About Mrs. Mascara

Motherofthebridestyle.

April 9th, 2009 @ 12:44 pm by Mrs. Mascara

You may have heard of groomstyle, but this is motherofthebridestyle…

I hate to brag, but my mom is a pretty cute little lady. She is short (like 5’1″) and skinny, and I have always been jealous of her for that (somehow, I got stuck with the taller and wider genes…no fair!). That being said, my mom is way too young, hip, and beautiful to be stuck in one of those stereotypical mother-of-the-bride dresses!

Motherofthebridestyle. : wedding dress N125643

While she and my sisters were in town a while back, she tried on this dress from David’s Bridal and we all agreed that it was a contender for her wedding day attire.

Motherofthebridestyle. : wedding dress Pam Since there are essentially ZERO malls in the UP, she hadn’t found any other possible dresses when I asked her about it last month. I told her she should just order the dress from DB, but she didn’t seem completely happy with her choice. I had seen some cute dresses at Ann Taylor in their Celebrations collection, so I told her to look online. She did, and she fell in love with this gorgeous dress in pistachio (the green color on the right). Sorry for the poor picture quality!

Motherofthebridestyle. : wedding dress Pam2

I think it’s the perfect color to accent the rest of our bridal party. Ultimately, she decided that this second dress was more “her”, and ordered it (using a coupon of course… I had to get my thriftiness from someone)! It came in recently and she loves it! That’s one more wedding-related task taken care of!

Motherofthegroomstyle will be coming up soon, but it will have to wait until next week, since my FMIL and I will be searching for the perfect dress for her this weekend!

Did anyone else help their moms pick out their dresses for the wedding? Where did you look?

You and Mama Mascara have the same smiley eyes! :-) My petite mother didn’t want a short gown, but we found a modest BM dress that’s long, but won’t overwhelm her (similarly svelte!) figure. ;-)

I wonder what my mom will wear to my wedding. My sister’s wedding was a little informal but the guys, my dad and my step-dad all wore really nice tuxes. My mom wore something a little too casual I think. I have no idea how to address her wearing something a little more dressy when it comes time for mine. I dread that topic. Also, my bf’s mom is in her early 60’s and hasn’t cut her hair in 30 years, doesn’t really care about her clothes and I doubt she’ll want to get all dressed up either. *sigh*

Mom got her dress at Nordstroms. She said that all the Mother of the Bride dresses she saw looked like Grandmother of the Bride dresses.

I love this! How cute your mom is! I did help my mom pick out her dress. Actually, Im the one who picked it (and, ironically, she is the one who grabbed my Amsale off the rack and said “will you PLEASE try this on?” and I bought it!! So we picked eachothers dresses. :-D) It was the first one she tried on and she bought it! She is adorable, tall, skinny, blonde hair and green eyes (I got the italian genes…tan skin, brown hair, brown eyes.) She is wearing chocolate brown to mesh with our wedding party. she puts it on and just glows. Hers is also floor length, and the top is a lacy shimmery cap sleeve, while the skirt is a Line silk organza (matches my dress material)

My mom just bought her dress and I think it’s more beautiful than my wedding gown. Um, I’m not anal, but really– a delicate situation to be in!

Those dresses are so cute. My Mom still hasn’t decided yet!!! I think it is nice you are shopping with FMIL? Should I do that? Do most brides?

I have that dress in the blue color shown and love it. My mom hasn’t decided yet, but much like the UP shopping options my mom doesn’t really have much of a selection in her area. She tends to pick dresses with oversized jackets b/c she thinks they hide the extra pounds. So my goal is to help her find something that both fits and flatters her. I’m actually more excited about helping her look beautiful than myself!

I agree, some of the M.O.Bride dresses are terrible. My mom’s short and petite like yours, so a little knee length dress could be awesome. I’m heading to Michigan next month (I’m a Michigander, too, and I love the U.P.), so maybe Mom and I will do some shopping then.

I did! And it was so much fun. We hit up the nicer metropolitan bridal salons together and found a perfectly elegant, hip, non-matronly silk cocktail dress that she luuuurves. Hooray for hip mamas! I don’t mean to brag either, but I have one too:-)

Your mom is so cute! I am also the wider, taller version of my mama. :) Your mom’s choice is beautiful and youthful. She’ll look fab! We finally found my mom’s dress at Nordstrom’s. It’s not the usual jacket/dress combo, which she was excited about!

I helped my mom with her dress last weekend. My mom is also on the diminutive side so we chose a champagne brocade suit (sheath dress w/ jacket). It’s good because the structure make sure she doesn’t get lost in the look. Some of those MOB dresses were ridiculously voluminous! Plus, the structure of the suit makes it more formal & she’s walking me down the aisle. =)

I love your mom’s dress & the color is awesome!

Your mom is ADORABLE! She’ll look beautiful in your selection!! My mom is making her dress and I gave her ideas on what might look good on her. I haven’t seen it yet, but I hope it looks as cute as your mom’s!!!

I will be with my Mom when she goes dress shopping for her dress. Like you, my Mom does not belong in those older looking Mother of the Bride dresses. She is only 48 and sometimes gets told that she is my sister so that last thing I want to do is make her look older. As long as she looks great and feels great in what she is wearing then I am happy!

BTW — the dress your Mom picked is gorgeous!

I agree! We didn’t think my mom should go typical MOB dress either. I found a goldish short dress with a jacket from Talbots, it is gorgeous and fits her perfect! I found it and told her she had to have it. It went on sale, so she bought it and she agrees it looks amazing.

Now we just have to find her soemthing for my sister’s weddign this fall. We are having way more trouble with that since my sister wants a floor length gown.

Your mom is too cute! I helped pick out my mom’s dress. She got it from the bridal salon where I brought my dress. They have a fiesta collection. I can’t wait for her to wear it at the wedding.

Speaking as an I hope to be future MOB, it is so cute you all think your moms are too cool for MOB dresses.

We haven’t started looking just yet (need to find my dress first), but I too, have a mom that would not be caught dead in a typical Mother of the Bride dress. She is way to fun and hip to look dowdy!
