I love fast cars and high heels, and my favorite food is cake. Mr. Mary Jane and I are both full-time employees and students, and we just bought our first house. About Mrs. Mary Jane

I thought that Mr. MJ’s and my little ring-shopping trip would ease my questions about what kind of ring I wanted. Boy, was I wrong! As soon as we got home, I was buzzing with excitement and confusion. The saleswoman at one of the mall jewelry stores had shown me a few styles I liked. They were emerald and cushion-cut stones in antiquey “halo” type settings. But she’d also shown me a shape I’d never considered: the pear. I didn’t think I wanted a pear (I like symmetry), but I loved the idea of it: it was so unique. I hit up the internet for some help.

I went to The Knot (though I’d combed their archives hundreds of times already). I went to blogs like Rocktographers, where photos of rings are featured. And, I checked out online jewelry stores like Blue Nile, James Allen and Robbins Bros.

And, I found it. It was so beautiful. The ME16 by Danhov @ James Allen.

I couldn’t be peeled away from my computer. I loved this baby. The marquise stone made it so different, yet still symmetrical. I was ready to order that beauty and call it a done deal.

Somehow, though, Mr. Mary Jane convinced me to keep looking. Since I loved this style, I might be able to find similar settings with some more appealing features. So I kept on Googling.

This design (found at Wedding Solutions) was pretty close to my ideal style.

Rumour Online had this delicate style, but I preferred to have less space between the center stone and the surround. I also wasn’t a big fan of the wrap-around wedding band.

This one from Von Bargen’s had the long-side of the stone set perpendicular to the finger. Interesting idea, but not quite my style.

This one from Krikawa was very unique, but a little too ornate for me.

Even Amazon.com had some interesting options for marquise-shaped halo-style settings.

Alas, I still kept coming back to my beloved ME16, the first one I’d found. I was dead-set on that style. The Wedding Solutions and Rumour Online styles also had endearing elements. Finally, I knew what I wanted and could communicate it to (or force it on) Mr. Mary Jane!

If you picked out your ring, did you know when you found “the one”, or did you covet several styles?

those are BEAUTIFUL! my husband got my ring from James Allen and seriously, couldn’t have used a better company. He said it was a flawless process and my ring is really everything we both wanted.

Great choice ! :)

I’m a marquise girl also. My mom had a marquise and I just loved it. When my finace began looking at rings all of the stores kept asking if he was sure this it what I wanted. I absolutley love my ring and get tons of compliment mainly b/c its not one of the most common cuts.

Love the delicate band — but of course, I’m partial, because it reminds me of my engagement ring band! :-)

Beautiful! Are you having a separate wedding band - and will that wrap around?

I knew mine when I saw it… it was the perfect combination of things I like in other rings.

My setting is a Danhov! It’s by far the best quality, most unique, dainty, yet strong setting I’ve seen. They are a great little company. I originally saw the setting on James Allen as well, but our local jewler was able to get the setting direct from Danhov at a much cheaper price. You will not go wrong!

wow! that’s a gorgeous ring!
my FI picked my ring by himself, he only went to the jewelry store twice, bought it and proposed the next day! he got really anxious about having second thoughts (of the ring of course), but i think it was very romantic, ’cause he couldn’t hold on much longer to ask me to marry him!

I looked online for about 10 minutes before falling in love with the Ritani Endless Love round bezel set diamond ring in platinum. I laughed out loud when I saw the $15,000 price tag. We went to a couple stores without ever discussing budget. I was totally NOT expecting to get this ring, but we saw it and I tried it on. Once it was on, my fiance’s eyes sparked. He said, “THAT is the ring.” I was in shock. No way, no way, no way! Well, we went home with the ring that night. I didn’t even want to get it sized. I wore it loose for months, until about 2 weeks before the wedding. I love my ring. My husband was right — it is definitely the ring for me.

Ladies - just to clear up some confusion - I didn’t end up getting the Danhov ring - you’ll see mine next post, I promise!!

@mary-alice-me: Yes, I have a separate band. It actually fits flush, which is exactly what I wanted! ;)

Ooh! Pretty! I can’t wait to see what you ended up with! And I definitely want to see the band with it. Mine is a pear shape, and I am having a tough time figuring out what band I want, b/c I don’t want it to curve around like in one of your pics above. I want to be able to wear the band on its own, you know?

My ring was a total surprise and this was best for me, because I would have agonized if I had to choose. It must be so tough!!! All of choices are so pretty! I would say go with you first instincts. It seems like the ME16 keeps whispering to you. The Krikawa is so stunning, but I think I would love it as a fancy cocktail ring, but oh my it’s cool!!

FI and I went to different stores and I picked out the style I liked. He went to a jeweler and had it made. Mine looks like the James Allen, but with a round stone. Can’t wait to see yours.
