When Mr. Cookie and I were in the throes of our long distance relationship — I was living in D.C. and Mr. Cookie was living in Denver — we would send each other mixed tapes. As I walked home from the Metro every evening, I always had my mixed tape playlist blaring on my iPod. One song that I listened to over and over again was Nora Jones’, “Come Away With Me”. There was something about the lyrics that really spoke to our relationship, and when Mr. Cookie and I were compiling our wedding playlist, we thought it would be the perfect song for our last dance. But more, the lyrics of the song summed up our wedding day.

I titled our wedding recaps “Love Made Simple” because it was the simple things on our wedding day that made visible the deep love that Mr. Cookie and I share…
A teary-eyed Mr. Cookie seeing his blushing bride for the first time
Me, through a crackling voice and tears of joy, reciting my vows to Mr. Cookie promising to never stop loving him. But with the tears, there was laughter.
And there we were on a beautiful, cloudy day…
… kissing on a mountaintop.
Together in fields where the yellow grass grows knee-high
We were blessed on this, our wedding day, to be surrounded by our loved ones…
… wishing us a happy life together.

Of course, there were shenanigans…

… and there was dancing.
Lots and lots of dancing!
After most of the guests had retired for the evening and the music of our last dance dissipated, away into the night we went — together and safe in each other’s arms as husband and wife.
And for all the months of planning, it’s a shame how fast the day goes. Really, it’s just plain unfair. If there was one piece of advice I could impart onto you, dear Weddingbee reader, it would be this: be present to the day and have fun. Let the stress and fuss of planning melt away. Don’t worry if it’s going to rain or if your mascara runs from the tears. Selfishly dance with your new husband the entire evening, and steal as many kisses as possible…
… because your love and laughter will be contagious, and it will infect those around you.
Okay, now I am crying. I am going to swallow this lump in my throat and try to finish…
So, that’s it. The end of the Cookies’ wedding recap. As for me, I not going anywhere. I just can’t drag myself away from Weddingbee. I’m too addicted. I’ll be buzzing around the hive here and there, popping in now and again with a post.
But before I finish this post, I want to thank you for letting me share our wedding day with you. Truly, the warmth and support of this community has been mind-blowing. I only hope that I have repaid your kindness with as much inspiration as you have given to me.
And so, I raise my glass to you, dear brides-to-be. May your wedding be filled with laughter, tears, and nothing but love!
