DIY Centerpieces - Part III

April 13th, 2009 @ 4:33 pm by Mrs. Beagle

I continued to search for ideas on creating an alternative to the traditional fresh-floral centerpiece. As you might remember, I drooled over succulents and daydreamed about candles, but then, I came across this:

Oh Martha, you make me *swoon*. Dried florals were the perfect alternative centerpieces for our fall wedding. From this point on, I had visions of bouquets of wheat sitting pretty on tabletops.

Sigh. Now that I had found my fresh-floral alternative, I wanted to customize it a bit by incorporating our wedding colors. So, I decided to create centerpieces that included vases of wheat/dried florals with accents of purples/blues/browns, accompanied by votive candles—ensuring that the dried stuff and the fire remains away from each other. :) I was also determined to create two different centerpieces and then alternate them between tables. Before we had finalized our guest lists, I knew we would need at least 25 tables. So, I limited my budget for decoration to $15/table. Could this be done? It was a bit overwhelming thinking of it all at once. However, DIY decor was a high priority on my to-do list, so I knew that I would complete it somehow. So, what exactly do the centerpieces look like, you ask? Well, that will have to wait for the next post.

Are you DIYing your centerpieces on a strict budget? What were some of the ways you stretched your dollar?

I scoured the internet for the perfect pieces for my centerpieces…and then waited for them to go on sale :) I ended up getting everything from Crate & Barrel for super cheap, yay!

We’re DIYing our centerpieces and stretching our dollars by taking advantage of what the reception site has on hand and what people are willing to give us for free.

I loved that MS wheat centerpiece too! Very gorgeous!!

We’re DIYing our centerpieces. It’s certainly evolved with my and my bridesmaids tweeking! I’ve finally decided on something like this: http://www.oncewed.com/index.cfm?postID=332
and it’s only $12 per centerpiece!

I love that idea—it’s perfect for fall! And it doesn’t look like it would be expensive or difficult to throw together. Budget-friendly and stress-free centerpieces are awesome! Can’t wait to see how yours turned out!

That first shot was one of my inspirations as well! I actually just made my bridal bouquet out of dried wheat 2 days ago!

I think they’re so pretty and simple.

With the Groom’s Father and Best man severely allergic to grass, and our ex-roommate being a Celiac- allergic to wheat- these were never really an option.

We’re going with unscented candles, with hurricanes to keep them lit.

Love wheat centerpieces (and I love how it looks in bouquets, too)! A close friend of Mr. Spin’s family has a million, massive hydrangea bushes so we’re scoring green hydrangeas for some of our centerpieces! Gah! So excited. ^_^
