Picture Perfect… Or Wait?

April 3rd, 2009 @ 3:07 pm by Mrs. Gloss

Generally, I am overly concerned about looking terrible in photographs. This fear that is compounded by the fact that I just received a new license. I think it has almost become second nature to duck out of pictures and/or just generally avoid them whenever I can. But really, I LOVE pictures, and this is the one thing I am most excited about for the wedding - weird, I know. Keeping this in mind, here is a list of things I am most concerned about on my wedding day:

A. Yellow teeth. I don’t drink coffee or smoke, so I really shouldn’t be so concerned. Also, I use straws whenever possible, because they just make things more fun. But I just get nervous about yellow teeth. So, Crest White Strips, here I come… again. (The last time I used them they made my teeth super sensitive and it hurt to eat. Hmm, maybe that will actually be a good thing for me…)

B. Looking so much taller than Mr. Gloss.

Yes, it’s true; I am taller than Mr. G by about 4″ on a bad day… therefore I can been confined to shoes with no more that 1/8″ heel, and he will be wearing a little extra *padding* down there… I know it’s something that I shouldn’t really be concerned about, since ’appearance doesn’t matter’, but I don’t want the pictures to look funny.

C. Vagina Arms. They’re the little folds of skin around the armpit area - enough said. See picture below of Tyra, and the term beautifully described by Miss Candy Corn here.

image

I’m sure there are other things I’m missing. What are you nervous about on your wedding day?

ha ha! My good friend calls it Armpit fat. :) I’m sure the photographers will photoshop everything the least bit bad out so just smile and enjoy! :) About the teeth though… I told me dentist I was getting married and as a gift for being their patient they give you a free wedding polish appointment to help with stains. Maybe your dentist might have something similar? :)

If you use sensitive toothpaste for a week or so before you start using the strips your teeth won’t hurt so bad…I learned from experience. :)

I was really nervous about yellow teeth, too!!I’m getting married in 3 weeks and went in for the Zoom light/bleaching treatment at my dentist last week. I’m not going to lie–it’s expensive (almost $500) and was kind of painful (they use some kind of material to cover up your gums but a little bit of mine poked through and got a bit burnt from the light). My dentist had me take a whole bunch of Motrin and Tylonol afterward, and I brushed with Sensodyne for a few days. But…after a week, I am SO happy with the results! Plus it was only about an hour and a half of pain rather than the stress of using WhiteStrips for a lot longer.

I am not a big coffee drinker and don’t smoke, but my teeth had yellowed over the years from soda and other things. I am SO happy with how it turned out!

Tripping and falling at any point in time during the day! I almost took a spill in my wedding dress when I went to try it on after it came in — not fun. :-(

Ha ha!!!! I was just thinking about Vagina Arms yesterday, but I couldn’t remember what they were called!!! And yes, I am planning on getting some whitening strips for by teeth!!

Yikes, that first picture freaks me out, haha! But I actually had the Zoom treatment a few months ago b/c I was getting a cosmetic crown put in and my dentist recommended getting my teeth as white as possible first. I have sensitive teeth already but the procedure was a killer! If you’re thinking about it, make sure the person who works on you preps you REALLY well and provides you something to get their attention if you have any discomfort. I was okay during the first round was was in agony the 2nd and third. Not that this should dissuade you from getting the treatment ;), just be informed!

Now that it’s been a few months, I really like how my teeth have stayed a nice white color even though I am a big coffee and soda drinker — I just opt to drink my soda through a straw (hoping avoiding my teeth, haha) and maintain a dental regimen that will hopefully keep my teeth white! I’ve definitely gotten compliments from people who know me and I’m excited that I’ll be able to have a pretty white smile at the wedding =).

OMG. I’ve never heard of vagina arms!
I’m worried about yellow teeth too! That’s why in the next month before my FSA expires I’m going to get a teeth cleaning then another one next year just before the wedding. And yeah definitely whitestrips altho I despise using them.
I am also worried about have that unwanted friend visit on that day. Not the end of the world but still it would be that many more bathroom trips…

I’ve got crest white strips. Can’t wait for another 3 shades lighter!
One thing that I was VERY concerned about when dress shopping was: back cleavage. This happens when you wear a dress and the bust is too small and it looks like you’ve got buttcheeks poking up from your strapless dress…between your shoulder blades. I specifically avoided ANY back cleavage!!!
And vajayjay arms…you can all avoid that by posing with your hands on your hips instead of tucked up against your body!

I am half an inch short of six feet. I am taller than my significant other. I will always be taller than him. I am fine with that. I think you just have to accept it and move forward. Embrace your height and love it. ;)

I had a hard time reading while your yellow teeth pic was in my line of sight! I’m sure you’ll be gorgeous. I’m picking out shoes now, too, and worried about my height in comparison to my groom, but I’m going to have to get over it and wear cute shoes!

