At the welcome dinner tonight, I opened up my fortune cookie, and it said:
That’s right, folks. After 15 years of dating, the Hot Cocoas are getting hitched!
Thank you to the whole Weddingbee community for putting up with my shenanigans, laughing at my bad jokes, and being so supportive, generous, and kind during our wedding planning process. I am one very lucky bride.
I’ll be back soon with the recaps from our Chewish Wedding Spectacular.
Toodles,
Miss Hot Cocoa
A few weeks ago, I ran across a photograph by Sarah K. Chen on An Atlanta Bride’s Blog.

So, those bags are from Target. And while we haven’t picked out gifts for our groomsmen yet, I was in love with those bags. They’re perfect for out of town bags, right?
I immediately ran to Target to find them, as they were on clearance.
Target was out of them! I didn’t think much of it, but Mr. CC was in love with them. I started brainstorming ways to recreate them. I purchased a couple kraft paper bags and designed a graphic. Then I tried to shove those bags through my printer.

Recently Mr. Mascara and I went to Jared to get my engagement ring fixed. We had taken it to a different Jared location shortly after he proposed in order to get the prongs smoothed a little (they were a bit sharp and I kept scratching myself with my ring). The jeweler was apparently not the best, and he pretty much destroyed the head. When we brought it in (to a different store) and showed the jeweler who sold it to Mr. M, they actually had to replace the head because it was beyond repair. So that was good for me, but probably not so good for the jeweler that messed it up! I am so happy they replaced it though, and my ring looks perfect again.
While we were there, we decided to look at wedding bands. Mr. M chose a very simple white gold band, which was brushed in the middle and smooth along the edges.

I had no clue what I wanted to get, but I told the lady that I was very open to wearing my wedding band on my right hand if I couldn’t find something to go with my engagement ring.

A couple weeks ago, Mr. Peep and I made the trek down to my brother’s house for a double family shower; for Mr. Peep and I, and also to introduce Baby Henry to the extended family. I am sure you can guess who stole the show!
My brother lives just North of LA, so we made it a family weekend. My whole family rarely gets together. Last time it was for our engagement party in August. Before that, I couldn’t really tell you when we last got together, so it was a treat to spend the weekend with the littlest members of our bridal party. Here they all are waiting to go to the party:

I just discovered a really cool image search engine called TinEye. Here’s a description of the site:
TinEye is a reverse image search engine. You can submit an image to TinEye to find out where it came from, how it is being used, if modified versions of the image exist, or to find higher resolution versions. TinEye is the first image search engine on the web to use image identification technology rather than keywords, metadata or watermarks.
It doesn’t have a huge database yet, but it’s great for searching for things like wedding dresses. If you have the following picture of a wedding dress and don’t know the designer, upload the image or put in the url.

When I first got engaged, I had no idea that there were so many design decisions that went into a wedding. I had only been to about three weddings, and I never noticed what sort of details and decor went into that wedding to make it unique or special. But then… I started surfing. Yep, that’s right. Surfin’ the ’net. More like the black hole; once you start with one wedding blog, you get sucked in. Soon you’re clicking on links to different design blogs, which lead to more links, which leads to complete design overload.

There is so much inspiration out there, it’s overwhelming. Do I want to go modern (wheat grass in wooden boxes with Gerber Daisies “growing” out of them), romantic (lush hydrangea-and-rose bouquets teeming over vintage coffee cans), or will it be more whimsical (birch branches with birds hanging from them)? The options are endless, and it can make you more confused that ever.
So, here’s my guide to the ten blogs that make me swoon in my desk chair (when I should be working).
I can finally cross one item off my never-ending list of things I haven’t done yet…

Fabulous photographer… CHECK!
I’ve been very excited to talk about this for a while, but I didn’t want to jinx anything. Now that I have sent our deposit in and secured our date, I am proud to present our photographer, Erica Lyn. We are ecstatic to have her photographing our event. She came with excellent referrals from previous clients and was… wait for it… affordable! (In other words, I will NOT have to sell my first born child to be able to have amazing wedding photos.)

Attention Philly-area hive members! Mark your calendar for Saturday, April 18, and join me, Mrs. Candy Corn, Mrs. Cupcake and Mrs. Sushi for lunch at 333 Belrose in Radnor, PA.
Comment below if you’re planning on joining us; we’ll post a reminder closer to the meet up to get an approximate count!
Since Mrs. Pineapple covered some great things to do in some of the rural areas outside of Steel City, I’ll try to give you a virtual tour of some hot spots in and around the city itself.
I currently don’t live in Pittsburgh proper, but spent four years living downtown during my college days and have been working in the City of Bridges (there are 446 crossing our three rivers) for the last six years. Long gone are the days of steel mills running the region’s economy and the dirty image the city is still trying to shake. Pittsburghers take pride in being the big city with a small-town feel and hometown pride is common among residents in the region. We even have our own language, n’at.
First up, a trip to Pittsburgh cannot be complete without taking in some type of professional sporting event or activity. After all, it is the City of Champions! If you’re looking for something to do in the spring through early fall, check out the Pirates at PNC Park.
OK, not rolling, but we’ve had our first 2 RSVPs. Granted, we knew that these two people would be attending the wedding, but it’s still exciting!
We’ve gotten some amazing feedback on our 50 things poster, and the invitation poster itself. We really liked them both, but weren’t sure that others would see it our way. A few people even said they are going to frame the invitation!
The other bit of feedback we’ve been getting is that people liked that we’re asking for RSVPs via phone and/or email. We wanted to do response cards, but we weren’t sure how to get them into the tube without them being super bent. Also, with postage going up in May, we didn’t want our guests to have to supplement postage we placed on the return envelopes.
Not doing response cards was a hard decision for us.

Meet the Lady Piglets … handsome bunch, don’t cha think? While all of the groomsmen are geographically scattered, the majority of my ladies (minus Canada) are still at our home base. When deciding on bridal attire, I loved the idea of different dress styles for each girl, in the same color, with flowy material. David’s Bridal seemed like the logical choice with the plethora of style options in their collection. AND, I fell in love with one dress from the get go for my MOH, otherwise known as Sister Pig.
Meet Sissy, my best friend (unfortunately she refuses to reciprocate this title for me), confidant, and our model for this session.

Dress #1. It’s fun, flirty, forgiving, and simply fabulous! Since the back wall is painted yellow, the color is a bit skewed. So, I posted the model picture alongside sis. You’re welcome Sissy!

Tomorrow my besties are going to descend upon the city for a night of decadence and debauchery — my bachelorette party! I don’t have all of the details on what is in store for us, but I do have an awesome outfit planned, and really, what more does a girl need?
My mother and I hit Neiman’s last weekend during our shopping marathon and I scored this adorable number (which is in MAJOR need of a good steaming!):
