Adding Colour

April 9th, 2009 @ 11:24 am by Mrs. Beagle

The criteria for our wedding colors were that they were to be 1) earth tones, and 2) fall-ish. Now I know most people think reds and oranges, but I interpreted that to mean cool colors in the dark spectrum:

And I now present the colour palette: (Yes, that’s colour not color)

This website is very entertaining. What a wonderful way to compare how colors will look against one another. I originally wanted to incorporate more browns into the palette, but as I started working on my list of wedding projects, the brown was looking more and more bland. I had thought about incorporating greens into the palette, but I really love the way the purples and blues blend together. Another great place to find color inspiration is at your local fabric store. I frequent this one almost once a week (I love fabric and have a rapidly growing stash of it). My first stop was the ribbon aisle. I fell in love with the purple and blue ribbon (shown in the below photos). After I found the perfect ribbon, I took the spools over to the fabric section to find complementary colors. I purchased fabric in varying shades and textures of blues, purple, brown, and ivory. Even if you don’t need to purchase any fabric, it’s great to get a visual of how colors will look against one another. What will I be using the fabric and ribbon for? That’s a secret. :) Here are some photos of the colors in action:

Wow, those colors go beautifully together. I can’t wait to see what you’re going to make from the materials.

Our wedding is being held at a garden with lots of peacocks, so I think we’re going with colors from the peacock feathers (teal, sapphire, gold, etc.).

so pretty….our color scheme was based on our center pieces and our favorite colors. Getting married at a zoo, I researched online and found a San Diego bride who had Hungry Hungry Hippos center pieces. We decided to do that as well on alternating tables so we went with bright colors - hot pink (my fav), orange (FI’s fav) and yellow. We’re getting married in the fall (Sept) but are hoping our guests will be excited by the fun whimsical color scheme!

I love when color becomes tactile - great idea to go color hunting in a fabric store!

How fun!!!! I LOVE your colors! Our reception is at a rustic lodge on a lake in upstate new york in september, so we went with fall colors, but with a purpose - I went to Syracuse U, my fiance went to Ohio State, so we are using burnt orange and burgundy to represent our two universities (both have die hard alumi!!!) with chocolate brown and cream accents. I cant wait to see what the ribbon and fabric are for!!

Great color choice, can’t wait to see how they all come together in your design. We’re getting married on the beach, so our colors are inspired by the water and the sand.

I have always heard that complimentary colors come from the opposite side of the colour wheel so maybe that will help you decide…Love the blues. that is what we are using along with green.

I love that you’re using several colors…my colors were spring in the city and cherry blossom-inspired…light pink, silver, chocolate brown, ivory, navy blue, and apple green. I can’t wait to see how it comes out.

The Canadian in me rejoices at that pesky little “u” in colour. Nice colour scheme! :)

I saw a Ralph Lauren paint sample pamphlet when I was at Lowes one day with my FI who was totally absorbed into the drill bit aisle. I knew right then that I had to have that array of colors. :)

I knew I wanted to incorporate orange in our colors because the FI’s favorite team’s colors are orange and purple. I didn’t want to make it too obvious that we were using team colors so I search around and found this cake: http://dlsweddingplanner.files.wordpress.com/2008/03/aquabrownorangecake.jpg

I just fell in love with the colors and our wedding colors were born: aqua, orange, brown and white.

It’s not very fall-ish, but it is SO us!

I love that colour palate! We are also doing a fall-ish wedding and had the same feelings regarding colors. So our colors are dark and medium blue, violet and plum and silver… very close! I think it is a season appropriate but slightly different take on the classic fall wedding (i.e. reds, oranges and yellow… which are also very beautiful just not me).
