About Mrs. Peep Toe

Alright ladies, I am here to continue to provide some eco-friendly options for your wedding. I have to start off by saying that the green world is confusing, at best. And I am well aware that the Peeps’ wedding will have an impact on the environment. My goal here is just to throw out a few options that the Mr. and I have tried to incorporate to reduce that impact. (And yes, we could always be better, do more, use less, but we are modern people living in a consumerist world just trying to put one foot in front of the other). And just to give myself a bit of street cred—I do have a Master’s in Environmental Policy and I did spend a year working on myfootprint.org. But, there will be more on that later.

Oh, and Mr. Peeps—stop reading now, or no surprises for you!

Now that that is out of the way, let’s talk about spiffing up the Mister’s outfit on the big day. The mister is cufflink-less, so I thought that a memorable and lasting gift to give him on his big day would be the ever important—drum roll—pair of cuff links. This is not an entirely new idea, but I am hoping my options are a bit out of the ordinary, and a bit more eco-chic.

Before I start, here are two great websites to find some fabulously fun and cool eco-gifts: green with envy and eco-artware.

First up, we have recycled Wine Barrel Cuff links. Have I mentioned to the hive yet that Mr. Peeps has left the deliciously tasting olive oil world to go back to the wine industry? That’s right—our wine ’closet’ is again filling up quickly!

Obviously these are pertinent to Mr. Peep’s profession, and even one of our wedding colors, so they’re a good all-around choice.

Option #2: A bit of SF memorabilia. And the great part about these is that the Muni line runs next to the hotel we’re getting married at, so they’re very fitting, if I do say so myself. But they’re not all that attractive. Note to the hive—these are also available for other major cities!!

Option #3: These aren’t necessarily eco, but these cuff links are on Etsy, in our wedding colors, and are at a fabulous price. And don’t you think they match our invites??

And finally, the option that is the most expensive, but oh-so-cool. They’re Dodger Stadium cuff links!!! Have I mentioned that I am HUGE Dodger fan, and over the years I have converted Mr. PT to one as well. He’s even going down to LA-LA Land to go to a Dodger game for his bachelor party!!! Unfortunately, the Dodger ones are blue, so they don’t actually match our wedding colors. But my FMIL thought they’d be an awesome gift and conversation starter.

So hive, how best do you think I should add a bit of eco-chicness to the Mister’s outfit?

And finally, Did anyone get their Dad a gift on their big day!?? Papa Peep’s b-day is a week before the wedding, so I am thinking of gifting him this at the rehearsal—he’s the reason I am a Dodger fan, and being an accountant, he loves a good pen:

What do you think? What are you gifting your Mister? Do you have any other eco-friendly options to share with the hive?

I got my fiance the Yankee Stadium cufflinks. I tried to keep it a secret, but he found out. :-) He’s VERY excited. We live in Red Sox Nation so….he gets a lot of teasing for being a Yankee fan.

OH - and the Yankee cufflinks are royal blue, and our wedding colors are pewter and blush. They don’t match at all, but it’s more important that they represent him and not the colors I chose. :-)

The stadium cufflinks are so so so cool! A bit of non-color scheme-ness won’t hurt a thing! Such a great idea!

I am promptly stealing the Dad pen idea for my Dad’s May b-day!!

I am torn between one and three, but then I also like getting him 3 and four. This is difficult. I think he would really like that dodgers pen too, hmm.. good luck with this one!

I love them all! Ack, how to choose? Really, get what you think he will be happy to wear any other time cufflinks are needed. There is a lot of great symoblism in each one so it’s hard for me to choose.

Love the cufflink choices…all of them! I bought Mr. Quiche Wrigley Field cufflinks for Christmas 2 years ago - he loved them!

Miss Peep Toe - do you know of a centralized forum for brides that want to discuss ways to make their wedding more environmentally friendly? There are a great number of good ideas floating around the net, but it seems like they’re scattered, for the most part…

I think it’d be awesome if there was some sort of forum for brides who want to make their wedding look awesome, yet with as small a footprint as possible.

The creativity on weddingbee ROCKS - everyone here always comes up with awesome and unique solutions to every other aspect of a wedding. Maybe there’s a similar thing on another site specifically geared towards being environmentally conscious?

@Miss Rye Bread: RB- I mentioned a couple in a post I had awhile back- Portovert is ok. As is the Eco-Chic Weddings Blog. But honestly, I’ve never found anything that really speaks to me as a modern Bride. I know that a lot of weddings showcase ‘green’ weddings (like Martha) but I find that they don’t provide enough of what I want. I have some more ideas up my sleeve so hopefully that will help.

First shame for being a dodger fan living in SF. Just kidding I think the stadium cufflinks are awesome why not get him the wine barrel ones for the ceremony and then he could change into the dodger ones sounds kinda silly but us girls change things for the reeption.

Miss Peep, are doing a great service by making us aware of great eco vendors out there! I totally hear what you’re saying — I don’t think it’s necessarily a huge competition about who is greener than who, or if you’re being the most green person on the planet, but rather, that we open up a discussion and think about where the things we buy comes from and originates, and what those people are doing to make this world a better place. If you want to go live in a cave and forage for your own food and go everywhere on foot, then I applaud you! But we’re not all like that. But, just because I don’t want to live in a cave, does that mean I can’t make better and greener choices in the life that I do live, now? Making small changes in our lives can make a huge impact, and thank you for making us more aware that we can do lots of little things to green up our weddings!

I got Mr. B the Boston subway token cufflinks! (I went to grad school up there and we both LOVE the city.) And I wish Daddy Bruschetta liked cufflinks and/or didn’t lose pens oh-so easily, because he’s SUCH a baseball fan, but the cute gift options you mentioned above won’t obviously work for him!
