Mrs. Taffy's Picture
Mrs. Taffy, Ann Arbor Age and Occupation: 28, Color and Materials Designer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Automotive Designer Engagement Date: May 9, 2008 Wedding Date: May 2009 Blogging Since: September 14, 2008 Venue: University of Michigan Union About Me: I’m a girl who is crazy about Mr. Taffy, sewing, dancing, almost all types of sweets, and our cute pet canaries. I dislike touching fuzzy fabric of any kind, eating somewhat squishy food, and Michigan winters. Mr. Taffy and I are having a blast planning our Ann Arbor wedding, and cannot wait to share our day with friends and family.
About Mrs. Taffy

Mr. Taffy is technically in charge of all things music for our wedding. He is doing a great job, but we have really been stuck on ceremony music, especially the song for the processional! Lately, when I’m blogging or working on wedding projects on the computer, I have been listening to tracks from the Beatles Anthology. Two days ago, as I was listening, it hit me: the perfect song for our processional had been right under our noses the entire time!

I mean, come on! How could I have been listening to this song, one of my absolute favorites, over and over the last few months and not see how fitting it was for our wedding? Maybe I wasn’t paying attention after having given the responsibility to Mr. Taffy. Although our music will be instrumental, I love knowing how cute the lyrics are:

There were bells on the hill
But I never heard them ringing,
No, I never heard them at all
‘Til there was you.

There were birds in the sky
But I never saw them winging
No, I never saw them at all
‘Til there was you.

This song is originally from the Music Man, but we love the Beatles rendition and would like to model it after that. The tempo is really fun and it makes me want to skip down the aisle! ;)

Speaking of which, our aisle is very short—around 38 feet. We have six bridesmaids… with such a short aisle, should we just use “Till There Was You” as our only processional song, or use two different songs? The song is on the short side, which could be an issue.

My cousin lovingly agreed to play piano for our ceremony, and we are thrilled that she will be a part of our day. We will be meeting with her in a week to go over our preferences, so I will be sure to ask her opinion then, but would love some feedback from the hive as well!

Did your ceremony music jump out at you from seemingly nowhere?

I’m also going to be walking down the aisle to the Beatles. My fiance has requested “Something” - not sure if we will use one song or two. I’m also hoping to use “I’ve Just Seen a Face” as our recessional.

Such a cute idea! I love the Beatles, but you’re right: I never made the connection between this cover and a great potential wedding song!

“All you need is Love” will be playing when we and the bridal party is announced! I wanted it to be our recessional, but I don’t think our Jamaican Mento band will know how to play it :/

My bridesmaids will be walking down the aisle to What a Wonderful world, but I will be walking to Blackbird on acoustic guitar.

This such a fabulous rendition. I love it and everything Beatles! My song definitely jumped out. I had downloaded some random music I wanted to hear when I heard Leona Lewis’ rendition of The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face I stopped breathing because it was so moving. Done and done. We used that for the maids march and i couldn’t help but used a traditional Here comes the Bride. We had Leona fade out (our DJ friend manned the controls) and then shut the doors and started my music. BUT you could very easily use Til There Was You for the shabang. It’s so sweet!!

I do love the song, but it always reminds me of The Wedding Singer. I guess there are worse associations, considering that in this case, it’s a little old lady learning to sing for her 50th anniversary.

But you can never go wrong with the Beatles!

i love how paul sings that. you definitely need more than one song though, unless you want a super speedy processional! save that special song for your entrance :)

@Mrs. Kiwi: Sure! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uy3WqQxrpVY

@stringerb3: Something would be lovely!

@AliCherri1: I know, I love it so much!

@Miss Quiche: That will be an awesome song to be “introduced” by!

@irishgirl: I love Blackbird. I sing it to my canaries sometimes… if they are in the right mood, they will chirp along!

@MaPo: I wish ours had come to us that easily! ;) We are still working on the rest…
@Jo: I don’t remember that, it has been so long since I have seen it! I should check it out…

@kpoe: You are right, that would be cutting it close.

@Lindsay: That’s awesome! Our first song is going to be Al Green’s cover of I want to hold your hand… it is so cute and fun to dance to! One of my favorite cover songs ever.
It’s this, but without the intro:

I love that song! My g’pa (huge musical fan) used to twirl us around the room while he sang that song, which he hasn’t done in ages. And he sings it to my g’ma. It makes me tear up!

We too are doing Beatles, I’ll be walking down to “I will”. One of his best friends will be playing the acoustic guitar, and one of my best friends will sing me down. We actually are doing an all Beatles ceremony, our recessional will be Two of Us. YAY Beatles!

OMG I flove this song too. I was torn between “Till There Was You” and “All You Need Is Love” for our recessional song after The Kiss. We decided on “All You Need Is Love” but we used “Till There Was You” as the music while we cut the cake at the reception. We received a lot of compliments for our unusual but fitting music choices.

That is a great song.
We used “In my Life” for the possessional and we used “Here comes the sun” for the recessional.

It’s such a sweet song. I considered it for a while for our own wedding but I just kept thinking of the Wedding Singer and didn’t want to always think of the movie when I thought of my wedding. Although it’s interesting how once you associate a song with an event that event takes over the song. We danced to one song for our first dance, but the song I associate with my wedding is the one the videographer used for our video. It’s not even a love song, but when I hear it I think of the wedding even though it was even played there.

Love, love, love the idea. My husband and I are Broadway fiends, so we played this song during cocktail hour along with several others from our favorite shows (we also used “Love Changes Everything” from Aspects of Love and “You Are My Home” from Scarlet Pimpernel during our ceremony). I’d definitely recommend choosing a different song for the rest of the bridal party’s procession, and saving this one for that moment when everyone turns to see you. Best wishes!
