About Mrs. Cowboy Boot

Beer. Beer. Beer.

April 15th, 2009 @ 5:06 pm by Mrs. Cowboy Boot

Mr. Cowboy Boot and I have an appointment with Devil’s Thumb Ranch to suss out our catering contract over Memorial Day weekend. It’s got my wheels spinning. While I should be thinking about our BBQ menu and whether we want braised collared greens or bison rustic chili, I’ve only got my mind on one thing. Beer. No, this is not Mr. CB writing in place of Miss Cowboy Boot.

Beer. Beer. Beer. : wedding alcohol Beer

I love beer. That’s right. After a long hike, while paddling down a river, around a campfire, or at the end of a ski day, there’s nothing better than an ice-cold brew. This favoritism over other, more girly beverages could be a result of the fact that I live in a mountain town. Everyone here drinks beer.

But I’m also a bit of a beer snob—I can’t reach for the cheapest case in the grocery store fridge. In fact, I’m drinking a Santa Fe Brewing Company Nut Brown Ale right now. When I’m not, I reach for a New Belgium’s Fat Tire or Organic Mothership Wit.

So why am I going on and on about beer? Because it’s been one of our favorite details of our wedding. As one of our beverage options, we can pick from six kegs of local beers. Since we’re doing a BBQ dinner we figure that beer will be a big hit. And, Mr. CB and I wish we could call ourselves locavores, which makes this so appealing to us. Throughout the past few months, we’ve been scouring liquor stores to find the six beers on the menu so we can taste them and see which we like. If we like all six, we might just do quarter kegs of each kind of beer.

Now for the beer list:

Beer. Beer. Beer. : wedding alcohol Threepi

(source)

Wild Creek Brewery’s Three Pin Jack Pale Ale made in Winter Park, Colorado, just nine miles down the road from our venue. They also serve beers called Breakaway Blonde, Gear Jammer Amber, Wee Heavy Lassie, and Plain Jane.

Beer. Beer. Beer. : wedding alcohol Easystr

(source)

Easy Street Wheat Beer (one of my faves) is brewed by Odell Brewing Company out of Fort Collins, Colorado, which is about two hours from our venue.

Beer. Beer. Beer. : wedding alcohol Coors

(source)

Coors and Coors Light have to be on the list. They’re the one recognizable brewery, but they’re brewed just sixty-six miles from our venue in Golden, Colorado.

Beer. Beer. Beer. : wedding alcohol 90shill

(source)

We also have another beer by Odell Brewing Company called 90 Shilling. It’s Odell’s flagship beer and it’s basically a traditional Scottish ale, unlike Easy Street, which is an unfiltered wheat beer.

Beer. Beer. Beer. : wedding alcohol Woolybo

(source)

If you didn’t catch the name yet, it’s Wooly Booger. Ha. Every time I say this to people, they have to bring up the beer Moose Drool from Big Sky Brewing. Not brewed as far away as Montana, though, Wooly Booger (try saying that six times fast) is created by Grand Lake Brewing Company, which is only twenty-seven miles from Devil’s Thumb.

What did you have the most fun trying out before your wedding?

Hey we’re a couple of beer nerds too! Unfortunately our venue has a passable, but not awesome beer selection, so the mister would be very jealous if he could see your list! Our saving grace is that the welcome party the night before will be at our house, and just about all the beer will have been brewed by the mister himself (either during his dayjob at a local microbrewery or for his homebrewing hobby!).

dude I love beer - the hoppier the better!
We’re thinking of getting some pony kegs from our favorite breweries - Terminal Gravity (out of eastern oregon) and Nectar Ales (from Humbolt (CA) Brewing Co).

I like the nut brown ale, too - have you been to socorro springs? (http://www.socorrosprings.com/)

Ahh! We are total beer snobs too! We’re having a keg of Leinekugel Sunset Wheat at our reception! I’ll have to bookmark this post and try some of your beers! Yay for beer snobs!

I think this is a great idea!
My fiance and I also love beer. My favorite is Left Hand Milk Stout, brewed out of Longmont, Colorado. If we get married near Denver, I know it will be on the menu!

Can you believe that the fiancee and I discovered Fat Tire in our little town in NC a few weeks ago?
We used to only be able to find it in on ski trips to Vail! This made for one very happy fiancee! :)
Makes me thirsty!

Mmmm… Fat Tire… I’m drooling a little.

So glad to hear you’re a beer lover! We’ll be doing kegs at our wedding, too, but it’s been difficult deciding which ones. I looooove your idea of getting several little kegs. Brilliant!

I agree! Beer is better! The BEST thing after a long day of skiing is drinking a cold beer in a hot shower.

Our local beverage of choice will likely be Huckleberry Lemonades. A company named 44 Degrees North makes huckleberry vodka, and in the summer, huckleberry vodka in lemonade is nothing short of AWESOME.

We’ll have beer from a local brewery too, called the Keweenaw Brewing Company, or KBC. YUM!

Miss CB, I think this is AWESOME. I love it!

We haven’t been able to test out anything, unfortunately. Actually, I take that back. We sampled the beach chairs, the pool, breakfast…and all were splendid. ;)

I’m the proud owner of a wine and beer boutique in MI, and am a huge beer fan. I actually host an Extreme Beer Tasting at my shop twice a year–working on the next one now (May 8!)
We’re also doing a bbq (at our home) and are doing a bunch of great wine and 6 kegs of beer from a local brewery that’s just 3 miles from us. They have a cocoa stout that rivals almost any other we’ve ever had…and love the local angle, as well.
So, that said, I AGREE! Beer and bbq for a wedding? The best combination!

I live in the Denver area and I hope to soon go to the Coors Brewery, I hear it’s fantastic! Too bad your venue isn’t close enough that people could take a tour. I hear it’s fantastic and beer right off the line is apparently like NONE OTHER.

We will definitely serve some local microbrews -
And I agree a martini just doesn’t feel right after a day of skiing….you have to have a beer.

I love beer! Since we’re located in SD, we’re going with the Stone Pale Ale and maybe some Karl Strauss as well. Haven’t had beer in a while because I’m trying to flatten my tummy, but come my wedding day, I will be the first one at the bar asking for a cold bottle of beer.

We typically drink Belgian beers — so snobby, but not local. I do like the Christian Morleins they brew around here and should figure out what else is local to me. Of course there will be good beer at the reception!

Oh for the love of beer…I am so excited to see fellow beer-loving brides!! My FI has always wanted to brew beer so he’s going to do our wedding. Will be a lot of work and we’ll probably kill each other in the process but we’ve got our first “practice” batch botted and in a few *short* weeks we get to taste-test!
