Mrs. D'orsay's Picture
Mrs. D'orsay, Baltimore/Lancaster UK Age and Occupation: 24, Stay at home fiance (formerly in nonprofit communications) Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Web site developer and designer; co-owner of men's skincare shop Engagement Date: August 10, 2008 Wedding Date: August, 2009 Venue: Oakland Manor About Me: I'm a Maryland raised environmental policy wonk/activist/organizer and communications aficionado. In the past year I've lived in Baltimore, MD, Tucson, AZ, Miami, FL and Lancaster, England. In my not so spare time I enjoy planning trips with Mr. D' Orsay, visiting friends and family and crafting like a mo-fo. I also enjoy modern dance classes, rugby and soccer but have been banned by my mother, MOHs, and Mr. D' Orsay from playing till after the wedding. I have an unnatural addiction to cheese and shoes, but love Mr. D' Orsay more than either and can't wait to become Mrs. D' Orsay!
About Mrs. D'orsay

… it’s good enough for Mr. D. You see, Mr. D isn’t wild about the idea of “man jewelry”, but I’m slowly convincing him to wear a wedding ring. After checking out men’s wedding rings, Mr. D and I were relaxing with a glass of wine when he realized that David Beckham wears a wedding ring (so clearly, it must be manly?).

Mr. D assumed Becks would have a simple, classic style wedding band, so we set about Googling “David Beckham wedding band” until we found a picture. This is what we found:

(source)

So… it’s not exactly Mr. D’s idea of a simple or classic wedding band. Thus, the search continues. I can’t buy jewelry online (I need to touch it!), so I guess we’ll have to wait till we get back to the US.

How are you and your mister finding his ring? Does he want to wear a ring or… not so much?

That’s a pretty ring…actually I want to wear it. My FI wants something durable and simple to wear…so I guess I’ll luck out for in the search for simple bands, the options are endless…

My husband stopped wearing his ring after losing the second one I just got him. He found his original ring after the replacement had come in and now he has lost the replacement. He won’t wear his original ring because he knows he’ll lose it. This is why we got him a titanium ring from eBay that was pretty cheap. He has a tendency to lose things.

Here is his ring: http://www.flickr.com/photos/27217954@N05/2683657696/in/set-72157606262500053/

Mine is looking for something different, but simple. His favorite right now is a wooden ring we found on Etsy. They have a great selection!

I got my FI a titanium ring. With his job, he was really worried about getting something durable (and manly) so it wouldn’t get scratched or ruined. Titanium is also non-reactive and hypoallergenic. But basically, FI is kinda geeky and thought having a titanium ring just seemed cool.

Here’s the link: http://www.titaniumrings.com/galahadB.html

My FI wanted something simple as well. We brought a Tungsten ring at a local jewelry store.

Why wouldn’t he want to wear a ring? Silly! I mean I know it’s jewelry, but it’s not frou frou pointless, y’know? he’ll come around once he finds something good =)

My fiance was not into the ring thing, but once he started trying them on and thinking about it he got excited. Then when the ring arrived he became super excited. He also got a tungsten and he can send it back for free if his ring size changes over time so he won’t have any excuse not to wear it.

I’m guessing he doesn’t wear that ring during games … although if he did he could ‘bend it like Beckham’ to catch the light and blind his opponent.

My fiance also went with tungsten … the symbol for it is “W”, the same as his last name (and my future last name).

Did you guys know that titanium is SO strong and durable that it’s kind of dangerous? I just heard that some places won’t sell it because it doesn’t bend, so if you have to get it CUT off in an emergency, it’s really hard to do (they have to cut it on both sides, and it rips into the finger)

My man is too accident prone for that….it’s back to the drawing board!

And….for the online jewelry worries…try Bluenile.com - their return policy is great and relieves lots of the stress of not being able to touch it!! :)

My FI was nervous about the ring because he HATES bling. We would both call that Becks ring “glitter” and that isn’t a compliment! We both chose our rings. He chose a simple two-tone tungsten ring from my FAVE jeweler. It fits his idea of manly but not “glitter.” Yay Shane Co!!

My FH actually can’t wait til the wedding day when he finally gets to wear his wedding ring. He likes a little bling, so there are a few diamonds on the ring, but nothing Beckham-style!

That is one crazy ring! My FI would never in a million years! He works outside doing land surveying/engineering and wants to wear a ring to show he’s taken and committed, but is concerned about either losing it, scratching it or denting it. We’re going to be looking for something that it durable. I saw a ring on Budget Savvy Bride and we’ll probably look into something it - Tungsten Carbide. It claims to be the hardest metal available, but we haven’t researched yet.

FI doesn’t like bling. We settled on a nice tungsten band. I think he’s excited to wear it, but he’s not much into man jewelry. at one point he said he’d just tattoo “taken” or “married” or something of the sort on his ring finger.
