About Mrs. Bruschetta

Tulle Time

April 15th, 2009 @ 10:47 am by Mrs. Bruschetta

My dress came in a few weeks ago, and I recently made an appointment to visit her — of course, try her on! — and to begin figuring out the whole veil thing.

(source)

~~~ Okay, Mr. Bruschetta, this is your cue to scoot! ~~~
I love the idea of a ceremony veil, and then a new look for the reception. This option would also mesh well with our plans to wander through Old City for creative candids between the ceremony and reception.
Long and dramatic is what I’ve got in mind for the ceremony. But, it seems it’s not as simple as that! I tried on two beautiful, cathedral-length veils. And, while I’ll admit I’m slightly favoring one over the other, I’m still torn. Which do you prefer?
A traditional style (which wouldn’t be embellished with crystals, like this one is)…
2
3
Or a cascade design?
4
5
My consultant only gave me one birdcage to try, and I was instantly hooked. It’s fresh yet retro, sweet yet sassy. The only thing I didn’t love? The price. ($250!)
6
7
As can-do as Crafty Miss Bruschetta tends to be, I’m not comfortable trusting my wedding veils to my well-intentioned (but not always perfectly-executed) DIY capabilities.
So, hive, I’m seeking your votes (yes/no to two different veils — and which ceremony look you prefer) and recommendations. Where did you purchase your wedding veil?
I’m a two veil bride! I’m doing a very simple cathedral length veil for the ceremony and I have a birdcage veil and detachable fascinator that I’ll wear for some of our pictures, and may just end up wearing the hair flower for the reception.
The cascade veil and the birdcage veil are the best. Go check out etsy.com. They have a TON of great birdcage veils.
I think I like the cascade style better on you for the ceremony! And if you plan on a birdcage, you could always search etsy or as the lovely Mrs. Seabreeze to make one for you!
Ditto the etsy.com. I got two beautiful veils for less than $50.
I really like the cascade veil best. It seems to “frame” you better (if that makes sense! :)
Hey Bruchetta! I like the cascade for a ceremony veil!
I understand being afraid of the birdcage price (ouch!!) and the DIY; it really isn’t that hard, I did it for a few friends. In fact, a tip for all Philly brides, if you really want the birdcage (which I absolutely love!!) Albert Zoll, down on Fabric Row carries the Russian nailing for it. They have black or white, so maybe you could even do a headpiece that incorporates the black for your BM’s… now that would be super sassy :-)
The first one will not take away from your dress where the second has the edging that might not go well. You can totally get a birdcage for way less than that as Miss Mascara said.
I got my birdcage at SomethingBold.com for less than $50. Never buy a veil in a bridal shop, the prices are so insanely inflated!
I love the first one. And get Mrs. Seabreeze to make you a birdcage- or look on Etsy. I love birdcage veils but I think you can do better than 250!!
I think the cascading looks great on you!
I also want a long veil, but it will look more like your first one. I am curvy, and the saleslady said I probably didn’t want to add any pounds by having a heavy veil all around me. So I will get a skinny veil and wear it down my back, not coming forward over my shoulders.
I like the cascade! And what about ordering a cheaper birdcage online for the reception? I just ordered a birdcage from somethingbold.com. I haven’t received the veil yet so I can’t vouch for the quality, but I can say that their customer service thus far has been outstanding. I needed an urgent order and contacted the owner before purchasing and she graciously accommodated me!
I love the first one! It’s so simple and elegant and won’t detract from your dress.
The birdcage is cute - but definitely not $250 cute. I’ve also seen great ones on Etsy and purchased my fascinator on there!
Good luck : )
I like the cascade! And I second finding an online vendor (or contacting Mrs. Sea Breeze!) about a birdcage veil for the reception. $250 is ridonkulous.
I like the first one for the ceremony and the birdcage for the reception. I would hit up other bees who used/made birdcages and or try Etsy. $250 is half the cost of my friggin DRESS :)
Go with the first one - traditional, I think? I am not a fan of cascading veils, but that’s just me.
Also, Mrs. Seabreeze makes birdcage veils! PM her!!
I love the birdcage veil on you!! It’s sooo classy. I highly recommend with everyone else to search etsy. I just ordered my dress last Tuesday and I have several veils bookmarked on etsy already. I wonderful that you tried on so many veils already.
I love the cascading veil the best! It looks so soft and beautiful on you, and just flows out from your face so nicely. I think it would look so sweet and romantic for your candid photos. Can’t wait to find out which one you pick!
i repurposed and modified a veil that I found in a second hand store (after washing it, of course!)
My aunt and I made a few modifications to make it less bulky. All in all we spent $3 on the veil and I absolutely love it–plain, ivory and chapel length!
I love the birdcage on you, although I think would go with the first one.
I like the first one without the cascades the best. Try Occansey Designs, they had very reasonable prices and I got my veil very quickly!
I know the two veil thing is very popular right now… but you should keep in mind tha tyou might end up really attached to one. I ended up loving my veil more than I thought I would. So i left it on through the sword arch, dinner, and cutting the cake. I only took it off when we started the dancing. I still wish I had another excuse to wear it!
As for the 2 cathedral veils, i recommend the cathedral because it falls beautifully when its behind you and has the option of coming forward to sit around your shoulders without covering your dress or fully cocooning you.
I think it depends on whether you want the veil to come over your shoulders or not. I think the normal cathedral veil looks best behind your shoulders, but the cascading one in nice in front.
Could you not try the veils on with your dress? It’s pretty hard to choose in normal clothes!
@lou: Totally valid question. I could and did, and have pictures, but when I wrote this post, I wasn’t 100% sure I wanted to share my dress on Weddingbee, since the mister and I both want it to be a secret from him until the day of. Both look great with the dress, though, so I don’t know if sharing those pictures would be a huge help or not!
I love the cascade veil, but I would be interested to see how they all look with your dress — the cascade could end up detracting from your dress, which you wouldn’t want.
And the birdcage veil really is awesome.
All the veils were fantastic on you! Such a hard decision.
I was a two veil bride, and I loved both equally.
I agree with the others to check Etsy or Ms. Breezy.
I love the second cascade probably because it looks exactly like mine. Curious if you know who it is?
I don’t know if your consultant mentioned this to you but you can pin up the cathedral with a hat pin for a whole new look. I do love the bird cage as well but no the price tag.
I like the cascading style much more than the first one - that kind of looks like you just put some tulle on your head!
I don’t know, Roo, I like both and really can’t pick one over the other! The birdcage is cute, but I agree not worth the price - and I know from my experience by the reception I was so ready to be done with veils and show off my hair and flower completely.
Cascade! I made my own birdcage veil for roughly $12 in materials. Really, it’s worth it to give it a shot. Or if you’re not feeling up for that, you can get one for $35 or so on etsy (that can be customized to your every whim!), or a little more elsewhere online.
I agree with the other bees who said that the first, simpler one is romantic as all get-out AND won’t distract from your dress. The cascade w/the ribbon edge is a little busy. The birdcage is also adorable!
Oh how lovely! I agree with the other comments–two veils are better than one. ;). I’m only having a birdcage veil, and I’m getting it made by Mrs. Seabreeze herself! I know you said you PMed her, but FYI, her website is: http://kasiafink.com/