Vagina arms… uggg. I know exactly what you mean and I think my dress makes me look like I have them!!!!!!! LOL
But holding a bouquet all day will definitely help with that because your arms will be out at an angle!
And start brushing with Sensodyne before and during the time you use the Crest… that should help a lot!

Smile flab…when I really grin, my cheeks split so it looks like I have semi-double chin- I’ll have to practice my sweet, amused but not about to keel over with laughter grin!
I’m also paranoid about arm fat, although I don’t think I have vagina arms…ack!

OMG I am so with you, except FI is taller than me….by 3 inches. I love the term Vagina Arms too!! Ugh no matter what I do I can’t get rid of them, but thank goodness the wonderful Miss Cheese’s mama is gonna make me a shrug to cover them up!! And I’m thinking of trying the Crest White Strips Advance Seal closer to the big day

I’ve started my first box of Whitestrips and plan to use one or two more in the next 5 months. I’m really paranoid about the yellow teeth! I’m also worried about the back cleavage that MightySapphire was referring to, and my arms looking huge in pictures!

Ha ha… vagina arms…. I have never heard that before. Yeah I am hoping to get rid of those too. Try doing some strength exercises with 3 pound (or whatever weight you choose) weights.

I already have sensitive teeth so I am not sure if Crest White strips are for me. I don’t know… I will probably just go tanning a bit to make my teeth look whiter.

Loosing weight/toning won’t help with C. If you have any fat at all around that area, or heck, just skin, and you’re wearing a strapless dress that’s tight up there like it should be, it’s inevitable. Just be aware and don’t hold your arms down at your sides and you’ll be fine.

I worry about height also - my fiance is 17 inches taller than me! Even though it is part of who we are, I still want to get some nice ‘face to face’ shots.

I had my teeth whitened by the dentist last month. I’m very happy with the results, though it hurt like he!! for a day. After that I was fine.

I *always* have dark circles under my eyes, and they look terrible in photographs. I can imagine that a makeup artist might be able to help, and photoshop too, but man, I don’t want them in my pictures!

I also have a bit of a lazy eye that is always evident in pictures… Ugh.

Flabby arms and the huge grin = double chin issue that has already been mentioned.

Yup I have the vagina pits too, they suck but my hair is down and my dress comes right above that area. I am still concerned though, lets see, back fat, arm pit fat, and yellow teeth that is my top three.

I’m also thinking of trying the whitestrips, although fyi, I asked my dentist about it and he said I should do it now - a few months before my September wedding - so there aren’t any surprises I can’t get rid of. Apparently I have a little bit of something (can’t recall the term now) but where there are a few little tinystripes on my front teeth that are lighter than my other teeth - it’s very common. I’m told those might take differently to the bleach, so bottom line is try those whitestrips out early!

The teeth are freaking me out!

I worry most about arms. I don’t want them to look fat…for example, if my arms are flattened around Mr. Q’s neck and look wide. I know, it’s crazy…

*lets out a blood curdling horror movie scream* I’ve never known about vagina arms! Right now, as we speak, I’m going through photos I’ve posted online, making sure I haven’t overlooked this awful phenomenon. It’s ok… lol.

I was worried about the height thing. We are the same height without shoes so I’m just wearing flats! no heal at all. I went back & forth, because this doesn’t seem very bridal or lady-like to me. But I reasoned that I wanted to be comfortable and not hunching in photos! I’m also do white strips a few weeks before the wedding/ along with some tanning.

@Miss Quiche: Quiche, your arms are amazingly thin. You crazy girl!!

Gloss, I feel your pain. I should probably whiten my teeth, but I get lazy and always forget to put the strips on. Also, like you, my teeth get sensitive. Judging from your profile pic, you have gorgeous pearly whites! But we all have stuff we are self-conscious about. I feel you on that.

I think on Bee TV earlier we were talking about the white strips and someone said they used them every other day because it made their teeth sensitive, so that helped…maybe you could give it a try?

I am really nervous about photos and not standing up straight. There’s nothing worse than photos of me hunching my shoulders. I’m trying to make myself more conscious of it.

ahhh I posted a whole series of blog posts about my insecurities:
minor crookedness of my teeth, lack of boobage, and the fact that my left is smaller/more closed than my right eye (lazy?) and I have big bags under my eyes.
That and the usual concerns–double chin, flabby arms, etc

@LatteLove: That’s not lazy, lazy is where one eye roams on it’s own. I have it too, and everyone around me keeps telling me that I only notice it so much because I’m not used to seeing myself in pictures. No one else sees it until you point it out!
