STDs…

April 8th, 2009 @ 5:22 pm by Mrs. Gloss

There are SO many creative and unique options out there for save the dates now! I fell in love with many before we finally decided on ours.

I saw these on Brooklyn Bride and totally fell in love with them:

STDs... : wedding save the dates Savethe02 They’re from here. (They placed all the relevant info on the back.)

My issue with these is that Mr. Gloss refuses to have e-pics taken. (But I think I could convince him if I really wanted too.) I’m such a sucker for a Polaroid picture!

STDs... : wedding save the dates Savethe03

We could have done something like this with super cute baby pics and MOO cards!
They’re from here. And as a bonus, no e-pics would need to be taken.

And then there is always the idea that everything should be perfectly coordinated:

STDs... : wedding save the dates Savethe04
But I had no idea what our final invitation suite would end up looking like at that point in the planning process. And even if I had, it probably would have changed by now! Anyway, the STD is allowed to be way more fun than the actual invite, right?

What do you guys think? Did your save the date coordinate with your invitation suite?

I also fell in love with option #2! Me and my fiancee put our on spin on, but they basically look like that! We sent them out last week and everyone loves them so far! :)
So we took the informal approach with the STD and the actual invites will still be fun, but more formal of course!

I absolutely adore the first one, it’s so cute, simple yet what a clever idea! I also love the second one, it’s adorable. It’ll be so hard to decide which style we will want our STD to look like!

I love both!! Either one is fun AND cute!! I personally like things to be all coordinated but serisouly it’s no big deal! Most people don’t have matching STD’s. Do whatever you want!!!!!

I think the std should be fun! Leave the coordination for the invites!

So cute!

If the Mr. is against E photos, I saw #2 is the way to go :)

I love #1 & 2…I think STDs should be fun, so don’t stress about matching or e pics!

That first one is one of my favorite STD inspirations! The second idea with moo cards is adorable! Our STD’s won’t coordinate perfectly with our invitations. We may use similar colors, but definitely not a complete match.

Go with the fun STDs, but pick something that matches your theme. I sooooo regret my impulse-STD-order now!

They are all really cute. I would suggest picking something fun, but that has some connection to what you think your formal invitations will look like. For instance, is there a color that could link the two invitations, or a font? Just some detail so there’s some cohesion between the two.

Really cute options. I had soo many ideas when we started. In the end, I decided that it’s too much work to come up with an entire wedding suite if you are DIYing. We’re using the same papers because it’s cheaper. So they’ll be similar colors, but our boarding pass STDs are definitely going to be their own thing as compared with everything else.

I’m biased, because I’ve already done this. But our STDs are way more fun than our formal invitations will be. We needed to drum up excitement so more OOTs would save up for a trip to our SoCal wedding.

Can’t wait to see what you do… or did.

I really like the fun STDs but I really look at the STD as the first impression your guests will have of your wedding. While we are intending for our wedding to be a party, it will be a nice party and I am afraid if I make the STDs to casual, people will get the wrong idea. Ours are incorporating pictures, but using the wedding colors and fonts to tie everything together.

My suggestion, think about the feeling you want for the wedding and try to pick a STD that helps give people that feeling.

to echo what Lindz701 said above, STDs really give your guests the first impression of the wedding!!

so… my fiance and i actually did a save the date VIDEO! we wanted to do something really different and fun. we worked with Norris Films (www.norrisfilms.com) who was just amazing.

our guests loved it!!! :) do you girls know of anyone who did it too??

a coordinated STD / invite suite means no changing yr mind between the engagement and the wedding though!

something to consider!

I definitely agree that SaveTheDates are allowed to be more fun than the actual invites. They definitely allow more design freedom which is why the FI is taking over the design of them. =D
I’m hoping they will have certain elements from the invites I designed. But 95% sure they probably are not going to look like it!

I love the one with the baby pictures! I don’t think the std cards need to match the invites…but I’m not really into having everything match. :) You should do what feels most like you and Mr. Gloss!

We’re thinking MOO cards too for ours. I don’t know when we’re doing our e pics but I know I want to get the STDs out by the end of next month so hopefully before then. But if we do the baby pic one we won’t have to worry about that….hmmm

I love your inspiration! :) Our invites did end up matching the save the dates, but we weren’t sure if it was going to end up that way or not.
