I Don’t Like White Sandals*…

April 9th, 2009 @ 1:11 pm by Mrs. Quiche

… so I bought silver shoes for the wedding. Last July. And apparently, I don’t like silver sandals, either.

Touch-Ups “Marcella”

I liked them at first, but after trying them on with my dress again over the weekend, I just wasn’t crazy about them. Maybe it’s the toe thing? I’m not sure. Luckily, I ordered them from Zappos and have 365 days to return them.

There is just something about white and silver sandals that don’t agree with me. Especially those fitting into a very particular demographic:

Wedge (or wide heel, but not too wide)

  • 1″ - 2″ heel
  • Dainty-ish
  • Not gladiators

Those that do fit this description tend to have either a black or cork heel *shudder* or are too bulky. Plus, my dress is ivory, and ivory shoes are out of the question (unless they’re Manolo Sedarabys, which are also, unfortunately, out of the question :( ).

Why the black heel?

I think I just threw up a little in my mouth.

Still not right!

I’d love to jump on the fun, colored shoe bandwagon that so many bees have ridden before me, but my dress just touches the ground, and you can definitely see my shoes due to the fact that there isn’t any “fluff” to it.

So, I’m really not sure what the point of this post is. Perhaps just to say that I am TIRED of Zappos, Endless, and Piperlime. And our wedding is 3 weeks away. I’m thinking of ordering a basic wedge flip-flop and dressing them up with a vintage rhinestone clip (or something?). If I had it my way (and perhaps wasn’t having a Jamaican wedding), I’d wear these:

I can’t quit you, Uggs!

All images from Zappos

Is anyone else having the same ridiculous (and petty) problem that I’m having? Help!

* I don’t like white/silver sandals for me, not you. Yours are lovely. :)

Honey, I am so right there with ya. I have bought and returned almost 10 pairs of shoes!! Ridiculous. Try shopstyle.com. I like the layout of their site.

OMG… I am having so much trouble finding wedding shoes! I thought I was doing good by starting early, but I still haven’t found the right pair after four months of continuous searching :(

Hmm. It looks like a lot of the shoes you are looking at are more casual, with a cork/plastic/wood bottom. What about mules or some type of low heel, or maybe getting a slightly more formal shoe that doesn’t have something like a cork bottom?

*Raises and waves both hands* YES! I have not been able to find the right shoes 4eva and it was getting ridiculous. And in fact, when I read one of your posts about ordering and returning like 10 different pairs to Zappos, I knew I didn’t want to be going through that, so I was looking in stores weekly for shoes. I finally bit the bullet and bought a pair that I think/hope will be right. I don’t love them, but they fit a number of my criteria without making me shudder.

Oh yeah. Right there with you. I’m also getting married outdoors and desperately looking for a non-clunky wedge sandal. Cork heels are the devil!

If you’ve been on Endless you probably spotted the Colorifics Grace sandal in silver, but I thought I’d suggest looking at it anyway. I’m probably going to order a pair in the next day or two to see if they might work!

Does it have to be a sandal? I would recommend trying Lord & Taylor. They have some awesome evening shoes in sliver/ champagne/ etc. Beautiful shoes!

Good Luck!

Oh Miss Quiche. I love you. I struggled with the same thing, and ultimately bid adieu to the sandal part, and stopped worrying about how wide the heel was. I may sink into the grass at my wedding, but the ceremony is on a slate terrace, and I got to stop shoe hunting.

They’re not realllly gladiators… but the heel is pretty low too.

Good luck!

You crack me up, Quiche!

Yeah, same thing here. Gauzy simple dress=can’t do bold shoes. I tried to ride the color-shoe-wagon and fell off. I purchased some aqua ones with a poof, then realized I looked like a clown princess. Ultimately, I got some Champagne-colored strappy sandal-heels.

So how about Champagne-colored ones? They’re not as bada-bing as silver, not as prom as white, and can be vintage-y. Thoughts?

@Miss Burgundy: I feel like I’ve search every combination of this, and am just coming up empty handed!

