Rockin’ the Trial, Out On the Town

April 14th, 2009 @ 5:20 pm by Mrs. Sushi

The one disadvantage of having a destination wedding is that you don’t have the convenience of having a trial, or even a taste test, at your leisure. We got to Hawaii a week—seven days—before the wedding. That gave me seven days to visit our venue, have a hair trial, and get all those itty-bitty lil’ details in check; all while trying to relax, have fun, and entertain our guests in paradise.

Two days after we got to the rock, I had my hair and makeup trial with May from Beauty by May. If you don’t remember, I was looking for a half up/half down do with dramatic eyes.

Before:

hm-befo

Yikes!

After:

It makes me wish I had someone to do my hair and makeup every day!

I paid extra for fake lashes and airbrush makeup. The eyelashes were interesting. I’ve worn fake lashes before at a friend’s wedding, but these weren’t the strips of lashes, they were individual lashes. I’m not sure if there was a huge difference in results, but I was happy with them. The airbrush makeup was very light and flawless. I totally loved it!

Since I had paid for the trial, I figured I might as well have gotten my money’s worth, so I rocked it out that night. I gathered all my friends and we went to Dave and Busters for some game play and a few drinks.

3

Me and my two best and oldest friends I have, back from when I used to live in Hawaii

5

Me and my “baby” brother. Isn’t he a cutie?!

6

Mr. Sushi, L, and my brother, totally killing it on a trivia game

7

My brother, Mr. Sushi, and I playing a racing game. Mr. Sushi was cheating, and I was obviously upset about it. :)

8

The whole gang! Everyone put their tickets together and we got light-up lollipops. Somehow Mr. Sushi got the ONLY blue one. :P

This was also one of the only nights that I had all my friends together for a night out. Plus, I got to see how long the makeup and hair would last through the night.

Did you get a hair and makeup trial and then test it out with a night on the town?

i did my trial before my engagement photo shoot, which means that 1. my engagement shoot was very late and/or 2. my trial was very early. but it was perfect because i got to see how my makeup looked in pictures!

What a neat test to the makeup… did the airbrushing hold up? It looks great from the picture you posted! I’m not going to Hawaii for my wedding, but I’m not local to where it’s held and am crossing my fingers I have good luck like you when I get there with the food, hair, etc.!

Not that you don’t look fabulous and beautiful, because you do, but I wonder why she made your bangs go the opposite way of the way you wore them naturally, like in your profile pic and your “before” pic, that was way not a “yikes” by the way!
*shrug* Just me being random.

Get down with your gorgeous bridal self. :)

Um, LOVE. You look fab! I just might steal your hairstyle-it’s more-or-less what I’m looking for, but I’d have the curls hang over my shoulders. I never have good plans after a hair or makeup trial! :P

PS: You hardly need any makeup at all–you lucky duck or lucky sushi, as it were, but really it looks fantastic!

Thanks for all the sweet comments!
@FutureMrsMorgan: I try to take vitamins, but always forget. No special tricks here, although I don’t wash it every day.

@mary-alice-me: Airbrushing was great and held all night. I totally recommend it! My T-zone gets pretty greasy and I didn’t have any real issues with that either.

@LLauRRa: I’m not really sure why she flipped my part either. I didn’t argue about it though, I mean, she is the professional. :)

@eileen marie: awww…thanks. ::blush::

@Grey56: I did bring a few photos with me for inspiration. I really trusted her judgment too and let her do what she thought would be best for me. I’d be honored to be your “inspiration”. hehe.

Hi Mrs. Sushi–I’ve got a quick question for you. I read on a couple of websites that airbrush makeup doesn’t mix well with tears. So if you cry, there will be a line down your face where the tear fell. Did your makeup artist say anything about this? I’m really intrigued by airbrush makeup, but I’d rather not have little streaks. (Plus, you apparently can’t cover the streaks with more make-up.) Let me know what you think! Merci.

@AshCat: Luckily I didn’t cry on my wedding day, so I really don’t know if airbrush and tears mix. Sorry.

@ms tn walking horse: My brother is not 21 yet, so Dave and Busters was a wonderful place to go where we could all hang out. Regardless of age. :)

I heart your hair and makeup.

I have not had my hair trail yet but I have had my make up trail and of course I rocked it all day long and made errands that could have waited just to show off the sultry eyes that I had.

I got a makeup trial and tested it with a photo shoot and dinner. Wish mine looked as good as yours did after 6 hours!
