Developing our Invitations

April 8th, 2009 @ 2:05 pm by Mrs. Peep Toe

Last time I gave you guys a sneak peek into our invitations, and now I can say that everyone (well, almost everyone—things take a long time to get to Norway) has received our invites, and despite one mishap* the results are all positive!!

Since I’ve already talked about my bridal blunder in ordering the invites, let’s jump straight into the wording. The one request from Mama Peep was that we include their names on the invite, but since our in-laws are also contributing, we thought it’d be best to include them as well. They aren’t married any longer, so we had to get crafty, which worked well for us since tradition isn’t really our thing. And if I do say so myself, I think it sounds great! (Peep Toe= Last Name)

Papa and Mama Peep Toe
Along with MIL Peep Toe and FIL Peep Toe

Joyfully invite you to celebrate the marriage of

Miss Peep
& Mr. Peep

Saturday, May XX
Two Thousand Nine**
At half past xxxx in the afternoon

The Outdoor Terrace***
Hotel Vitale
San Francisco, California

Reception Immediately Following

**thanks to Mrs. Cupcake’s advice, we removed the ’and’

***Mama Peep thought it was important for people to know the wedding is outside

We also had to make a BIG decision regarding the RSVP card. We’ll be having a sit down dinner and our guests need to choose between two entrees. Papa Peep made some grumbling about avoiding chicken, so even though we haven’t (as in, to this day) had a tasting, we decided to throw caution to the wind and serve beef and fish. We incorporated a little line on the RSVP card and asked people to initial their choice. Out of the few RSVPs we’ve gotten, NO ONE has actually initialed their choice. They’ve Xed their yesses, but they haven’t initialed who wants what. So, a word to the wise: make the initial line big enough so your guests can actually add their initials. D’OH!!

Back to the invites. Once we had the wording picked out, we started developing the design a bit more. We really wanted to take advantage of incorporating a handwritten feel to our invitations. Aren’t these invitations divine?
Developing our Invitations : wedding invitations stationery 1 1

In order to reduce the calligraphy costs of our invites, we decided to only use hand calligraphy for our names, which in turn helped make our invitations look modern, with a touch of classic. Here’s an up-close look at our names and a bit of the invite:

At this point in the process, we needed to add a bit of something to make the invite stand out. These invites from Bella Figura helped get our inspiration flowing.

We’ll admit to loving the small modern heart so much that we had to incorporate something like it—it just felt like us.**** And it fit right in with the rest of our design. We also decided it was worth the extra few cents in postage to use square paper to finish off our design. After a few iterations, we finally had a whole invitation suite:

Going with green writing was a last minute decision made by Mr. Peep, and I couldn’t be happier. As for the details, they were letterpressed onto Crane Lettra 110 lb. cardstock. We love them!!

Up next, I’ll talk about our impossible envelopes and our small (but informative) insert.

So, did you have to be a bit crafty on your invitation wording?

*I accidentally sent our Best Man’s invitation to his old address—his ex-girlfriend’s house. BIG oops. I hope he’ll forgive me before the wedding.
****Now that I know a bit more about design, I know that copying an invitation design is a big no no, but in this case we based our design on the hand lettering, and just used the heart to help inspire us.

Your invites are so yummy! I love the calligraphy font for your names. And, this comes at a really appropriate time, since I’ve just started really focusing on the Bruschetta invitations. Thanks, Miss Peep Toe!

ugh…i had the SAME problem with the initialing….only a handful of people did it right….luckily, if a couple “x’ed” one of each, they’ll be sitting next to each other and they can just switch….i can’t help it if they didn’t do it right!!

These look gorgeous! Great job.

Our invitations were hard because Mr. S’s family is not involved, so we had to be creative so that he wouldn’t feel left out that there was no mention of family for him :( But it worked out well…I can’t wait to post mine!

I had SUCH A TIME figuring out how to get all the information I need from our guests. We are having a plated dinner as well. For the sake of sharing, we finally went with this:

{ } Accept with pleasure { } Decline with regret

We have reserved ____ seats in your honor.
Please indicate the menu choice of each guest attending

Grilled Skirt Steak w/ Parsley Walnut Pesto
Name(s):__________________________

Greek Style Chicken Breast
Name(s):__________________________

Seasonal Vegetarian Entrée
Name(s):__________________________

We had a place to mark for need of a vegtarian option and we found people mistaking it for the place to mark that they were attending. People tend not to really read anything these days.

The invites look great! I think it was very smart to mention the event was outside! If I were a guest I would love the heads up so I could know to spritz on my bug spray (I will always do this even though I’m no longer living in my home state of TX where mosquitos reign), bring a wrap, keep an eye on the weather that day so I could be prepared. I went to a wedding in Massachusetts last summer and they didn’t explain that the reception was outside on a lawn where high heels would sink right into the ground-ugh! Luckily they provided flip flops!

You’re right-the green is really cute!!

To be clear on who’s eating what (and if they’re even coming!) we chose a format that I haven’t seen on other invites:
NAME {}Entree 1 {}Entree 2 {}Regretfully declines to attend
Then we put the entree choices on the back so they know what they’re getting. (It was important to me that they know what the sides are as my mom has an allergy to one of the side dishes!)

They look great! I do think it’s strange that people aren’t checking their food choice! It just seems natural that one would do so…I am not sure! Yours looks pretty obvious to me :)

I LOVE how your invited turned out! FH and I are hoping for a classic yet modern look as well and I think you captured that perfectly :)

@wouldntitbenice: Great suggestion, Thank you!

@Miss Peep Toe: I was one of those people who forgot to initial when FH and I RSVP’d for a wedding last year. I think its b/c people don’t completely read the RSVP card, they see Beef or Fish and check the one they want. After the bride emailed me to see who was having what I will never make that mistake again :-/

@AliCherri1: Haha. Mr. Peeps Aunt and Uncle forgot to mark anything on the card. I emailed them to specifically find out what they wanted- they said one beef and one fish. So even after emailing them I still don’t know who wants what!! I’m just going to have to guess and they can switch it up if they want!
