Free Platinum

April 6th, 2009 @ 11:01 am by Mrs. Gloss

When I excitedly called the Glossy Grandparents to tell them my good news that I was engaged, Nana Gloss said that she would like us to have a bar of platinum that Grampa Gloss had bought for her some time ago.

Grampa Gloss had bought it with the intention of designing a ring for her, but she found a ’pre-made’ one she liked in the meantime, and the platinum has just been hanging out in their house for a while.

She wanted to offer it to Mr. Gloss to have my engagement ring made, but it was a little to late, as he had already had my perfect ring made. So now we are planning to use it for our wedding bands! I’m so happy to be able to incorporate something of theirs into a ring that I will be able to cherish forever!

Did your grandparents pass anything down to you for your wedding?

Wow - what a special gift! I have goosebumps. You are quite lucky to have a constant reminder of your grandparents & their love as you and Mr. M start your lives together. :)

That is an awesome gift, a bar of platinum, it sounds extreme but it really is so perfect and so cool! I love the significance!

Wow, isn’t that like $1000 worth of platinum? Won’t you have a lot left over after your rings are made still?

that’s incredibly sweet and generous!
My grandfather is a jeweler and picked out set my engagment ring stones (under the direction of my fiance, of course!). Something I know I’ll treasure forever!

That is so amazing! What a beautiful touch. Your wedding band will be both “something old” and “something new!”

That is such a sweet thing of them to do & now in a way they’ll always be with you. I didn’t even know you could buy a bar of platinum, I wonder if it’s something that was possible to do back then but might be too expensive nowadays?

That’s awesome! I don’t know how big the bar is, but if there’s any platinum leftover, perhaps you could save it for your future daughter’s ring (or other female relative)? How cool would it be to say that other members of your family all have rings created from the same piece of platinum?

That’s really sweet of your Nana to give that to you. I think it’s awesome to use it for your bands.

that is too amazingly sweet!

both my fiance and i have rings from our grandparents - and it truly is such a heart-warming feeling. right before mr.v’s (paternal) grandfather passed away, he gave mr.v his wedding ring. he was so honored and excited and all sorts of emotions to have it b/c him and his grandfather were just about as close as a grandson and a grandfather can be - afterall, he was his only grandson. thus, mr.v is the only one left (other than one uncle who is still fairly young) to carry on his last name - something that he is extremely proud of (because of his grandfather) and can’t wait to have a boy of his own someday. (so sweet!). and i have my grandmother’s very first set of rings that she wore when her and my grandpa first married almost 60 years ago! (she has since upgraded to larger - both stone and band sizes, lol - since then). she gave them to me for my graduation this past december - her and my grandpa also gave me their harras (coins) - and i cried like a baby, lol. mr.v had already purchased my e-ring (unbeknownst to me!), so i will not wear my grandmother’s rings as my own (besides, they’re wayyy too tiny for my fingers), BUT we are going to incorporate them somehow into our wedding.

whew! all of that to say that having sentimental stuff handed down from your grandparents is oh so sweet and i cherish them with all my heart!

congrats, miss gloss - your bands are going to be gorgeous!! can’t wait to see ‘em! :D
