About Mrs. Perfume

We just got our invitation for a pre-wedding-non-shower-dinner being thrown for us by a great friend! How no-fuss and old-school-git-’er-dun is this?! After Weddingbee and all the fanciness that is invitations, when’s the last time you saw something like this? I love it!!! It is sooo our friend!

Invitation to Our Non-Shower Dinner : wedding bridal shower Predin

Mr. P grew up in a wuuuunderful “village-town” in Virginia, just outside of Washington DC. It’s unincorporated, quaint, and full of history. As a teenager, he worked in a family friend’s restaurant, an absolutely charming little establishment in an old Victorian street front. Suzi, the proprietor, has since retired to her farm in Leesburg, but her daughter now runs the business.

Suzi spends her days tending to the farm, throwing parties, and cultivating her grandchildrens’ horse activities. (Theirs is a polo horse farm—not as pretentious as it sounds—and Suzi and her hubby are extremely down to earth people.) Their restaurant serves “creative American” and Southern regional cuisine (Suzi is from Tennessee and her husband is from southern Virginia). It’s warm, rustic, and full of mementos from their early American antique and polo activity collections.

Invitation to Our Non-Shower Dinner : wedding bridal shower 20124 H02 When laid-back, energetic and very southern Miss Suzi decided she wanted to throw us the little party, she–in her resolute, exuberant, and no nonsense way–asked, “How about I throw you guys a little party? Some comfort food and mint juleps, that sort of thing…” Why, of course!!! And in true form, she sent out a quick, easy, and no-fuss invitation for a delicious little southern dinner at the restaurant.

With the exception of a couple date shifts (due to our families’–not Suzi’s–scheduling difficulties), it’s been a fantastically easy planning process (in contrast to the bridal shower). She just told us to send her a list of guests and to show up! I heart her so!!!

I can’t wait, and feel so touched and happy that Suzi and her husband are doing this for us!

Are you being thrown any casual showers or parties? What will they be like?

I grew up on a polo horse farm! And it really isn’t as fancy as it sounds! We probably indirectly know suzi. Polo is a very small world!

How sweet of her to throw this non-shower/party dinner! :) & even sweeter that you can just show up and leave the party to your trusty, lovely friend.

I asked my mom, and we totally know Suzi. Friend of a friend. Weddingbee continues to amaze me in its “village-town” feel. We all ‘know’ each other. :)

That is so sweet of her to do that! I love her invitation. It gives a little reality check. Not everything has to be planned to the last detail. That only causes stress. That has to be the only bad thing about wedding blogs / sites, you have too many ideas and options and you get into this mind set that everything has to be out of the ordinary. When there is nothing wrong with ordinary in the first place… :)

Casual is the way to go for me! My MOH is hosting a fun party for all my coworkers to come to in order to celebrate our engagement! It’ll be a relaxed little party at her apartment with some food and stuff. I’m glad because I feel bad no one can come to the wedding so this way we can all celebrate together!

@sarah: Small world, huh?! That’s great!!!

@JeniRae: NOOOO WAYYY!! Do you live in Virginia??? Do you ever go to Twilight Polo? That’s actually how we got to be friends with Suzi and hubby outside of Mr. P’s parents.

@LLauRRa: You are EXACTLY right. Total reality check.

@MightySapphire: That’s a great idea. Given the economy and having a small wedding (ourselves) that would be a nice touch to invite people who can’t go to the wedding!

@Indie B: @Tanne: @rannfar: @Miss Quiche: @Miss Glitter: Yes, so sweet, unpretentious and casual! It makes you feel good and at ease, ya know?

SMALL WORLD!! I read your post and instantly knew who you are talking about! I worked for the facility that Twilight Polo is based out of. You ARE right about how fabulous Suzi and her husband are. They made Polo so much fun in the summer! :)
