Mrs. Perfume's Picture
Mrs. Perfume, DC Age and Occupation: 36, Consultant (and Part-Time Professor) Fiance's Age and Occupation: 41, Consultant Engagement Date: May 13, 2008 Wedding Date: May, 2009 Venue: The Homestead, Hot Springs, Virginia About Me: I'd like to think that I'm a modern day Little Edie Beale. Only not as..."talented". More realistically, I'm a foodie who can't bake; a dancer and dilettente; an art collector with a penchant for the whimsical and subversive. I live in the city and adore the country, but not much in between. I like smart design, great craftmanship and good value. Most of all, I love the new vintage aesthetic: classic, sweet, delicate, bespoke. If I had to do it all over again, I'd go for a culinary arts degree rather than a PhD; but wouldn't trade Mr. P for the world.

Tailored to Fit: Mr. P’s Ensemble

April 2nd, 2009 @ 10:58 am by Mrs. Perfume

Mr. P went to pick up his suit from the shop on Monday. We took pictures of him in it last night! It’s really slim and fitted. Look at how pegged the legs are! He also just got his shirt (that his old Hong Kong tailors made him) in the mail today. He wanted a very slim fitting shirt to go under the coat, with a high spread collar, and thick buttons.

Here’s the ensemble. Now we need to find a tie!

What tie would you pair with this ensemble?

That’s really a great looking suit! Your FI is skinny like my husband! My husband also wore a grey suit for our wedding (Hickey Freeman), although his had a very (VERY) subtle windowpane rather than pinstripes. The windowpane pattern was actually pink, so he wore a pink tie with a paisley tone-on-tone pattern on it, and it was LOVELY. The tie was absurdly expensive (a last minute purchase at Harrod’s), but it was worth it. Pink and grey go great together. If you want to see pictures, PM me and I’ll send you some. It was a great combo.

A light champagne/ivory tie to go with the attendants’ ties but also stand out a little and set him apart as the groom?

What a great looking suit! I would say either a champagne or a brighter blue with more teal/green in it to coordinate with the BM dresses and the groomsmans ties would look great with the gray too.

Also, while looking back to see your BM dresses it just hit me you’re getting married at the Homestead. *sigh* I adore the location. I’m VA girl living in KY, but the Homestead is fabulous! Before we decided on a Louisville wedding the Homestead was on top of our list for a VA wedding. Can’t wait to see the gorgeous pics from Day of!

With the pinstripes a solid tie would look nice in your colors. I would agree that you would want him to stand out a bit by having a different tie.

The suit looks great!! I’d say light pink, but I think a blue to match your bridesmaid’s dresses would look fab!

Hmmm…are you debating long tie or bow tie, or just color? If you can get him to agree to pink, I say do it! ;-)

Love the suit! Mr. Taffy tried his tux on last night to make sure it didn’t need any alterations, and we had a dance party in the living room. I was wearing my pajamas, and looked pretty shabby next to his tux!

What a fantastic suit! I’d go with a miracle tie that somehow matches or compliments both your BM dresses and attendant’s ties. I mean, I don’t have any suggestions where to find them…but still :) Good Luck!

Love those pants!! Gah!

I think something with the bridesmaid blue color would look FAB with that suit.

I would go with the blue in the attendants ties. It would look great with the suit, and sort of coordinate with the guys.

Thanks guys!!! So everyone seems to recommend pink, Champagne, or blue. I should also mention that the groomsmen are wearing navy suits.

@Miss Taffy: Aw! I love that!

@Miss D’orsay: Indeed, a miracle tie is necessary!

@Miss Bruschetta: Long tie, lest he look like Pee Wee Herman!

@Lindz1701: Yes, I agree, a solid, but perhaps with subtle texture?

@Steph921: Thank you!!! Yey, VA mountains!!

@LittleBear: Ha! Thanks! It’s funny what people notice–I forget!

I LOVE Mr F’s suit! FH is also going for grey, he is wearing a simple black tie w/ a tie clip. We wanted FH’s suit to go well with my dress, so we looked like a couple.
Then his groomsmen are wearing lighter grey suits with aqua (or light blue) ties. Since my BMs don’t completely match me I didn’t think FH needed to be twins with his dudes.
What color tie are your GMs wearing with their Navy suits?

Miss Perfume, would you mind disclosing an email address or website for the Hong Kong tailors who made Mr. P’s slim cut shirt? FH is having the worst time finding a form fitting shirt (at a reasonable price). Wedding is May 30 and we’re running out of time. Please PM! Thank you — as for his tie color, anything will look good with that suit. =) Maybe a solid champagne tie if the boys are wearing striped versions?

@AliCherri1: Thanks! I hear you on not needing to be twins! The guys, however, will wear the same ties we got them (see my last post)–they were on sale!

@Vivian D: No problem! Here is the information:

De-Luxe Tailor
Rm 707-8 Yip Fung Bldg
2-18 D’Aguilar St, Central
Hong Kong
Tel:(852)2522-9645
Fax:(852)2868-4597

Brothers Paul and Johnny run the small business. Mr. P has been going to them for years and they have his measurements. They’ll either give you instructions on how to measure–or maybe you can go to your local seamstress to get measured. Also, here is their email address: paulyiu@netvigator.com .

The price is really reasonable–much, much less than having, say, BB or Thos. Pink to a custom shirt!!! Good luck and best wishes!!

i say a pale colored tie, maybe a richly-textured ivory/cream? some slightly sparkly threads in the tie may complement your sheath gown too (granted, i’ve never seen your dress :P )

very nice suit, i must say!
