Mrs. Quiche's Picture
Mrs. Quiche, Chicago/Montego Bay Age and Occupation: 28, Interior Designer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 42, Telecom Guru Engagement Date: July 2, 2008 Wedding Date: May, 2009 Venue: Coyaba Resort, Montego Bay About Me: I love Chicago and can’t imagine living anywhere else (Well, except Paris. Or anywhere in France, for that matter!). I’m a full-time worker, part-time student, soon-to-be-step-mom, indie music lovin’, architecture and design fanatic, macaroni and cheese addict, vegetarian, Francophile, Ohio State football obsessed, wedding planning girl. Mr. Quiche and I are “Partners-in-Crime” and cannot wait to celebrate our marriage surrounded by our family and closest friends. I plan on DIYing my little heart out (or as much as a suitcase to Jamaica will hold).
About Mrs. Quiche

I still haven’t been able to get the idea of a reception dress out of my mind. After Max Azria seriously let me down, my search (and resulting frustration) has soldiered on.

Like my issue with shoes, I haven’t really found anything that jumped out at me, shouting, “Me! Pick me! Wear me! Love me!” Especially something that would justify the added expense in our wedding budget. A few friends have told me to just drop the search and wear my dress all night long – I mean, that’s what most brides do, right? – since it is light and airy (I had been using the “What if I get too hot?” line).

Mr. Quiche and I were stalking photography blogs of fellow Coyaba weddings and came across this picture…

…and Mr. Q let it be known that he wanted to do that. Yeah! I LOVE Trash the Dress shots (and our superfabulous photographer, Ashley, will be with us all weekend!) and far be it from me to deny the man this simple request. But wait. In my wedding dress? Eeeeee… not so sure about that! Why not find something comfy and casual that I can change into late night (if desired) and then wear again the next morning for a TTD shoot?

This led me to change the parameters of my reception dress. Maxi Dresses, to be exact. Loosey-goosey, flowy, fun, fabulous, cheaper-than-a-wedding-dress and “trashable”.

How romantic!

I *heart* James Perse

Victoria’s Secret has a lot of cheap options!

This adorable blue and white ticking stripe could also work!

Buying one of these dresses comes with the added bonus of being re-wearable (trust me, I would have never worn that BCBG dress again, no matter how many times I told you that I would).

I don’t think Mr. Quiche will don his Calvin Klein suit for the big plunge, and perhaps will wear what the groomsmen are wearing for the ceremony (because we loved it so much and got such a great deal, we bought one for him, too!).

Are you trashing your dress, or did you find a re-wearable alternative?

i kind of want to do that with my actual wedding dress. But I don’t want to totally trash it. Just take more outdoor photos and such.

This sounds incredibly ridiculous, but their is a petting farm/zoo located on the grounds of my venue. There’s a plethora of animals from deer to rabbits to pigs. I LOVE animals and think a Trash the Dress shoot at the petting farm would be perfect! However I’m not sure if I wanna wear my dress or not.
I’m loving all of the dresses you have pictured above!

OMG, a maxi dress would be soooooooo perfect for a) your reception dress; b) easy trashing and wearing again; c) your tall, goddess frame! I love maxi dresses, and if you get any one of these, you’d look amazing!

My mom (once again) is making my reception dress–a fifties flouncy number.

I love that picture of the couple jumping in the water, you have to do something like that. It looks like so much fun! Any of those dresses would look great on you!

We’re TTD in Hawaii on our honeymoon! I thought it would have cooler shots than just where we’re getting married…I can’t wait!!

Yeah, I don’t think that I could truly TRASH something so beautiful, but I wouldn’t mind like going out to the country and running around in it and laying down in a field or something so that it’s dry cleanable and preservable again. That would be cool.

I love both the Maxi and the VS dresses. Although I don’t think I will be trashing the dress, it looks like a lot of fun!

It wasn’t done so much as a “let’s trash this dress” shot and more of a “it’s hot as hell” kind of shot (because it really was quite hot), and they were just letting loose. Anyway, she said the dress was just fine, especially so after a cleaning, so fear not! :)

I trashed my second dress and it’s actually in amazing condition. We went in a cave, a cenote, a pool and the ocean. It’s chiffon so it was pretty durable. Depending on the dress you should be able to trash without the…umm….trash!