@Miss Peep Toe: Thanks Peep!

@ErinMarguerite: I hear ya!

I’ve now expanded my search to include blush shades as well. Wish me luck!

I agree, the black and cork wedge look just isn’t right for most wedding dresses. It’s got to be the right one I think for something like that, but even then, just don’t know about it. I take it you are getting married outside? Are you not a stiletto kind of girl? I just saw another Bee post about how she was putting some plug things on her shoes so you don’t fall into the ground.

I bought the Tami from Colorful Creations it’s a white sandal with no wedge, and has a little bling too - http://www.shoebuy.com/colorful-creations-tami-71130/170376.

The shoes I ended up wearing were the Benjamin Adams Renee, an ivory flat (also comes in white) - http://weddings.theknot.com/Bridal-Accessories/Benjamin-Adams_Shoes_Closed-toe-Styles_Low-Heels—Flats_43095/detailview.aspx?type=21&id=43095&src=seemore.

If you want to borrow either pair and happen to be a size 11, I can help out, for either Miss Quiche or anyone else :)

I don’t like the different colored bottoms of shoes, either. I mentioned that to FI, then bought a pair that has a faux wood bottom, and pointed out that I shouldn’t use them :(

I did get a lot of good tips for shopping from your comments!

dude, I’m totally with you on the whole white heeled sandals thing.
black wedges for white sandals? what were they smoking?

I hate to say this, but I don’t think a pretty white heeled sandal exists!

Have you thought about peep toes? or flats? what about this?

If you decide to go the flip-flop route, these are REALLY comfortable! http://www.rainbowsandals.com/ImageViewer.asp?imagename=401altsn-WHITe-big
I know they have the grey, but at least it isn’t black :)

Okay, so, hear me out here - I don’t understand why brides don’t just opt to buy dance-shoes (say, ballroom?) They’re made for comfort and they look great! If you get a “crappy” company like ‘Very Fine’ or ‘DSOL’ they’ll run you around $20-50 and they’ll be the most comfy pair of shoes you’ll ever wear. Try http://www.ballroomdancingshoe.com. They even have a “wedding shoes” line.

Try Jack Rodgers! They have one color, I think called platinum, that is between a gold and a silver and looks beautiful on all skin tones. They are casual but also refined, and have a small (but sturdy) heel. Jackie O wore them, so what could be better? They are about $80 usually but you’ll wear them forever, I promise.

My dress is ivory with silver rhinestones. I was also thinking about the silver sandles. I have tried about 6 pairs so far but I have until August to make up my mind. Shoes don’t have to match your dress, they shoudl be an accent to your outfit. I see tons of suggestions out there. I’m going to check them out too!!

Are your feet big? Because I put my big feet into those white sandals and BLEH…vomit. I was having the same problem of trying to find white/silver/ivory and said screw it. If you see my beautiful blue heels under the dress as I’m walking, well, they’re pretty and so what!

I think “dainty” and “wedge” is going to be a very difficult combination… especially when you add in “white”! Could you do a 1″ kitten heel? If so, I’m loving the JCrew Faye sandals in silver or gold. They’re $150 but there are always JCrew coupons floating around. http://www.jcrew.com/AST/Browse/WomenBrowse/Women_Shop_By_Category/shoes/heels/PRDOVR~11245/11245.jsp

Those J Crew shoes jgsg mentioned are SUPER comfortable. There’s a local store that sells all kinds of J Crew catalog returns for DEEP discounts and they always have all the best J Crew shoes. Each pair of J Crew shoes they sell costs under $75 so it’s a great place for a girl with champagne taste but a kool aid budget! Good luck Quiche!

Oh God, I’m having the same problem. Flowy ethereal dress with silver accents for an entirely outdoor wedding. I want to punch whoever invented cork heels in the face. I thought I’d found my answer in these shoes. 2″ DELICATE silver wedge heel and dainty ankle strap but, whoa is me, they are for skinny feet only. Had to return them to Zappos. If you have narrow feet, this is your shoe.
