The Out of Town Bags

The Out of Town Bags : wedding favors P411001

We’re down to the wire, people. With just 5 short days left, Mr. L and I are knocking projects out left and right. Yesterday we headed to the Costco to pick up some provisions to load up in our little gift bags for our out of town guests. We had brainstormed for quite a while as to what bags to use, and what exactly we’d put in them. In the end, we decided to fill the bags up with (relatively) healthy goodies.

We picked up solid brown kraft paper bags, 2 cases of Annie’s Bunnies individually packaged snacks (a variety), 2 flats of bottled water, and 2 cases of individually packaged jerky. I felt the need to include something that was a bit more representative of me, since I am a total junk food addict. Thus, we also picked up 2 cases of full sized candy, one chocolate mix, and one fruity mix.

Each bag was stuffed with 2 bottles of water and a variety of the snacks. My lovely FMIL visited the San Antonio travel and tourism office and somehow sweet-talked her way into taking home about 30 Fiesta booklets. The booklets are awesome, because they not only detail all of the Fiesta events occurring through out the week, but they also have detailed maps of the city. To round the bags out and keep with the (very) loose Texas theme, we added 2 packages of Bluebonnet seeds to each one. Lastly, I hastily typed up a little welcome/thank you note and rolled it into a scroll, tied it with some navy satin ribbon, and dropped one in each bag.

On Thursday when my mother and I are running around SA, we plan on dropping the bags off at the hotel where the majority of the guests will be staying, and at my FMIL’s home, where she is hosting a few couples, as well.

Are you planning on creating out of town bags for your guests? If so, whatcha gonna stock them with?

I like the labels you have on your bags. Where did you get them?

my wedding will be in Boerne and I curious as to where the San Antonio travel and tourism office is. I also wanted to put some “Texas” into our OOT bags since a lot of my family is from out of state. I love the bluebonnet idea. Your bags looks fantastic! thanks for the post!

Only 5 days!!! Wow! So far we’ve got: sparkling water, biscotti, aspirin, and some touring pamphlets. We need to find something local!

Wonderful idea and I like the label on the front of your bag. I’m thinking of including some local goodies in my OOT bags however I’m trying to be conscious of those arriving by plane who might not be able to take a liquid (like BBQ sauce) back if they don’t check a bag.

5 days! Woo Hoo!

I think you can pick up bags like that at Target for a fairly decent price. . . You also might be able to find a small stock from a wholesaler on eBay (my scrapbooking trick of the trade!). Good Luck!

We have so much stuff…we may need to cut back a little bit (as we have to haul most of it to Jamaica with us - ack!). Yours look great!

We’ve got a bottle of water, rise krispie treat, microwave popcorn (all the hotel rooms have a microwave), tylenol, aveda personal blends shampoo, conditioner and lotion, various other Aveda samples (I work at Aveda), cookies from a nearby cookie factory and a timeline of events and map to the ceremony and reception.

Wow, I was going to add some chips, but after typing it all up I think they have plenty!

@Jenny Bee: The “labels” are just cardstock that I ran through the printer, cut with my paper cutter, and attached with double sided tape.

@Pingwin: I actually picked the bags up at Michaels or Wal-Mart, I don’t remember. I didn’t need a ton and they were decently priced.

These were my DIY OOT bags - http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/some-tips-for-diying-oot-bags - my wedding was in Amelia Island, FL, and in the bags I put:

- A folder with a welcome packet and fliers for local activities (Wal-Mart)
- Two bottles of water (Wal-Mart)
- Two FL coconut patties (Anastasia Confections)
- Mini Coppertone sunblock (www.minimus.biz)
- 2 Individual Wet Ones packs (Wal-Mart)
- Two bags of popcorn (Wal-Mart)
- Candy (movie-size package of whoppers or milk duds from Wal-Mart)

Your OOT bags look great! I’m excited about doing ours. So far we’re including the usual informational stuff, a bottle of water, an R.C. Cola, a moon pie, a tiny bag of parched peanuts, a bag of Golden Flake potato chips (the best!), and a couple of my grandmother’s wedding cookies (which she makes for Christmas, not weddings, but no one will know that). It sounds like a lot when I type it out, and it also sounds like a case of type II diabetes waiting to happen! lol

We are going to fill it all with local goods including: Boeje’s mustard, Lacomarcino chocolates, and then something with Hawkeyes and the Illini since we are from opposing schools…I think we need more though…

Cute bags! I haven’t decided what we are going to do yet, but I love the simplicity of your bags.
