Hi everyone!
Wow, I can’t believe it’s been over a week since Mr. M and I got married! I’m actually a MRS! I know this may sound cheesy, but to us, the wedding was perfect. Our friends and family had a great time, and that was really all we ever wanted. I must have been floating on a super high cloud or something, because it seemed as if nothing could bother me on that day. Even when Mr. Martini broke the news to me about how he couldn’t find a missing groomsman for hours before finally discovering that he’d just overslept, I shrugged my shoulders. When the Maitre d’ came up to me holding one of the menus that we slaved over to tell me that one of the menu items was wrong, my response was, “Eh, nobody’s going to notice - it’s fine!”
There were so many memorable moments, and I’m happy to say that most were caught on camera! I’ll be sure to post some of the crazier pictures soon for the recaps. We’re talking crowd surfing and human pyramids!!
I did get to see a short teaser slide show of pictures from our awesome photographers, Cly Creation. I am so incredibly happy with them, and I seriously can’t wait to see and share the rest!
After the wedding, I was wiped out. I had been going on four hours of sleep a night, and I was super stressed. I didn’t get the chance to write about this before, but Mr. Martini and I also made the tough decision to postpone our honeymoon until the fall. With the economy the way it was, and our job security on thin ice, we thought it was the right thing to do. When I mentioned this to Mr. and Mrs. Bee, the first thing they said was, “You should still go on a minimoon!”
The thought never really occurred to us, because we really wanted to save all of our vacation days, but I mentioned the possibility to Mr. Martini, and he immediately planned a short, nearby trip for us to get away and decompress from the wedding. All of the sudden, having a “Honeymoon in my Hometown” was starting to feel very real to us.
We didn’t stay in my hometown though, but we weren’t very far away. Just four hours and a ferry ride away was Martha’s Vineyard. Mr. Martini has been to Martha’s Vineyard about five or six times on family trips, but I’ve never been. I’ve always wanted to go, so although it was still off-season on the island, he was eager to take me there. He found this darling little place called Hob Knob, which is a luxury boutique, bed and breakfast-style hotel located in Edgartown. He specifically chose this place because the hotel is eco-friendly and uses locally grown organic foods. I have to admit he really doesn’t care much about that stuff, but he knows I do, and constantly pointed those facts out to me, feeling totally proud of himself that he was “being green”. I wouldn’t say I’m totally green either, but I was much more conscious about it after my MOH J educated me and convinced me to be more eco-friendly. I really loved that he chose this place with me in mind.

The first day, all we did was sleep. And sleep. And sleep. It was pretty funny, because we wouldn’t always sleep at the same time. Mr. Martini would take a 3-hour nap, then as soon as he’d wake up, I’d start getting tired and fall asleep. He’d whine about me sleeping and leaving him alone, but then as soon as I’d wake up, he would start to drift back into slumberland. At one point, he was so bored during my nap that he snapped some pictures of me sleeping. The hilarious thing was that, during HIS naps, I snapped pictures of him while he was sleeping, without knowing he had already taken pictures of me!

Since Mr. Martini has forbidden me to post pictures of him sleeping, I will post mine in order to show you how comfortable this bed was. I didn’t ever want to get out of it.
The whole island is just so quaint and adorable, and Hob Knob was the perfect house to stay in. I especially loved this wrap around porch. The people there are just so laid back, and because it was off-season, we pretty much had the entire hotel to ourselves! On the second night, we bought a bottle of champagne from a nearby liquor store and sat out on the porch with some munchies. It was perfect.
The food at the hotel and around the Island was soooo good that I ate to full capacity and got totally swollen within two days. Since I was hardcore dieting for the wedding, eating all those carbs had a pretty negative effect on me. My ring was super tight on my fingers and I could feel the stiffness when I made a fist. I think I gained back about 10 pounds in just those few days alone!
Breakfast at the Hob Knob:

This was my tribute to a hilarious scene in the movie “Forgetting Sarah Marshall”, when the Japanese tourists are taking pictures of their food holding forks and knives. I swear, I’m really not this cheesy. Cough.
Lunch and Dinner at Martha’s Vineyard:

If you ever go, make sure to try Quahog Clam Chowder. This one is from Black Dog Tavern. YUMMMM!

The best fish and chips I’ve ever had in my life
You can’t go wrong with any seafood dish at Martha’s Vineyard. These are steamed Mussels from Zephrus.
More chowder! We thought it was a little better at Black Dog.

Our last meal was at the Wharf, and we went a little crazy.

The server there told us that their stuffed quahogs were among the best, and we were skeptical at first. But I have to admit they were probably THE best I’ve had. There were sausages or something in the stuffing, and OMG… I want to go back to get some more!

We were so full that we were barely able to breathe.
Things to do at Martha’s Vineyard:
To be honest, there really wasn’t much to do during the time we went. Most of the stores were closed for the winter and some were just starting to dust off their shelves. We shopped around at a few stores and mostly went sightseeing. It was a great opportunity to use our SLR.

The obligatory ring shot on the beach! LOL!
Here are a few more shots in and around Hob Knob:

Wine glasses and ice buckets. I actually broke a glass
. We felt as if we were guests in someone’s home rather than at a normal hotel, and felt super terrible. We confessed the very next morning, but luckily we didn’t get in trouble.

Hob Knob was also selling these 100% organic and eco friendly shower gels, and I ended up buying them before we left. Apparently they were brought in from a store called Eco MV, an eco-friendly store nearby. We really wanted to stop by there, but they are only open on the weekends during the winter.
I had a great time relaxing and spending time with Mr. Martini. I loved Martha’s Vineyard and hope to go back again. Of course, it wasn’t the destination we hoped for, or the length of time we hoped for, and we would love to get a chance to finally go on a real honeymoon sometime soon. But I’m extremely thankful that we had a chance to spend some time alone. If I had to give any advice to anyone struggling with honeymoon issues, I would recommend definitely going somewhere—anywhere—even if it’s just for a couple of days. It’s just so worth it, and it doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg. And really…. once you’re there, all you will think about is that you are with your life partner (ACK! It’s for LIFE!), and nothing else will matter.
