Mrs. Deviled Egg's Picture
Mrs. Deviled Egg, Pittsburgh Age and Occupation: 27, Public Relations Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Accounting Engagement Date: December 24, 2007 Wedding Date: May, 2009 Blogging Since: October 21, 2008 Venue: Historic auditorium and meeting hall in one of Pittsburgh's commuter cities About Me: I am obsessed with all things crafty, especially scrapbooking, knitting, jewelry-making & cake decorating. I also love being an aunt, wrapping presents, watching football (Go Steelers!), shopping at yard sales and consignment stores, procrastinating, singing and learning to play the guitar. When it comes to wedding planning, I'm excited about working on DIY projects and finding creative ways to stay under budget. Of course, nothing is more exciting to me than knowing that the wonderful Mr. Deviled Egg will be my husband.
About Mrs. Deviled Egg

I can appreciate how some brides-to-be work hard to find cute vintage and recently retired themed stamps for mailing their save-the-dates and invitations. And I know sometimes the Postal Service sells stamps that go along with the theme of the wedding, making them a perfect fit for the invitation envelopes. I also think Zazzle stamps are so cute, and if they weren’t so expensive, I’d use them in a heartbeat.

In my case, I didn’t get too picky about the stamps and news from the Post Office weighed heavily in my decision to purchase one of the postage options I used.

With a RSVP reply date closely coinciding with the postage rate increase on May 11th, I figured it would just be easier on me and our guests if I used the Forever stamps for our response envelopes.

Sure, they aren’t the prettiest or most unique design currently offered in postage, but knowing that using them would make it more likely my RSVPs would return to me was worth the aesthetic sacrifice. And, I didn’t waste money or have to use an extra stamp to clutter up the small, 4-bar size envelopes.

For Christmas this past year, I received five books of the Wedding Hearts stamps from my FMIL. What a great gift! She told me that she wasn’t sure what I would need for the invitations, but figured they could always be used for bridal shower thank you notes or for whatever else I would need. Lucky for me, the size and weight of our invitations met the requirements, so I was able to utilize my gift stamps.

Our outside envelopes are green, so the Wedding Hearts stamps didn’t end up looking all that bad in the upper right corners.

And after receiving stamps as a gift, I think I may keep this idea in my head for any future bridal showers I attend. I would think any bride would be appreciative of a gift of two or three books of stamps, a nice writing pen and a set of thank you cards.

What factors played into the stamp selection for mailing your wedding stationery?

What a great, unique gift idea!

I’m not too concerned about having to use forever stamps, because hey, the wedding’s IN Philly, so that little Liberty Bell’s actually pretty appropriate! ;-)

That being said, I haven’t even really STARTED invitation designs (eep!) so I don’t know WHAT kinda stamps we’ll be using!

This reminds me…must buy more stamps for thank you notes. Thanks! I used forever stamps on my save the dates, and I plan to use them on my invites too in order to save some money. Most people don’t notice anyway!

I used heart stamps for my save-the-dates, and had my response cards all ready to go with the same stamps. Then, I heard the dreadful news and had to go out and buy 2cent stamps to add to the response cards. It looks hideous (my fiance thinks I’m overreacting) but what can ya do?! The stamps were already on the cards, and I wasn’t about to waste all those stamps.

For the invites, I had one weighed and she said it would cost 79cents to send. Any suggestions how how to do that? 79 (or even 80) cent stamps do not exist.

I love the fact that the USPS now has “forever” stamps. I can’t think of a better
“theme” on my envelopes than that! So what if they’re not pink and lacy? They’re forever! :)

Done and done. There will be no stamp drama coming from me!

I had never thought about finding cute lil corresponding stamps…I don’t think that it’s worth shelling out a TON of money, though…

I really didn’t mind stamps, because people realize stamps are just postage and it’s everything else inside the envelope that should matter! :)

I agree that stamps are just stamps. Truthfully, I never even notice the stamps when I get a wedding invitation and will be using whatever forever stamps are in stock when I send out my wedding invites.

