Mrs. Cowboy Boot's Picture
Mrs. Cowboy Boot, Santa Fe Age and Occupation: 25, Magazine Editor Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Artist and Whitewater Rafting Guide Engagement Date: April 28th, 2008 Wedding Date: October 2009 Venue: Devil's Thumb Ranch, Colorado About Me: I grew up in Los Angeles and have since lived in San Diego, Boston, Italy, Hawaii, New York City, and Santa Fe. I speak Italian and love pasta. My real passion is the outdoors, though. When I'm not at work, I'm snowboarding, hiking with my two dogs, mountain biking, surfing, cross-country-skiing, or boating New Mexico's rivers. Despite my boyish love for adventure, I'm a girly-girl at heart and am overly-excited to pull off the romantic, vintage-inspired, country wedding of my dreams.
About Mrs. Cowboy Boot

Rule number one: Don’t ever let your best friends tell you that trying on dresses at Saks Fifth Avenue in Beverly Hills is a good idea. Don’t let them lure you with ideas of giggling, designer dresses, and bottles of champagne. I don’t care that it’s been four months since you’ve seen your best friends, that both of them are your maids-of-honor, and that this girls’ trip to the bridal department of an upscale store sounds all-too-delightfully-fun and Pretty Woman-like. (No, I’m not a prostitute, but you get the idea.)

Because, if you do bite, if you even nibble at their supportive, ultra-fun, best-friends-a-girl-could-have behavior, you’ll end up like this…

Drum roll please…

MR. COWBOY BOOT. ABSOLUTELY NOT. STEP AWAY FROM THE COMPUTER.

Meet Julianna

The Dress Hunt (Final Edition) : wedding wedding dress Dscn044 Julianna is a part of Christos’ Spring 2009 collection:

The Dress Hunt (Final Edition) : wedding wedding dress Dscn04401

Below is the face the reader “fabulouslyengaged” described in her comment on my first dress post: “When you find ’the one’ it will just speak to you. When I tried on my dress… I just burst out laughing when I saw myself in it because I LOVED how it looked on me.”

The Dress Hunt (Final Edition) : wedding wedding dress Dscn043 Julianna was one day away from being in New York the day I tried her on. She was a part of a trunk show that had ended the day before my appointment with Saks. But, the dresses were still out on the floor about to be packed up.

This particular sample also happened to be in my size, which is why I could get a real feel for how she would fit me. When does that ever happen?

The Dress Hunt (Final Edition) : wedding wedding dress Dscn04403

Now for the secret: Julianna actually has cap sleeves, but I’m removing them. They are covered in rhinestones and pearls. I’m going to remove the pearls and use them to make necklaces for my bridesmaids.

While Julianna was way over my budget ($3600), what else was I to do? She felt perfect. I mean, I got that silly grin on my face swimming in all of that taffeta. I knew it was fate. The plus side? You get 10% off when you open a Saks card ($360 score!) and, if I have her shipped to me in New Mexico, I pay $50 for shipping, but no California tax, which is around 9% ($325ish) I think. Alterations at Saks are not cheap–$450 no matter how much or little you need–so I’m taking Julianna elsewhere. I don’t need much (just a hem job on the bottom and maybe have her taken in a tiny bit on top), but Julie Jones from Encore Bridal recommended Coco Alterations in Redondo Beach.

Now, I’m just waiting by the phone for the saleswoman to tell me she’s arrived at Saks. Sigh.

Did you end up spending out of your budget for your dream dress?

Wow, it looks SO much better on you than on the model. You picked a knock-out of a dress, and it looks like it was made for you! Gorgeous.

I also spent way more then I wanted to on my dress, it was at a trunk show too, I had to snatch it up I had to. It is worth it, your dress is so beautiful on you, you can’t fight the feeling ya know? I think making necklaces out of the beadwork is a great personal meaningful touch too!

Congrats! She’s beautiful. And what a fun idea of how to reuse the pearls! :-) Is the bottom-most layer taffeta?

Oh my gosh…is it wrong that I don’t want your dress posts to end? You look amazing in it and I’m happy you found “the one”. I was terrified to try on dresses out of my budget. I literally shut my eyes at one of them because I caught a glimpse of how pretty it looked.

I love her! Doesn’t the taffeta make you want to swirl around and around like you are little again?
Question for you: My dress is ‘taffeta based’ as well – have you thought about what you are going to do for your veil? I’m nervous about ODing on taffeta -

Aw. You look absolutely beautiful in that dress! I love the little wing top neckline, it’s so fun! I really like the idea of taking the cap sleeves to make necklaces for your BMs, so sentimental. :)
The fact that the dress was one day away from leaving the store AND in your size has to be fate!

I wonder if that acknowledgement of finding “the one” comes for EVERY bride?

Since you brought up Pretty Woman…”Do you know what this is? This is fate, Edward. That’s what this is” :)

GORGEOUS.

Ohhhh all that taffeta. I will take your advice and not go shopping in Beverly Hills! I must remain focused on the house we want and the children we want one day and steer clear of dresses that are ever so lovely and to-die-for gorgeous…sigh.

Congrats on the perfect dress!

Congrats! It’s amazing!

Just an FYI Christine at Christine’s Bridal in Santa Fe does an amazing alteration at a reasonable price. Also, if you are up for a drive alterations by Kathy in Albuquerque does fabulous alterations too, for even better price than Christines!
