Let me begin by clarifying: This post is in no way reflective of the members of my bridal party. I love these girls, and am so happy to have them actively involved in my wedding.
So why the melodramatic post title? Allow me to explain.
Recently, I’ve reconnected with several friends from high school. We lost touch during college, but for the past few months, have easily fallen back into a comfortable pattern. It’s like our friendship never lapsed, and we have a great time getting together — pretty frequently — for girls’ night. Every few Thursdays, it’s dinner out or a night of bowling (or, in my case, knocking down some pins, and rolling way too many gutter balls).
And I’m feeling like a pinhead.

My wedding shoes are a big deal for me. I have a weakness for shoes in general, and love all shapes and sizes. I decided early on that I wasn’t going to go with a traditional white shoe, and I have found a few contenders for THE all-important wedding shoe. (All flat of course, since Mr. Gloss is shorter than me).
Option #1: the RAS Satin Opera Skimmer in Mustard - for an amazing sale price of $71.39 (marked down from $215). I HAVE to buy them right?
Option #2: DIY Louboutin - I have always lusted after the perfectly impractical (and non-budget friendly) feathered Louboutin.

If you think back to last week and my post about my health and weight (take a quick glance to refresh your memory), you’ll remember that I’m trying to get back to my DC healthy lifestyle.
My goals were:
How’d I do?
Hiya hive!
I’ve been wrestling with this issue for a while and I thought I’d throw it out to you all (since you’re so good!).
My FH has some health conditions that are starting to cost us a great deal of $. He is a student and has no health insurance. When we first got engaged he insisted that we wait a full year to get married so as not to offend his best man who was engaged and getting married in June {le sigh}. At the time I threw a fit, touting all the benefits of getting married ASAP, but he ultimately won the battle. Now with the onset of doctor and hospital bills, plus the expense of prescription drugs, marriage, and being added to my excellent health insurance, getting married seems like an amazing option for our little family, according to my FI.
Problem is, I just can’t pull the trigger. We have a beautiful, romantic soiree in August all planned, and I feel like we’d be cheating ourselves and everyone else if we got married, say, tomorrow at the courthouse. We wouldn’t tell anyone, just HR and the state of VA, but I still have these overwhelming pangs of guilt about potentially going through with it.
Am I being crazy? Or should we just do it?

High heels on, hair in place, and umbrellas in hand, it was time to leave for the church. Our photographer had gone on ahead of us, so we had a moment to breathe.
Breathe in, breathe out.
Once that single moment was over, all hell broke loose as people scrambled to find their belongings and rides to the little chapel. My bridesmaids and I, of course, were traveling together in a stretch S.U.V. limo. Not so very vintage, but my hoop skirts necessitated something that could accommodate my dress without squashing it a la Princess Diana in her wedding day carriage. So, a S.U.V. it was, and it had been lovingly decorated by my mother for the occasion. Unfortunately, we all clambered into the vehicle so quickly that no one noticed the decorations, and no one thought to take any pictures of it. Whoops! Sorry, mom!
Meanwhile, Mr. Shortcake and his motley crew had arrived at St. George’s Parish, and were nervously awaiting our arrival.

I can hardly believe it! After 17 months of engagement, dreaming, planning and scheming, we are officially at 2 months to go!

I can’t help but feel a bit overwhelmed by all the details, vendors, et cetera that I have to keep straight somehow! I guess it’s time to take an inventory of our progress and see what’s still missing.
Tomorrow night I head off to Chicago for a whirlwind weekend of wedding goodness. MaPo is heading up my bachelorette party along with sister (and MOH) Dawn, and I can’t wait to see what they have in store.

Reader Jenn_Texas is selling 220 brown organza chair sashes. They were used once during her ceremony. She’s asking for $1 each, or $200 for the lot.

Now, you all know that I think you’re fabulous, you who have given me inspiration, support, friendship, and the knowledge that I am not alone in my Crazy—wedding-related, or otherwise. But I am finding myself losing my sh!t way too often lately, and with two months to go, my guy staged a bit of an intervention.
Background: It’s Wedding Wednesday, and we’ve just finished going through a checklist of “stuff”. Invites, check. Guest list, check. RSVP options, check. I ask if he’s thought about first dance songs, and off we go down the YouTube rabbit hole. 90 minutes later, we have a long list of fun and happy songs for our playlist… and two romantic songs, one of which is totally cheesy.

We’re in bed, in the dark, and I’m sniffling because we’re not romantic, I know, but I thought that for this one day, at least… and on and on. He’s great, he really is, and the bright side to these “sessions” is that I’m reminded how supportive and sweet he is. And also that he’ll only be sweet and supportive for so long before he gets annoyed and basically asks me to buck up.
[sh!t-losing]
And then, as kindly as he can manage, he suggests that blogs are bad. That I am getting caught up in exactly the kind of stuff I used to scoff at, and that it’s becoming a detriment to our (somewhat precarious*) happiness. This isn’t the first time he’s said it, but it is the first time I’ve really heard him. I agree to think about it.

… with our photographer. I’ve actually blogged about him before, but didn’t mention that he was our photographer. Let me introduce you to Nashville-based Tec Petaja. Here’s a selection of photographs by the very talented young man (who also just got married and is currently on the cover of Southern Weddings with his beautiful wife, Chelsea).
There were several requests for a tutorial on how I created our save the date cards. Since there are quite a few steps, I’ll break up the instructions into two posts. First up, the envelopes!
What you’ll need:

I was browsing all the options for the wiki of the day, and the Dessert Reception wiki really piqued my interest! Mr. Penguin and I have never attended a dessert reception, but the idea sounds lovely! When I close my eyes, I imagine huge colorful displays of cakes and desserts, and maybe even a big candy buffet in coordinating wedding colors! There are so many great ideas out there for desert receptions, but where to begin? Hopefully, at the weddingbee wiki!
Some of the trickiest parts of planning a dessert reception are the wording of the invitations, and the appropriate time and place for one. If you’ve hosted a dessert reception, we’d love for you to share with us your invitation wording! In addition, what kinds of desserts can you serve? What are some fun drinks and treats to complement the desserts? What is an appropriate venue for a dessert reception? Share your ideas with us in the dessert reception wiki:
If you’re unsure how you can contribute to the wiki, take a peek at this wiki article on how to edit a wiki. Check it out and share your expertise! Or, if you’re shy, just leave your tips in the comments, and we can add them to the wiki for you!
Congratulations to the winner, Jennybryde!

ooking back, I realize I didn’t make it easy on Mr. Bruschetta. In the months leading up to the proposal, I was overconfident to the point of cockiness, telling him I’d be able to sense the big moment before it happened. My mister, however, still wanted to surprise me, so he set to work on a plan.
As I mentioned in a previous post, my senior prom was our first date.

Unbeknownst to me, Mr. Bruschetta wanted to find a way to get into the ballroom where we laughed, danced, and shared our first kiss, to pop the question. And I unwittingly gave it to him.

So ladies, I am well aware that I have never shown you my bling. This stems from the fact that I could not for the life of me take a pic without it being crazy blurry. Thanks to the tips from Anne Ruthmann at Weddingbee PRO, I was finally able to capture her in all her glory. (Well some of her, anyway…)
