Reader SpecialK is selling 10 crystal candelabras. They are 100% hand-blown Murano Venetian style crystal candelabras. Each have 6 silver cups to hold 6 taper candles - 5 arms and 1 center cup. They stand 33 inches tall. The bases are pre-wired for electricity, and she has the electric and fixings to wire the arms for lightbulbs. They are all fully assembled and ready to go, and can be picked up on Long Island at your convenience. She is asking for $150/each - she would prefer to sell all 10 to one person, but is open to other arrangements.

Mr. Spring Roll and I are one step away from officially becoming husband and wife. Last week we made the trip to the Clerk of the Circuit Court, and walked out with our license to marry.
I was, and still am, surprised at how easy it is to get a marriage license.

Because of Mr. K’s school and Army obligations, he can only take one week off for our wedding. And because we wanted to be able to spend the wedding week enjoying the Cayman Islands with our friends and family, we planned the wedding for the last few days of his break. The only problem is that this doesn’t leave us room for a honeymoon! Mr. K and I will have a grand total of two days and two nights alone together before we go back to the real world. In order to get the most out of this time, we are staying in the Cayman Islands and have dubbed our little vacation our “Minimoon”.

Napa–a perfect minimoon destination for Californians!
I just realized that while I have hinted at a few of our vendors, I have yet to properly introduce them.
First up, a vendor that I was destined to book: Huckleberry Karen Designs.
Why was this my destiny? These are little known Weddingbee facts, but my name is Karen, and my dog’s name is Huckleberry!! Seriously, no joke!! Everyone I’ve told has laughed at me about this one!
I have to admit, I didn’t really even look into any other florist, but why would I, with all of this ridiculously fabulous floral porn…
I love these feathers:

So I’ve been searching for the perfect yellow shoe to go with my dress. Unfortunately, nothing in my price range comes in my size or is something I can walk in. All the cute shoes in yellow have 4-inch heels. I tried walking in them, and it’s just not possible. 3 inches is as high as I can go. I had just about given up when I found these saviors from J.Crew. The yellow is soooo perfect! I think Miss Peep Toe has the same pair in green.

As Mr. Cherry Pie and I finished up our portraits together, our guests were invited from the cocktail area to the reception tent by the ringing of a dinner bell.
We intended our reception to be rustic, casual, and comfortable, like sitting down to dinner with family. For me, the pièce de résistance of our wedding day will always be the ceremony, but I absolutely loved how our reception turned out. There were no fancy linens, lighting, music, slide shows, or sound systems… just tables enough to seat ninety, a few hand-designed details, and a buffet of astounding regional food and drink. It was perfect, despite the drenching downpour that started as soon as dinner began…

One of the things I’ve been working on is researching florists for the wedding. I’m not very knowledgeable when it comes to flowers, so I’ve been slowly learning and researching more. Yesterday I was reading Weddingbee PRO and came across this great post by Nancy from Nancy Liu Chin Designs. She broke down all the different components of flowers that you need and how to best research what you’re looking for. She also talks about how to approach florists.

Here’s a blurb from the post:

In the interest of this being a tourist-friendly post, I’m compiling the last couple days of our trip in one post, since technically you can do almost all of this in one day. Since the Bee Extravaganza was on Saturday, it took up a major portion of our Saturday afternoon/night, while my hangover took over a major portion of our Sunday morning. So, you can see how if you eliminated the Bee party factor, how our Saturday and Sunday could actually be one normal day for a tourist!
On Saturday, Mr. Penguin and I got up early and headed Downtown. We saw the Statue of Liberty, the Brooklyn Bridge, Wall Street, Ground Zero, and explored the area. It was very very cold and windy that morning so we opted out of walking across the Brooklyn Bridge, but we hear that it is a great experience and we are sad to have missed it. I enjoyed seeing the Financial District far more than I expected. It’s set up nicely for tourists, with historical plaques and signs everywhere, so it’s an easy place to navigate. It was great to do this on a Saturday, a day when no one was working. I don’t really love it when tourists ask me for directions when I’m focused on my work day, so I didn’t want to be in the way of the New Yorkers downtown on a weekday. Going on the weekend gave us an opportunity to linger, take pictures, and stroll at a leisurely pace.
DAY 3
Of course, we hear from our grandmothers and mothers that we need something OLD, something NEW, something BORROWED, and something BLUE. I was thinking this would be pretty simple, because I have my great-grandmother’s rosary as my OLD, my dress as my NEW, and my jewelry (hopefully) will be BORROWED, but I just couldn’t think of a visible blue. I wanted it to be something visible, so that my family members could say, “Ah, there’s her blue.” I had thought about dyeing my crinoline, a la Avocado’s post, but I was afraid of messing up an expensive crinoline! So, I thought about my garter instead. I originally wanted an LSU garter, since that’s my and Mr. BF’s alma mater. I went online, and nothing was grabbing my attention. I’m really not much of a lace fan, so I knew I’d have trouble with lacy garters.
Out of boredom, I logged onto Etsy and found Garter Lady. She has CUTE garters at really reasonable prices! Check out some of what she has!
I immediately thought of Mrs. Sea Breeze with her purple wedding day accessories when I saw this one!

