Hi Hive!
I know I’ve been MIA lately, but with only a week until my wedding, there is so much I want to share with you!
As you can imagine, the last few weeks before the wedding are filled with last-minute details and projects. And I had the perfect opportunity to tackle these tasks! My law school spring break was three weeks before the wedding–an entire week with no school, and plenty of time to tie up all those loose ends! Unfortunately for me, my body didn’t cooperate with my plan. A week before spring break I came down with a nasty cold. A cold that persisted and developed into bronchitis–keeping me bedridden during spring break. When I first got sick, a terrifying thought ran through my head: What if I got sick on my wedding day? I couldn’t even bear the thought, telling myself that I am sick now and getting it over with, so I won’t be sick on the wedding day!
And now, three weeks later, I am sicker than ever.

This past weekend—right before my hair and makeup trial—I got a chance to meet up with our fabulous florist, Huckleberry Karen Designs, at the hotel. I hadn’t met with her since May, but our meeting reconfirmed that she’s the best!! And now I am doubly excited to see our flowers on the big day.
When we first met, I didn’t have strong thoughts on what colors the bouquets should be. All I knew was that I wanted dahlias for the personal flowers and wheat grass for the centerpieces.
When we first sat down she promptly told me that she’s already seeing dahlias at the market. AWESOME!! I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I heart dahlias. In fact, we kinda picked our date so there was a glimmer of hope that we’d have dahlias on the big day. We decided that my bouquet would be more of a soft pink with whites. Something like these:
I’m attending a special taping of the Martha Stewart show next week, and I need to bring a diy craft with me. I wanted to make something with customized magnets because they’re cute and functional, but didn’t have the time. So Mrs. Green Tea came to the rescue and graciously offered to make me some of her fantastic bee magnets. This package arrived from her today, and it included a couple of surprises!

Check out these dahlia napkin rings. We’re probably going to use white linen napkins, rather than try to find a color that goes with our scheme. White is just easier and cheaper. I was thinking of placing a real dahlia on each place setting to dress it up a bit, but these tissue flowers could work too. Maybe I can recruit some helpers for this project, as my list of projects keeps growing and growing. There’s a how-to from Martha for this project, as well.

Have you incorporated faux florals in your decor?
[Note: this is from a few weeks ago. I did not lose my sh!t twice in two days, though I seem to be careening crazily in that direction.]
I had one of those moments today, moments when you step back from yourself in stunned surprise at the path of your thoughts. I was standing in front of a smorgasbord of makeup options, trying to decide if I needed a ten-palette eyeshadow or if three was enough, thinking that maybe I should just give in and order that “bridal palette” I saw advertised in a magazine.
What is it about a wedding that suckers you into doing (and thinking!) things that are totally out of character? Don’t get me wrong, I once owned 90% of the eyeshadow colors sold by Aveda. I like pretty fancy shimmery pretties just as much as the next girl. But since those days, I’ve found that I’m just as happy with drugstore products when I bother to wear them. Case in point: I stopped at Walgreens on the way to our engagement photo shoot and grabbed the first dark brown eyeshadow palette that was on sale, and I was quite happy with it.
For me, the sucker factor is that it’s a special day.

Well, folks, this is it… the last photo recap of our wedding. Next, I’ll share with you our budget breakdown, and then it’s on to our Zihuatanejo honeymoon. After that, who knows!
My first detail recap showed you the people and accessories that gave our celebration special warmth and feeling.
Today’s post focuses on some of the details that made our wedding unique: DIY projects, decorations, food and beverage, transportation, et cetera. I’ve picked lots of colorful photos to share each detail with you and, wherever possible, linked you to my past posts with more information or other external resources. Enjoy!
Having first selected our reception venue, we set out to discover our dream caterer. From the beginning, Mr. Bruschetta and I had specific ideas about our wedding cuisine:
When we began our planning in early 2008, six caterers were approved to work in our reception space. After reaching out to each, we were able to (quite easily!) whittle down our list.
Two never returned our calls. Three had trouble matching our budget and understanding our desires. (During a consultation at one of the “custom” caterers, we were handed a menu of options, and told to pick our dinner right off the list of dishes the kitchen had crafted in the past. Excuse me, what?) And one served food at an open house Mr. Bruschetta and I attended that gave us both the worst case of food poisoning we’ve ever had!

I presented the Glossy ladies with their dress options, and although they haven’t tried any of them on yet, they all preliminarily selected the same dress. Go figure.
My fabulous ladies will by rocking the “Lyndsey” in Classic Navy by J.Crew. They loved the deep V in the back.

And they were all VERY excited about getting to wear yellow shoes…
Did you envision your bridesmaids all wearing different dresses, only to find that they all liked the same one?
Just a reminder, the Seattle bees will be swarming around B & O Espresso this Sunday, March 29th at 4 PM. We hope to see you there!
Thanks to our AWESOME hive hostess doctorgirl for putting this together!
I find it rude when a cashier doesn’t greet me as I enter their checkout lane. (At Walmart, the credit card pin pad asks you if your cashier was friendly today and I’ve been guilty of checking “no” when deserved.) I’m a no-pickle-on-a-cheeseburger person, and I always request it, so I really dislike getting attitude from a fast food clerk when I bring my pickle-clad burger to the front with hopes of correcting my order. With the way our economy is heading, I really don’t understand why more employers don’t stress the importance of customer service to their employees. My money is good at lots of stores, so please, earn my business by being friendly, courteous, and concerned if I have an issue.
That said, shopping for a bustier to support the girls on the wedding day brought a surprisingly awesome customer service experience at a major department store.
Before I tell you the good, let me tell you the bad. I had my first gown fitting over the weekend, so a few weeks before, I knew I needed to purchase the appropriate undergarments to go with my dress. I needed a strapless, nude, or ivory long-line bra, so I set out to what I thought would be the best place to find one—a bridal store. I’m not going to name names, but this was a bridal chain store for which I’ve read positive reviews for their bra offerings.
When I got to the store, I told them what size bra I normally wear, but told them I was unsure about size since I heard the long-line bras fit differently. The sales attendant handed me two sizes and showed me a dressing room. She said to holler if I needed help and then walked away. Well, I’m not Gumby, nor am I as flexible as an Olympic gymnast, so putting on a long-line bra by myself was near impossible.

while back, I posted about my disappointment with the wedding band our jeweler created. I sent it back and ordered a different (less intricate) one. And after almost a month of back and forth emails and waiting, I got the new one in the mail tonight! It’s a prong-set eternity band. The previous one was more antique-y looking with bead-set milgraining and engraving on the side. This one is a lot simpler, and less vintage looking–and can’t be messed up by the jeweler!
Once Mom Taffy had the spring theme in her head, her plans really started to blossom! In this post I will share some of the fun, colorful details from our shower.
First up - check out these adorable cupcake holders that we found! I love the vintage, graphic look of the tulip inspired print and the scalloped edges.

Although we did have cupcakes at the shower, my mom used the cupcake holders above to hold M&Ms and Skittles on the tables for our guests - a colorful tribute to my sweet tooth!
