About Mrs. Bruschetta

Square is the New Round

April 1st, 2009 @ 5:30 pm by Mrs. Bruschetta

Let me preface this by stating the obvious: All diamonds are gorgeous.

But I always found myself attracted to shapes deviating from the norm — particularly any that incorporate straight edges.

At first, I was drawn to the ever-popular princess cut. Then, I expanded my horizons, and learned about the Asscher, cushion and radiant (oh my!).

Mr. Bruschetta and I began to peruse together in October 2006. In one store, we learned about a diamond company, Hearts on Fire, and saw examples of its square-like stone, the Dream.

(Please excuse the poor picture; it’s nearly impossible to find a good one of the Dream online!)

Together, we heard about the amazingly high standards to which Hearts on Fire holds its artisans (less than 400 people in the world qualify to craft the company’s two signature cuts) and the precision that goes into creating each diamond (which are crafting using 100X magnification — 10 times the industry standard). And I found my ideal square-shaped stone, which possesses many of the properties of the Hearts on Fire (round/brilliant) diamond, including a ring of symmetrical hearts when viewed from the bottom.

We loved what we saw, and I found I couldn’t stop thinking about the Dream. In January 2007, after comparing several similar Dreams side-by-side, we selected one to purchase. (Wow, was that an exciting feeling!) However, we decided to wait on the setting, as I wasn’t sure exactly what style I liked best.

Who says learning about engagement rings — and diamonds — is just for the guys?

I actually have a sapphire as the main stone in my ring, but I was tempted for a diamond when the salesman in the store took a Hearts on Fire diamond against a flashlight! Wow!!

I don’t think I’d ever even heard of a dream cut until now. It’s really unique and gorgeous! And dang, girl, how do you consistently write 2 blog posts in one day?

I think that pricescope.com is an excellent resource for people searching for a diamond. It tells you everything to need to know about what specifications are ideal for any given shape of diamond. Cut is by far the most important of the 4 Cs.

Hi! Feb.15th 2009 my fiance surprised me with a cushion cut diamond! I think it is the most amazing cut of diamond I’ve ever seen. I agree. I like the square look better than round. Cushion is even more sparkly than a round!

Ooooo i’ve never seen that one! I’m a fan of the roundish squareish look as my FI picked out a lovely cushion for me! And yes, they do have more facets than a round. I love it!!!!!! I love that people look at it and go “omg what is that?!” because it’s not real common. My ring should be unique, like me, right? Your Dream is gorgeous, though! And hearts and fire has spectacular rings. Congrats!

I LOVE the cushion cut! Ever since I saw one on an episode of the bachelorette (don’t make fun) years ago, I’ve always wanted one. We ordered my ring online and it came in the mail today so I got to look before he got home….. and maybe wear it on my left hand for ahile…

Very nice. I have never seen this cut before. It’s nice to pick it out to get exactaly what you want, but I loved the suprise of having my husband suprise me with a ring and the engagement. I love that he chose it all himself for me.

I love the Dream! It was between the Dream, X-Factor, Square Hearts and Arrows, and Princess of Hearts. Something about cut corner square diamonds just makes my heart flutter.
I ended with an X-Factor because I loved that it sparkled like a princess cut. I wish that Square H&A and PoH weren’t so deep (thereby faces up smaller)…but they have to be cut that way in order to get the necessary H&A pattern. =(

That dream is gorgeous! I’d never seen it before. My FI went with a princess cut and I adore it! I left everything up to him and he did fabulous!

We did a square cut radiant. I’ve never seen so many facets in a diamond before. I do get a few comments about my “small” diamond. It just faces “small”, but I don’t care!

Miss B, you had me at square =)

My husband surprised me with a beautiful square radiant in a tacori setting (2584rd65) which gives it a modern-vintage look. It’s perfect for me and I get a lot of compliments on it. I’m biased but I think that square is the best. =)

My cousin and her boyfriend are currently looking for her perfect diamond and they’re deciding between a cushion cut and the dream cut. Thank you for sharing your post – now I know what she’s talking about when she mentions Hearts on Fire.

Can’t wait to see your ring….
