Let’s Build Me Some Boobies

April 16th, 2009 @ 1:39 pm by Mrs. Glitter

I’m not well-versed when it comes to buying bras. I usually wear the same Calvin Klein or Gap Body underwire bras I’ve been buying since college. Which leads me to my next wedding-related challenge. Allow me to be frank with you, hive. The “girls” will need some wedding day enhancement. They aren’t the biggest girls in the world, and I’d like for them to really fill out my dress.

(CAUTION: Anyone reading at work, there are undergarment-related photos ahead…)

Here are some of the options I am exploring.

Victoria’s Secret Seamless Bustier: A simple multi-tasker (holds in the tummy, too). It seems low maintenance and easy enough for me to handle.

Cleavage Cupcakes:

The name alone makes me laugh. I’m guessing I would insert these bad boys into a normal strapless? Will they be too heavy? It might be strange if my chest appears to be down near my waist when the reception starts.

The Nu Bra: Looks promising. There has been a lot of chatter on Weddingbee about the benefits of this bra, including positive remarks by Mrs. Cherry Pie. Hmmm, if my girls were like Mrs. CP’s, I’d probably be off celebrating and not writing this post. :)

Takeouts - The Better Boob Job: Where do they get these names? Takeouts are the same idea as the Cleavage Cupcakes, and got great reviews on Amazon.
I’m going shopping this weekend for a strapless, and my removable boobs! I’ll let you know how it goes. Honestly, I’m just happy that Mr. G knows me so *well*. As a result, he won’t feel cheated and I won’t be embarrassed when I take off my bra off and two silicone “cupcakes” drop out. LOL.

Have you used any of the above products? Have you bought the perfect strapless bra for the wedding? Please share!

aHahahahaHahahhahahaha.
See, my problem is that all of these are “enhancers”. What if you barely have anything like 75% of the East Asian Population. Oh, meaning me. hahaha

haha. Love this post because I am not very well-endowed either…actually, I’d hardly even call myself endowed. I could probably still wear a training bra if I wanted.
I have had a lot of luck with the Nu Bra in the past. Lucky for me, my wedding dress allows me to wear a REGULAR BRA! I couldn’t be more thrilled, because I get to wear a good old fashioned padded bra!
I also always wear the GapBody t-shirt bra with underwire and have been forever. However, upon a trip to Nordstroms to find the perfect padded bra for my wedding, I discovered the BEST padded bra in the WORLD. I highly recommend it. It’s not the one I’m wearing for the wedding, but I loved the one I bought so much I went out and bought two more, and I am fully converted. Check it out. It’s OnGossamer, and it’s called the “Bump It Up Mesh Bra.” Comfortable, flattering, enhancing but soft… LOVE IT! Yes, it’s definitely a lot more $$ than our Gap Bras but honestly, I’ve never been more pleased with a bra in my LIFE so I had to splurge…3 times :) It gives girls like us hope!!

I bought a strapless Le Mystere bra to wear under my wedding dress and I’m very happy with the purchase. I tried on a lot, and Le Mystere was the clear winner. The Victoria Secret bustier was too thick for my dress, but I did like the material, though. Good luck!

I have the NuBra and wear it in place of a strapless bra all the time. It can give really good cleavage if you need a little boost in that area. It’s also pretty easy to put on. The only thing that sometimes bothers me is that if I get really hot, it gets a little itchy (as it’s attached to your boobs not letting them breathe!). Overall, though, I would definitely recommend it!

Haha just count yourself lucky that in 40 years, you won’t be kicking your boobs around like some of us.

And I sooo love the names for these lil chicken cutlet boobs! Let us know how it goes!

I should preface my comment by saying that I have not yet had a wedding, and when it comes to boobs, I have the complete opposite problem. (Don’t be jealous, they come with a tummy to match.) I just wanted to say that I have tried a few different bras for formal events, and in my experience, bras that do not have a band (like the “Nu Bra”) are not going to give you full support. Especially if you’re trying to create some cleavage, or at least something close to cleavage, the band is what pushes them up and together. The little inserts may work though, can’t say I’ve tried those. :) Believe it or not, there is a bra blog which may be helpful to you:

Good luck!

Good luck Glitter!! :)

Actually, if you have small boobs, I would recommend the NuBra Super Padded Feather-Lite (http://www.nubra.com/NuBra_FL.htm). Even if you didn’t need the padding, I would go with their Feather-Lite rather than the one you posted. It’s more of a bra material.

I had the Natural Bra (like NuBra, but a different company, no longer made) and bra cups sewn into my dress. Honestly, I was SHOCKED how well it worked.

I had some “support” sewn into my dress so I didn’t have to wear a bra on my wedding day. My dress has a semi-low back so it was basically my only option. It was great not having to worry about a “cupcake” making an appearance in the wedding photos!

Hahaha! I’ve used the Nu-bra in the past and liked it! I just purchased triangular shaped ones with less “oomph” to go under my wedding dress. But I also have very thin nip covers made of silicone and might wear those as well. The look is 1930s flat chested flapper (which I have down), but need a little bit of coverage. I just hope the self-adhesive doesn’t come undone and I have a “cupcake” hanging off my rib or something!

Good luck! I think stuffing the cupcakes into a shelf bra would do the trick!!! :)

Jo-Ann Fabrics sells something that looks just like the Takeouts — except they’re super cheap, like under 10 bucks. I would try those out first (and don’t forget to use a coupon). I’ve used them and thought they were great.

