Red Hot Wedding Day Shoes

April 9th, 2009 @ 10:31 am by Mrs. Labrador

Now that we’ve finally picked out wedding colors, I can start thinking about color details. I absolutely love the emerging trend of wedding shoes in the same hue as one of the wedding’s accent colors. Because deep red is one of our colors, I will be shopping for shoes similar to these:

Wearing fabulous shoes is so me. Not to mention, they’ll make for great photo ops!

How many of you are secretly thinking I’m crazy for wanting to wear stilettos for an outdoor ceremony on grass right now? Well don’t worry, I’ve thought this through! Since Mr. L is 6’2″ and I’m barely 5’6″, wearing flats is completely out of the question for me. I’m wearing sky-high heels and found a way to do it without sinking into the grass on the way down the aisle: heel stoppers!

They come in so many designs, most in clear with crystal embellishments. They make the surface of the heel wider, so you don’t sink into the ground. I love these so much that I’ll be including them in my BMs gift baskets for the bridesmaids’ luncheon, so my girls can wear heels as well during the ceremony! (Ha ha, I just realized that my girls are going to know everything I’m getting/doing for them because of this blog! Oh well!)

Speaking of shoes, I found a cute idea where all the BMs sign the bottoms of the bride’s shoes after the ceremony, so it makes them even more special. I’m definitely going to do that! :)

Are you wearing colored shoes on your wedding day? What color are they, and where did you find them?

I’m a red shoe bride as well!
I got these:
http://www.amazon.com/Madden-Girl-Womens-Beckey-Mary/dp/B0018DDZ8M
in red. And I looooove them. They’re maybe not the deep red or the stilettos you’re looking for, but I highly recommend them nonetheless. They’re carried at DSW.

I am on the hunt for green shoes. I love the idea of having shoes in my accent color, which will also be the color of the groom’s tie!! I have had some trouble finding the shoes, so I will have to have them dyed!

I am indeed wearing colored heels. Bright pink to be exact! I’m also having an outdoor ceremony, but I have boat-sized feet (sz 10), so wedges just aren’t going to happen. Instead I’m sporting a 3.5 inch heel, despite being 5′9. I just ordered my shoes online, and they’re on back order :(. Fortunately, its early enough that its no biggie. Yay for the colored heels!!

I’m totally wearing colored shoes I just have to decide which color - orange or fuchsia. I’m excited to find some, but haven’t started my search yet!

Oooh la la that first pair is hot. And I should be a good judge of shoe character, as I am Miss Stiletto ;)

I’ve never heard of heel stoppers, but what a fabulous idea for all outdoor ceremony brides. Awesome!

I am having an issue with shoes right now too! Again, outdoor ceremony…worrying about sinkage.

Have you used these? I am still not convinced that they will actually work and I’ll be aerating the aisle…

i LOVE colored shoes….i’m really really hoping my dress, in my size, is long enough for me to wear the 4 inch hot pink loubs i’ve been lusting after for my entire engagement.

and yes, my mother still doesn’t get why i’m not wearing white shoes….::sigh::

I’m with you Miss Labrador! :) I’m 5′3 and my fiancee is 6′3 so I always wear heels! I’m thinking about wearing blue (I’m definitely choosing an accent color) and the heel stoppers are a must! I’m mad I didn’t think to invent these!

I am also wearing heels even though we’re having an outdoor ceremony. FI is 6′0 and I’m a measly 5′3″. I need the added height!

Mine are red Valentinos with the same bow and peep toe detail as the first pair in your post (I believe that first pair are Valentino’s, too), except they’re slingbacks not d’orsays.

That pair is awesome!

I am planning on wearing deep red shoes as well, to coordinate with the colors. My heel probably won’t be that high though. However, I do love the heel stoppers!

Okay. Seriously. Miss Lab, You are a girl after my heart!
We both love JH Bridal, the whole football thing AND we are both having red heels! I’m going for Jimmy Choos; I haven’t found THE pair yet but JC are my wedding splurge!
I was going to be crazy enough to wear heels on grass and just equip my MOH with cleaning wipes. Hehe. I have to look into those heel stoppers now!

I’m definitely a heel girl - my FI is 6′1 and I’m a paltry 5′2! Mine are pink Nina’s that I found on endless.com but got for even cheaper through Amazon (which is strange b/c endless is a branch of Amazon, but go figure)! I’ve never heard of heel stoppers and I’ll definitely need them during our photo shoots - thanks for the heads up!!

Ya know, I remember hearing about a Turkish(?) tradition in which the single ladies sign the bottom of the bride’s shoes. The one whose name wears off the most will get married next.

Cute shoes! I am also a colored shoe bride. I got a great deal on a pair of Christian Louboutin Multi-Color Blue Armadillos: http://www.neimanmarcus.com/store/catalog/productImagesPopup.jhtml?selected=mg&item=prod60850017&pageProductId=prod60850017&yB=mg_prod60850017&mwsInfo=enlarge
Like pp mentioned, they are my wedding splurge!

I’ve heard that after all of the bridesmaids (or single girlfriends) sign the shoes, the one who’s name fades the most at the end of the night is the next one to get married!

