I thought that Mr. MJ’s and my little ring-shopping trip would ease my questions about what kind of ring I wanted. Boy, was I wrong! As soon as we got home, I was buzzing with excitement and confusion. The saleswoman at one of the mall jewelry stores had shown me a few styles I liked. They were emerald and cushion-cut stones in antiquey “halo” type settings. But she’d also shown me a shape I’d never considered: the pear. I didn’t think I wanted a pear (I like symmetry), but I loved the idea of it: it was so unique. I hit up the internet for some help.
I went to The Knot (though I’d combed their archives hundreds of times already). I went to blogs like Rocktographers, where photos of rings are featured. And, I checked out online jewelry stores like Blue Nile, James Allen and Robbins Bros.
And, I found it. It was so beautiful. The ME16 by Danhov @ James Allen.

I couldn’t be peeled away from my computer. I loved this baby. The marquise stone made it so different, yet still symmetrical. I was ready to order that beauty and call it a done deal.
Somehow, though, Mr. Mary Jane convinced me to keep looking. Since I loved this style, I might be able to find similar settings with some more appealing features. So I kept on Googling.
This design (found at Wedding Solutions) was pretty close to my ideal style.

Rumour Online had this delicate style, but I preferred to have less space between the center stone and the surround. I also wasn’t a big fan of the wrap-around wedding band.

This one from Von Bargen’s had the long-side of the stone set perpendicular to the finger. Interesting idea, but not quite my style.

This one from Krikawa was very unique, but a little too ornate for me.

Even Amazon.com had some interesting options for marquise-shaped halo-style settings.

Alas, I still kept coming back to my beloved ME16, the first one I’d found. I was dead-set on that style. The Wedding Solutions and Rumour Online styles also had endearing elements. Finally, I knew what I wanted and could communicate it to (or force it on) Mr. Mary Jane!
If you picked out your ring, did you know when you found “the one”, or did you covet several styles?