This is TOO funny - I wrote a post on my blog just TODAY about postage options for invites and STDs and how my fiance thinks I’m half crazy for wanting “special” ones!

And I PROMISE that I finished it this morning…LONG before I saw this post!

LOL! Great gift, by the way!

I’m using the “Forever” stamps and it fits because I live on “Bell Street”! My extended family loves word plays so they will find the humor in this and probably discuss that more than the invitations.

Does anyone know if you can purchase stamps with new pricing now? I have a postcard RSVP that are .27 each and it will be going up to .28 in the middle of when they are supposed to be sent back. Id like to get .28 stamps now instead of having to put a .27 and .1 stamp.

That’s a great idea. It’s such a practical gift you know will get used.

Stamps are used to get mail from A to B. Once they arrive at B, they get thrown in the trash.

Anything else is just madness. Good for you for being a sensible bride!

I used the forever stamps on my rsvps also! I agree with MidwestElle — they’re not lacy or frilly, they’re FOREVER. Gotta love that. (Also, I think it’s insane when people pay double the price for a friggen stamp just so they can get their mug on it.)

@Rachel: If you buy stamps from stamps.com you can choose what you want the postage amount to be. You can also mix two stamps (two 42 cent stamps?). That would be perfect since 42cent stamps are about to become obsolete.

I got my stamps from the post office online and did the vintage cars. I wasn’t terribly concerned about the design, but I did think about the upcoming rate change in regards to my RSVP date.

I really really really wanted cute stamps to go on our Save the Dates. When I got to the post office, all they had were the Forever Stamp.

I realized that I don’t have any idea what stamp was used on any mail I receive. Obviously I don’t care what comes on my mail, I don’t think my guests would either. So, Forever it was.

Think of it this way, your marriage will be “forever” anyway so it’s fitting actually! :)

I don’t mind the forever stamps at all. I was thinking that my guests wouldn’t mind or not even notice it at all. I don’t notice the stamps on the invites I receive. So I’m stocking up on forever stamps before May! :)

We used forever stamps on our rsvps too! I couldn’t believe the postage increase for all of us May & June brides during our rsvp period. My mom gave us a bunch of books of forever stamps as a gift, and it was so helpful.

stamps as a gift is a great idea!!

So…I’m kinda embarrased to admit this but we actually picked the green color on our invites to match the wedding stamps you have pictured above. It was the FI’s idea b/c he’d heard me complain about the stamps not matching so when we were in the design process he suggested changing the slightly darker shade to the color of the stamps (we also picked a RSVP envelope in a similar color on which we’ll also use forever stamps).

at first i had wanted cute wedding stamps with hearts or flowers, but since the stamp change is coming sooner than when we’ll send out invites, i’ve accepted using a forever stamp.

My invites were white, cobalt, & caribbean blue; and the only stamp that coordinated at all with it was a 92cent St. John USVI stamp.

Sooo.. I went the Zazzle route (because they were the smallest stamps - didn’t cover up too much of our RSVP postcard) with our monogram on them… I ordered 14 books (7 of 27 cent, 7 of 62 cent) = 280 stamps. Zazzle gives you a discount off each book if you order more than 1, I think. And, I had a coupon for $5 off I found on the web. Paying through ebates gave me 10% cashback. Total for 280 stamps was $201.86. Buying regular stamps would have been $124.60… For $65, it was worth it to me!

We are using the forever stamps for the RSVPs too! I want people to respond by May 1 and I wasn’t sure if they would actually mail them on time to avoid the increase in postage.

When the time comes for me to send out save the dates, invitations, thank you notes, etc. the rate will have already increased. I already purchased 500 Forever stamps in order to save some money. I don’t care about the design as it’s not what’s important to me. What’s important is the invitation inside the envelope! :)

Wedding Invitation Postage

You have thoughtful FMIL. She is impressive! We have many people purchasing our designer wedding invitation postage stamps as gifts, but the buyers are usually from bridesmaids or maids of honor.