Oh, candy buffet - how often I think about you! Stressing about the containers and decor on the table is one thing, but what about the sweet stuff? Since we’re sticking with black, white, and green on the table, there will probably be a decent amount of black candy. Which, of course, tends to be licorice-flavored… not a favorite of many people, including this bride.
To top it all off, candy, of course, is expensive! Candy Warehouse has a wide variety of bulk candy that you can sort through by color, and their shipping rates seem to be pretty reasonable. I’ve also found a few things on Metro Candy & Nut, who advertises 10% off your first order. Their selection isn’t the best, but I’m always a sucker for a deal.

Today’s wiki is Jewelry Appraisal. Check it out, as this wiki needs tons and tons of love! Jewelry appraisal is somewhat of a mystery to me. Mr. Penguin bought my ring on his own, and (shame on us) we haven’t gotten it insured! I’ve been really paranoid about it lately, and decided to stop wearing my engagement ring until we insure it. Better safe than sorry, right? So, before we get my ring insured, we’ve got to learn about the ins and outs of jewelry appraisal, and I was hoping that the hive could help me out!
Where do you go to get your jewelry appraised? How can you tell if an appraiser is reputable and legitimate? Do you need to go to several appraisal outfits to double check the appraised value of your jewelry? Where can you go online to get more information about jewelry appraisal? Share your tips, sources, and experiences with jewelry appraisal in the wiki:
If you’re unsure how you can contribute to the wiki, take a peek at this wiki article on how to edit a wiki. Check it out and share your expertise! Or, if you’re shy, just leave your tips in the comments, and we can add them to the wiki for you!
Well… to me at least. Not so much to the rest of my family. You see, I was raised Catholic. My grandparents, as well as some of my extended family, are very much practicing Catholics. In the past several years I’ve really drifted away from the Church and I don’t really know how to spiritually “classify” myself now. I’ve always dreamt of being married outside, as nothing would make me happier than to marry Mr. D with sunshine on my shoulders, surrounded by God’s creations.
The only problem with out lovely outdoor ceremony? It isn’t exactly valid in the eyes of the Catholic Church. My grandparents are going to figure out it isn’t a Catholic ceremony, because not only is it outside, but we also have a female officiant. I thought about finding a Catholic priest to perform the ceremony outside, but it still wouldn’t be recognized in the Catholic Church and it wouldn’t be considered Catholic by my extended family, either.
My mother, sister, and all of my aunts on my mother’s side have been married in the Catholic church. One of my aunts was divorced before I was born and remarried several years ago, but not in the Catholic church. She worked hard to have her first marriage annulled so that she could still remarry within the Catholic church. So, you can see the importance that my extended family puts on being married in the Catholic church.

(source)It’s March! For most people, this is a good thing. It means that the long winter is almost over (although definitely not here in Boston!) and spring is just around the corner. The days are getting longer, so walking out of work at 5PM just isn’t as depressing as it used to be. And it also means that Opening Day is that much closer… and that’s a BIG deal over here.
For others, March is one of the busiest months of the year. Accountants like Papa Latte are in the middle of tax season, and are working hard for long hours. And college admissions officers like myself are buried in applications from high school students around the world.
Working in a career or an office where a “busy season” exists develops a special sense of community and camaraderie amongst the employees.