Like you, I am not well-endowed. I got the VS seamless bustier in nude and it has a lot of padding and because it goes around your whole midsection, it has a lot of push-up as well. I suggest skipping the cutlets and just do the boustier!

My sisters have something like the nu bra…neither one liked them! I don’t know their reasoning though!

I have the VS Seamless bustier as well and I really like the fabric. I recently wore it with a cocktail dress to an event just to see how it would feel, etc. and I was really impressed with the softness/support/etc. It was actually the only longline option I tried on that I could fasten myself without help.

i recommend the Felina bustier over one like the Vickie’s… the reason? tummy. see where the one you posted ends? it’s awkward, the good ones go down lower in the front, almost to your pelvis so it creates a smoother line with no (possible) bulges. of course there are other brands that have these lower ones too but this is the best one i’ve found, it’s $70 but worth it for your wedding, consider it an alteration cost.

oh, and a local store was going out of business so i bought the nu-bra for $10 and it’s been worth every penny. since i’m a little girl too i put a regular bra over these when i want to create some cleavage and it’s awesome… i’m probably doing both in my wedding dress, it can’t hurt to have more boob : )

I think you’ll look fine w/ or w/ out enhancements! We call those silicon boobies “chicken cutlets,” & a friend had an unfortunate drunken incident wherein her cutlets showed up in a bunch of photos–whoops. I’ve invested in Miss Labrador’s push-up, but since I’ve gained enough weight to grow a pair, I’m afraid of not having church cleavage. I even shortened my wedding dress straps to bring the v-neck up higher. I think there is something to be said about a “modest” bride that doesn’t have her enormous boobs on display.

In college one of my friend got into a pretty serious wreck. When the first officer arrived on the scene my friend was so thankful that it was a female officer…that way she could take out her “chicken cutlets” and put them in the glove box before the paramedics came and took her to the hospital! We still refer to any kind of boob insert as “chicken cutlets”!

I use these all the time to go out. I have a lof of low back dresses, low front, side, etc etc. So these are essential. The frat boys call them cutlets. Only thing is be aware that after a while they do lose their ability to stay on. Also if you get hot they’ll slip and the bra won’t hold. After a few months, despite their claims, they do not work anymore no matter how hard you try to clean them. They do feel quite squishy and soft unlike some bras which is nice. It doesn’t add quite as much cleavage or support as a normal bra would. So if you plan on doing a lot of dancing, get hot then it may be best. Other wise I love them.

The Cleavage Cupcakes are veeeeery similar what we’ve always called “chicken fillets” (hard t, yo) and I invested in a pair a while back. I wore them for one horribly itchy hot sweaty night, tucked in my strapless bra, and I think I ended up throwing them into my purse 3/4 through the night. They really plumped out my silhouette, which was awesome, but the discomfort was just too much for me to pass up making an un-recommendation.

i used the Nu Bra. I absolutely love it and use it going out clubbin too (however long ago that used to be, heh). It’s great and re-usable. I saved money by getting them at one of those local teeny bopper stores (like forever 21 but not in the mall)… u might be able to find it in Fashion District in downtown LA too.

I really recommend you consider getting bra cups sewn into your dress. My seamstress was able to sew them inside of the lining so you can’t even see them! They were fabulous! The “girls” were nice and perky on my wedding day. That way you don’t have to worry about a bra peeking out or any extra material around the middle because of a bustier. Good luck!

Ugh, I have the opposite problem - I’m pretty much having a new top made to my dress to accommodate what god gave me -
PM me if you want to borrow them!! (jk)

The scoop on all of the above choices???

Cupcakes - Can be placed into any bra that is properly fit, and can be positioned in several ways to give you great “umph”, bringing you up about 1/2 to a full cup-size

Take Outs - are similar to the cupcakes, they acually bring you up a cupsize, however it often requires a bigger bra, which is not so great

Corsets and Smoothers- are great if you want to bring everything in (around the waist) and up (where they should be) and can be used with the cupcakes or takeouts

the Nu-Bra is also great for backless or strapless gown wear and can give you more cleavage depending how you position it on your body, and also depending on how you care for it can last you 25+ wearings

Other options are to get get cups sewn in so that you don’t have to worry…

Having a great and professional fitting with your dress/clothes so that you get exactly the look that you’re looking for…

Otherwise depending on your cupsize, great strapless should NOT BE MOVING in any shape or for down your waist, the should be positioned straight across the back and you should be able to jump, dance, and party in it…

and when in doubt Hollywood Tape (double sided kind), comes in handy for keeping everything in place…

Congrats! and happy hunting!

Also as for the “cutlets”…

they’re great and come in various sizes from bringing you up 1/2 a cup to about 2 cup sizes larger… a good kind is “Nearly Me”… and its made of medical grade silicon (yes the kind they used in breast implants), and although they do resemble a food… your gowns and your “girls” will thank you for giving them the extra “UMMPHHH”…

Ha! & Ah! I still need to buy me some boobies!

I considered either the chicken cutlets (but I’m a vegetarian and totally creeped out by chicken ;) ) or Cupcakes.

I’ve used other products from that takeout brand (the “Low Beams”, ha!) and really like them. I just worry about sweatin’ my bootie (er, boobie) off in the Jamaican heat and one sliding out. What to do?!

:)

i’ve got the nubra and it works great, although i am horribly paranoid that if i start sweating like a pig in the summer heat, they’re gonna peel and fall off and cause a “Why is there a chicken fillet on the ground?!” commotion.
