You’ve Got a Cute Bout

April 15th, 2009 @ 5:58 pm by Mrs. D'orsay

You’ll be happy to know our florist still wants to work with us, even after I dropped the ball. When she sent me an email confirming the flowers we had discussed, I realized our flowers still went along with the old color scheme instead of the new one!

Oopsies! So the hive shall receive more flower searching inspiration from me. Our florist asked what boutonniere Mr. D should wear to complement the bridal bouquet, and I realized that with no calla lilies in the new bouquet, it would be kinda silly for him to be wearing one. The new bouquet will be made of lavender hydrangea, lavender roses, lavender stock, lavender lisianthus, and variegated purple dendrobium orchids (but I’m seeing if I can switch in other purple flowers instead of the orchids) with gray berries.

So, I thought he could maybe wear a little thistle with gray berries? It seems pretty manly… I mean, as manly as flowers can get…

Or maybe a bit of lavender hydrangea with gray berries, instead of green.

I dig this adorable cotton boutonniere as well!

I’m also out of ideas for corsages. I’ve been leaning towards using freesia, but I’m not sure how sturdy it will be, or if it will be in season. For our original color scheme we used cymbidium orchids and calla lilies for a fair amount of the boutonnieres and corsages. I’d like them all to be a little bit different from each other, so that everyone isn’t wearing the same corsage or boutonniere. Now that we’re looking at less structured flowers, I’m getting lost.

Any suggestions, hive?!

I think the cotton one is the best one. Have you thought about just using a purple colored or purple patterned pocket square instead of a flower? That’s even “manlier” than anything I think.

I’m lost on bouts too, so I’ll be really interested in what everyone suggests. FH just wants to do pocket squares but my mom and the florist think he needs both.
Sorry, I can’t be any help :-/

LOL I like the cotton one, but I don’t think it looks manly, and I think people will want to squeeze his bout all night. :)

I like the first one! Even with the green berries!

The cotton is GREAT! For him we’re doing rosemary, thyme, silver leaf and a succulent for a flower. We want to keep it very green and organic looking. For the rest we’re doing combo’s of herbs, leaves and the occasional glad. Look into succulents and herb bouts and corsages…they’re different and really beautiful. But I think you’ve got some really great choices already.

Do you plan on hugging him at all on your wedding day? That thistle is really great but could cause some significant pain especially if your gown is strapless! I like the cotton.

I LOVE the thistle, so chic. But, I agree wtih ktdid…could cause some pain! The cotton is probably much safer, and very cute as well :)

Flowers always stump me! I think it’s because they are all so pretty and narrowing them down to what you REALLY like, plus making sure they are in your budget…there is just a lot to consider!

I like the idea of them all being a little different, maybe with one unifying aspect (like the grey berries) to tie them all together. The thistle has to be my favorite, though!

I also like the cotton — I have just begun to look at boutonnieres and have gotten as far as learning to spell it correctly to help me search. When I asked my dad what he would want to wear, he said he doesn’t need one (helpful!).
