About Mrs. Mascara

A Very Helpful Fiance

April 9th, 2009 @ 6:30 pm by Mrs. Mascara

When we first started planning our wedding, my dear fiance was less than interested. In fact, he even surprised himself with how much he didn’t care about anything related to the wedding (besides the fact that we were getting married, of course!). It was a little frustrating, to say the least. I’d ask a question about the reception site, colors, guest list, ANYTHING, and he would respond with, “whatever you want to do,” or, “I don’t care,” or some other generic statement that didn’t help me at all. This went on for a month or two before I couldn’t take it anymore. I am not really a crier, but on a trip back from the UP, the tears came out. I told him that I wanted his opinion on things, whether it was the same as mine or not. He felt bad for making me feel like he didn’t care, and said he’d try to get more involved in the wedding stuff. And has he ever!

He has helped me book vendors. I give him a phone number, the he calls and gets quotes. We decide together which vendor to go with, and then he calls and takes care of it. He researched and booked our honeymoon. I am ever so grateful for this one! Planning trips overwhelms me a bit because there are so many options! He pretends to care about things that no guy should ever care about. Flower girl dresses, centerpieces, you name it, he knows what we’re doing. He comes with me on all of the wedding shopping trips. Want to know where to look for cake pedestals? He is your guy.

He has helped me with the crafty projects. He manned the paper cutter while we made our save the dates. He helped me make our mossy initials. And his latest project was… bathroom signs! Check them out!

A Very Helpful Fiance : wedding decor diy reception Bathroo03 He came up with these all by himself, with the exception of the paint colors and the little dots, which were my contributions. Aren’t they cute?

I’m so glad I’m marrying him. And not just because he’s good with a saw.

Does anyone else have a very helpful fiance when it comes to wedding planning? Was he always that way, or not so much at first?

Oh my goodness, Mr. Q has done so much of the work in planning the wedding. I obsess for hours over things like flowers, decorations, shoes, etc. while he is the one actually GETTING STUFF DONE. Thank God for that!

Aw! I love it! My FI has just recently started to get interested in all things wedding after 6 months of “I don’t care” or “whatever you want”! It was such a relief that he’s actually got an opinion, right??

First off- awesome signs!

My FI cares a lot about things! I was surprised because I didn’t think he would but we had an actual conversation with opinions ad everything- about favors. And not just which ones but what they should look like and how we should present them. I was floored!

My fiance has been very helpful right from the begining, we have very similar taste which has made the planning a lot easier! I usually do the research, then he helps me pick. Since I’m not in the same state as him (or our venue!) it has been great that he is there.

My fiance also became helpful when I couldn’t take it anymore and cried at him. I wish he was handy with a saw though, those signs are soo awesome!!! I think you should have an etsy shop, I would buy them!!

I told FI that he is using his design degree to design the invitations and now he is asking about flowers and themes and what not. I love FI!

I’m so glad to read that he jumped in and helped after you told how you felt! Boyfriend gave me the “All I care about is good music and an open bar”… only to be VERY opinionated about a LOT of things (Location, possible dates, etc.). sigh… I guess I should be glad he’s interested, even if it means I don’t get to call all the shots!

Those are really cute! He’s just as crafty as you are Miss M. That’s great that he came up with this all by himself :) I think Mr. Beagle will start getting more involved as we get closer to our date and we’re at a point where we aren’t just “planning” anymore.. we’re “doing”.

Yup, Mr. B has definitely taken charge of certain aspects of the wedding — and I love your little signs (especially since I’ll have to make some myself soon, too!).

Yes! My FI has been surprisingly helpful. I didn’t think he would have an opinion on things like flowers, but I came home one day to find a ripped out page of a bridal magazine with a bouquet on it. I knew I wasn’t the one who ripped it out - so I said, “What’s this?” “Oh, those are some flowers I really like” he says. I was speechless.

It’s really nice having him involved, but sometimes I wish he didn’t care so much (only when we disagree - like when he wants to invite 300 people). We have similar taste, so that helps.

Aw! He’s a keeper! I wish my FI is crafty cause then he would be so helpful! But unfortunately, he’s not…however, he has been good with calling and booking vendors. That saves me so much trouble! I call people for a living and I’d rather not be bothered with it on my spare time. Oh, and he also helps with funding some of my projects. Since he can’t help put stuff together, at least he’s helping other ways he can!

Um, you are so lucky!! Mr. CC has no opinion until I’ve gone full speed ahead on something and he decides he hates it!
Your signs are adorable!

My FI made the centerpieces. I kind of took over a lot, but if it gets to be too much, I’ll ask for some help. Oh and FI is making my fascinator! (He is uber talented!)

*high five* My FH has been AWESOME with planning! He booked our church AND venue and has had a hand in every little detail- with the exception of my wedding dress & accessories! It’s such a relief to have great FH’s isn’t it? :-)
