawaii. All while planning from the sweetest place in earth, Hershey!
In only a few hours we will be legally bonded together… forever. I can’t believe that after ALL our ups and downs over the last 3 and a half years, life has brought us to this path. I love it. I love you. And I’m excited to start a new chapter in my life, with you in it. I know that with everything we’ve been through, it’s only made us and our relationship stronger. I can’t imagine anything that could break us.
I honestly can’t wait to get this wedding part over, so we can start the marriage part and the family part. In retrospect, it’s really true what they say: the wedding is one day, and the marriage is forever. And while I will definitely enjoy this one day, I can’t wait for forever to start.
Mwah!

While we were at David’s Bridal looking for my dress, we had some extra time to look at some bridesmaids dresses. Dani and Gaby (my sisters) found one that I think might have potential, and it comes in colors very close to our original color scheme.
Here are the dresses from the website. The purple one is a much prettier color in person (more plum, less royal purple).
Here are the dresses on my sisters. Keep in mind Gaby’s dress is about 5 sizes too big. I think it looks better with the bows tied in the back rather than on the side. Read more…

I went to school to study Magazine Journalism, ended up with a second major in Japanese language, and now work at a company that makes software for libraries. I love writing, computers, photography, and the great outdoors. I spend most of my time playing Guitar Hero and Rock Band or geeking out online with Mr. Cherry Pie. I'm happiest when I'm on the road, especially traveling abroad, or just nesting quietly at home with my sweetie, who is a fabulous cook and bakes a delicious rendition of a certain cherry-filled dessert!
As everyone filled their plates and found their tables, the rain outside our reception tent continued to fall. Warm and dry as we were, it didn’t dampen our spirits one bit, although we did worry what it meant for after-dinner dancing.
After everyone was seated, Mr. Cherry Pie stood and called attention to the front of the room, welcoming our friends and family with a brief speech of appreciation.

I love my job most of the time because I get to travel and work with brilliant people who are trying to prevent Malaria. I love DIY projects of all sorts, cooking, and watching sports. I'd wear anything at Anthropologie and could spend all day on Etsy. I love to travel but shouldn't because I always get myself into unbelievable situations!
So I found out a few days ago that I’m probably going to go a on a few work trips in the next few months, which is always exciting. Unfortunately for me, when this happens, I don’t really get more than 10 days notice before I go, and I usually have plans already in place and have to cancel. With the wedding next year, and several weddings we have to attend already scheduled, I know I need to get as much planning done now as I can. This week I’ve been obsessed with table settings/scapes.
I found some really cute yellowish bulb vases from West Elm on sale, smoky cool glasses, and fun flat stem vases from CB2. My idea is to do table runners with fun fabrics that have black, grey, and yellow in them, and then put a few of the vases on top. I’ve had to add black to the color palette because it’s impossible to avoid.
Looks at the fun fabrics I bought for table runners!

We’ve poured ourselves into planning a wedding that reflects our personal style - modern and high contrast with a vintage twist. Blogging keeps me creative, baking keeps me happy, and grande nonfat no foam sugar free vanilla lattes keep me sane.
Mr. S and I have done a lot of thinking about groomsmen’s gifts, but not any buying! We’ve gone from Chucks, to ties, to beer and highball glasses. We’re obviously all over the place!
Fortunately, shopping for the ladies is so much easier. I have all of the pieces in place and have managed to keep the price per bridesmaid pretty reasonable. One thing I wanted to gift each of them was a clutch. However, any clutch I found, multiplied by 5, just didn’t seem to fit into the budget. So… I decided that it was much more meaningful for me to make them something that was cute and fun.
I searched Etsy up and down until I came across Keykalou’s shop and her simple Envelope Clutch pattern. For only $8.00 I was able to purchase a pattern for an envelope clutch that I could make in two different sizes.
Congratulations to MissEdamame, the winner of the hairpin, and lenamarie, the winner of the custom necklace!

Only not as..."talented". More realistically, I'm a foodie who can't bake; a dancer and dilettente; an art collector with a penchant for the whimsical and subversive. I live in the city and adore the country, but not much in between. I like smart design, great craftmanship and good value. Most of all, I love the new vintage aesthetic: classic, sweet, delicate, bespoke. If I had to do it all over again, I'd go for a culinary arts degree rather than a PhD; but wouldn't trade Mr. P for the world.
It’s not all politics and prose. Dare I say that Washington DC has character and poetry as well? There’s a lot to see and do here in our nation’s capital. Built on a very easy to navigate grid system, it’s superbly human scale–no building (other than the Washington Monument) is above seven stories. It’s an incredibly walkable and beautiful city and its distinct neighborhoods yield plenty of personality. The architecture, history, and power here are incomparable. But if it’s the softer side of life you seek to explore, there’s a wonderful emerging food culture, great art, and plenty of little romantic spots! Read more…

Luckily, I'm 90% resourceful, creative optimist (and kooky, neurotic practicalist-if-that's-a-word for the other ten). Other than writing about our week-long celebration of family, friends, laughter and love, I adore books, shoes and… you guessed it… long walks on the beach.
Still laughing after our great group shots, Mr Breezy and I hustled out of the lobby to catch some photos on the beach while there was still sun. Since our ceremony started a half hour late due to the power failure at the resort, and because we dawdled drinking champagne in the gazebo afterwards, we were really in a rush!
My MOH Pepperpot and cousin K barely managed to get some food in me before I was whisked away.

I had a bad experience with dress shopping last week, where I was told that my $1,000 budget was causing the lady to struggle to find dresses for me to try on. She also said that since it was a “boutique”, girls with budgets typically don’t come into the store. When Dona asked if they had any dresses without beading, the lady told her that she did, but that those dresses were made of fine fabrics and were not within my budget. So basically, it was a disaster. I did find one dress I sort of liked, but I really don’t think I’m going to go back there. If they treated me that badly before they had my money, imagine how they will treat me after they have my money! Here’s the dress I found at that store.
So my mom and future mother in law, as well as my sisters, were in town one weekend to help me look for a wedding dress.

Our wedding invitations arrived just short of two weeks ago. Why am I just telling you about them now? Because I am crazy and a masochist.
I ordered these lovely invitations from Laura Hooper. Laura designed our STDs and I was extremely happy with them. I loved her invitation line, but sadly it was out of my budget (sigh–how I love letterpress). But Laura worked with us to design an invitation suite that we could squeeze into my budget. Read more…