Being a red-shoe bride myself, I thought I would share a picture as to how AWESOME they look in pictures:

I recommend hunting on these major holiday weekend sales - I found mine on July 4th weekend for our October wedding. Good luck!

I LOVE that first pair! Like jc4evaluv, I’m 5′2″ and FH is 6′1″ so I am also wearing heels. Since Yellow is one of our wedding colors, I wanted to find a pair of yellow pumps… I realized last weekend that I already have a pair of yellow pumps that are SUPER comfy!
Since our ceremony is also on grass my mom bought me something similar so I don’t sink in :)

LOVE the red shoes…I’m right there with you! But I bought ones with out a huge heel because I’m somewhat close in height to my man and also want to make sure I can wear them all night long. :) ENJOY! So fun isn’t it? When my grandmother found out I was wearing red shoes she said “Oh my goodness! People are going to mistake her for a streetwalker!” um…. oh grandma!

Oh my, oh my. That first pair is seriously amazing!

One time I photographed a charity ball that was held in a football stadium, and the VIP guests were allowed to walk around on the field. All of the women had to remove their heels for that same reason! I think the heel stoppers are fabulous!

I agree, the heel stoppers are a wonderful idea! I’m so glad I read this post! I am in the same boat, my FI is 6′3″ and I am only 5′5″ on a good day. So I need all the help I can get, plus we are getting married outside. I am definitely going to get some heel stoppers for me and my girls!

I love this idea!!! Who said you have to wear shoes that match your dress. My shoes are purple. I was looking for shoes for my bridesmaids and found a gorgeous pair at Dillard’s on the sale rack (only one pair)! I love them and even wore them for our E-Pics. You won’t be able to see them with my dress, but they make me happy!

I really want to wear flip flops, since I can’t walk in heels and the reception klocation is on the beach, but I love shots with colored shoes, so I may have to do lots of practicing before the big day.

I think red will look stunning!

Those shoes are amazing! I wish I could stand stilettos but I just can’t, my foot kills me and I feel like the padding on my foot is bruised if I walk around in them. I should know, I did it for my sister’s wedding and I could barely walk by the end of the night. Thank goodness for my special flip flops. Those stoppers would have been a great idea. Never heard of them before.

I LOVE those red shoes. I just bought a pair of ivory shoes to match my dress… but now I’m thinking they’re kind of boring!

Maybe I’ll wear the ivory shoes during the ceremony (to appease my Mom) and then switch into really fun red shoes for the reception….

I’m wearing Sapphire blue heels hehehe!

Oh and a note on the shoe signing! It’s also a tradition that they sign the ball of your foot before the ceremony and at the end of the nigh whoever’s name has rubbed off the least is the next to get married!

I’m wearing Champagne strappy heels and using Sole Mates. I did, however, previously purchase a pair of platform stilettos in aqua…with a poof! But alas, they were to bold for my slim, sheath dress.

I love your idea of signing the shoes! Look forward to seeing what you come up with!

@Lindsey: If I were having a spring or summer wedding, I’d totally have bright pink as an accent color! Pink is my favorite color!

@Miss Stiletto: True, true! If I could find a pair like the first ones at a good price, I’ll be in HEAVEN.

@Miss Quiche: I haven’t used them personally, but from what I gather after doing research, they work pretty well. I may order them ahead of time to try them out. If I do, I’ll let you know how it goes!

@Gerbera: Haha, I’m trying! Maybe we could share ideas since we have such similar taste! I’m thinking my shoes may be a splurge as well. I won’t feel as guilty about that since shoes like these will get plenty of use after the wedding!

@Ms. Radish: Don’t you just love all the wedding traditions people celebrate around the world?

@jesstagirl: I can’t remember where I saw it, but I just remember thinking that was a cute idea!

@Rachie4: Those are FIERCE. lol I love ANY shoe created by Christian or Manolo. Don’t you wish you could raid Carrie Bradshaw’s closet? haha

@Trebuchet: CUTENESS! I love your hubby’s expression! :) Thanks for the shopping tip!

@Miss Popcorn: OMG, you’re grandma is too funny! I guess their generation just doesn’t get anything that’s not traditional. haha I’ll probably give up on the shoes halfway through the night and just dance barefoot. No biggie!

@Lindz1701: Yeah, I like the idea that my dress will cover the shoes as I walk down the aisle so they’re not flashing all over the place. But then for things like the “garter hunt” they’ll be on display for everyone!

@tatrifon: That’s a good idea!

I REALLY hate to burst your bubble because those shoes are CUTE, Miss Lab… but you’re still going to sink even with the stoppers if the ground is the slightest bit on the moist side the day of the wedding.

I work in the funeral industry, and I’m in cemeteries about every other day for various reasons. I love wearing heels, but the conditions make things nearly impossible. So, what’s a girl to do?? I bought some stoppers!

I was so excited, but come to find out it just makes you sink LESS or not as deep. It’s still difficult to stand and sometimes it can suck the little tips off. Ugh. Unfortunately, I had to switch back to flats and boots for my cemetery days. (or keep an extra pair in the car…)
