Adorable Save-the-Date Idea

April 6th, 2009 @ 11:24 am by Mrs. Cowboy Boot

A coworker of mine is engaged! She got engaged just a couple of months after we did. It’s so much fun to have someone down the hall to giggle and gaggle with about everything wedding-related. My favorite detail she’s shown me as of late? Her concert poster-inspired save-the-dates are similar to Ms. Joey’s adorable posters, but hers are not full-sized. Instead, they are around 5″ x 7″. I asked my coworker if I could share her STDs with the hive, and she was more than open about it.

No less than letterpress, her save-the-dates were made by an actual poster company in Nashville, Tennessee, called Hatch Show Print. This particular print house has items in museums, and they make posters for greats such as Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen. Even with all of their fame, her letterpress save-the-dates came out to something like $3.00 a piece. Yes, pricey, but not so bad for letterpress. And, they are completely unique.

Did you do anything out-of-the-box and completely unique for your stationery?

what a great save the date! we went the other extreme and tiny for our Save the Dates by recreating tickets that looked like zoo tickets since we’re getting married at the Louisville Zoo. We’ve heard great things and people were surprised we made them ourselves!

Wow, I would love to have a save the date like that. I would put it up in my house for sure. A letter press poster! I would pay the three bucks!

Those are really charming. I went with a traditional magnet (I looove magnets in general). One thing I would change about that is that I would have made our wedding website more distinctive, maybe larger font or a different color. It was at the very bottom of our magnet and I think people mistook it for magnet company info.

I would have loved to incorporate Hatch prints into our wedding somehow, but they weren’t in the budget. I’ve loved them since we used them two years ago for a company project. They were great to work with and their history is incrediable. They’ve been in business since 1875 I think…most of the time in their same location. If you are in Nashville you can even visit their shop.

If anyone is interested this is the link to their site where you can order prints of old posters, etc.

i wish i’d done something unique. i got so overwhelmed with STDs because they really solidifed everything and so many of our guests were coming from out of town and time was moving so fast…that we nixed them all together and just sent the invites out a few weeks early. the more i see modern twists on the STD idea, the more i wish i’d done something cute and memorable.

I used hatch for my wedding invites. They shipped on Friday, but I ran across it on the designers blog. They turned out really cool, and will be 14 x22 posters since we are getting married in the movie theatre.
