Mrs. Perfume's Picture
Mrs. Perfume, DC Age and Occupation: 36, Consultant (and Part-Time Professor) Fiance's Age and Occupation: 41, Consultant Engagement Date: May 13, 2008 Wedding Date: May, 2009 Venue: The Homestead, Hot Springs, Virginia About Me: I'd like to think that I'm a modern day Little Edie Beale. Only not as..."talented". More realistically, I'm a foodie who can't bake; a dancer and dilettente; an art collector with a penchant for the whimsical and subversive. I live in the city and adore the country, but not much in between. I like smart design, great craftmanship and good value. Most of all, I love the new vintage aesthetic: classic, sweet, delicate, bespoke. If I had to do it all over again, I'd go for a culinary arts degree rather than a PhD; but wouldn't trade Mr. P for the world.
About Mrs. Perfume

On the to-do list (which Mr. P is always monitoring) was to get attendants their accessories. Last night we stopped in to Macy’s on our way home from work and got a good deal on some ties for the guys. We weren’t too picky. Just something in pale gold or Champagne. And we found them–on sale even–for $25 each. Solid.

And last night I made an offer on eBay for three of these brooches for the BMs dresses, and won.

$18 each. Bargainista!

I went ahead and made another offer on three pairs of these earrings at $9 each to the same seller. They countered with $15. Although that’s a decent price, I’m going to go ahead and push my luck by offering $12 each*. I’m bored and cheap, clearly.

With all the savings, I bought myself a little makeup treat (which I rarely ever do). I have to admit that I love Benefit’s kitschy packaging as much as the products themselves.

Some stuff to paint my face: primer and blusher.

*I ended up getting them for $12 each!

Are you choosing/buying your attendants’ accessories? Where have you gone to look for accessories in bulk?

Good job on the Macy’s sale- that’s what we did too. Now please enlighten me- how do you get the Mr. to watch the to do list?? I’d love some pointers.

Me too. Mr. Joey stays as far away from that list as possible.

I think I might have to check out Macy’s for ties! This isn’t the only post on Weddingbee about it. :-)

I decided to DIY bracelets and earrings for our bridesmaids - which I’d never been into before. I got all the supplies from firemountaingems. I bought necklaces from marc + pearl during their liquidation sale ($200 necklaces for $11 each!). I am also DIYing bouquet charms, so they all know whose bouquet is whose - the charms have their birthstone color on them (also from firemountaingems).

I can’t see a photo of the brooches, is that me, or is it not up there?

I don’t think my fiance even knows that I have/need a to do list!

What awesome deals! I’m lucky like you - my FI definitely keeps check on the to do list and helps as much as possible. He’s been very into the details, surprisingly! I adore BeneFit, makes me want to go by Sephora!

Shh…I bought them all jewelry in Paris. It isn’t for the wedding, just pieces that I thought each of them would like :) I guess I hadn’t even thought of accessories for them - oops!!

Great finds!

@Miss Peep Toe: @Jenny Bee@Miss Joey: : Like LzzNYC and Steph921’s FIs, Mr. P helps out as much as possible. Honestly, I don’t do anything to push him along. He does it on his own…I think for fear if he waits for me to do it, it will never get done. Maybe if you guys faked incompetence/indifference your guys will get worried. No, that’s a bad idea. Just keep doing what you’re doing.

@Grey56: Lucky find and lucky you to know how to make jewelry!

@Miss Quiche: OMG, lucky girls! Good job on the BR deals!

If by choosing attendants accessories, you mean making DIY fairy wings in complementary colors then yes. ;-)

Also, debating having one of my very talented BMs make custom jewelry for the girls.

Does that count?

I go back and forth on what to give them. I’ve been a bridesmaid 4 times, and 3 times, the bride’s gift to her bridesmaid was the bridesmaid dress which was very nice but kind of took the magic out of it. I’d like to surprise my girls with a spa day or something truely usable, lovable, and personable to wear on my wedding day that the could wear again. Jury is still out though…

Nice work Miss Perfume - I’m impressed!! We loved the look of Robert Talbott ties for the guys, so we went to the only outlet in Carmel Valley, CA and got some for as little as $10! We couldn’t get all of them there, and the ones we had to order were much more expensive, even tho I ordered them through my work and got my employee discount. I gave my maids custom jewelry made by Megan Lawlor Collections out of pearls my grandfather had given my aunt.

This is so nice of you! I wish wish wish I could have bought my ladies all of their jewelry. In the end I let them wear whatever jewelry they wanted, but got them each one fabulous cotume jewelry ring to tie them together. ‘Bling Rings’ if you will. They were really fun! Your choices are very nice. Any maid would be so lucky to get them and they can go with anything, so you know they will be used again! Good job!!!
