Mrs. Labrador's Picture
Mrs. Labrador Retriever, Athens/Savannah Age and Occupation: 24, Student/Sports Reporter Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Physical Therapy Assistant Student/Future Dr. of PT Engagement Date: December 31, 2008 Wedding Date: November 2009 Venue: Whitfield Square/Savannah Station About Me: I'm working on my second degree from UGA (Go Dawgs!). I'm a self-proclaimed attention-w****. If it involves a camera, I'm in front of it! You'll never meet a girlier tomboy than me. I can go toe to toe with any guy on the subject of college football, and lift more than any girl in my gym, all without chipping a nail. I hope to someday be the only person you want delivering your sports news. My FI and I are the loving parents of three Labrador Retrievers (one of each color) and are planning a "Southern Romantic Charm" wedding in the beautiful, historic city of Savannah. I'm not extreme in anything except moderation... and wedding planning.
About Mrs. Labrador

I have a confession. I didn’t come up with our wedding theme of “Southern Romantic Charm” all by myself. The truth is, the city of Savannah did most of the work. How could anyone have anything BUT a romantic, Southern wedding in that city?!?

Our choice of venues reflects our theme perfectly. For our ceremony, Mr. Lab and I chose the charming Whitfield (or Whitefield) Square in historic downtown.

How gorgeous is this?!?

It has this cute white gazebo right in the middle that will be the perfect backdrop for the ceremony. It’s also on a residential block, so we won’t have to worry about tons of ugly office buildings in the background. The first time I ever visited Savannah, I knew I would get married on this square one day.

Can you tell how excited I am to snatch up this location? :)

We’re planning on renting a trolley to take our guests back and forth between the ceremony and reception sites. Because our reception site is only a mile away, we’ll be asking guests to park there. This will save them the hassle of trying to find the ceremony site (which can be hard because it’s one of 21 squares) and then struggling to find parking.

As for the reception site, we chose Savannah Station. I did a lot of research on potential spaces, but most started at nearly $8-10 grand, and had tons of rules about alcohol and catering, etc. The station is surprisingly affordable for its size and location. I love the history of the station (it used to be a train station!) and the fact that the interior works with our colors.

Here’s another confession: I booked the Station sight unseen! Because we live four hours away from our wedding city, I couldn’t easily check out venues. Knowing how popular Savannah is for weddings, I didn’t want to take the chance of losing such a beautiful venue. When I finally saw the site in person, I was not disappointed at all.

This is the first thing you see when you walk into the Station. I have a super soft spot for chandeliers, and this one in the parlor is absolutely gorgeous. I also love all the historic photos of what the Station looked like when it was still a railroad station.

The parlor is where we’re holding our cocktail hour. There’s a full bar, tables and stools, plus lots of space to roam around and mingle with other guests. They also provide antique tables to use for the guest book and hors d’oeuvres.

The station provides all the chairs and tables. I love the mini lights lining the wooden beams. All of the lights can be dimmed. We’ll be taking down the tapestries on the wall and adding paper lanterns to the ceiling. All that will be left for us to decorate are the tables!

The ballroom is a 6000 sq. foot space decorated in neutral colors (yay!) with no carpet (double yay!). Because the room is too large for our 75-guest wedding, we are using a theatrical curtain to separate the room into a smaller, more intimate space. What’s awesome about this is that the other side of the ballroom can be used as a backup ceremony site in the event of bad weather. We now have a backup plan, and won’t have to worry about a tent rental or people braving the elements. Woot!

At night, the Station is lit up on the outside with mini lights, as well. It’ll look so pretty for our departure!

Did you have to book venues without seeing them in person? Were you happy when you were finally able to see them, or slightly disappointed?

Oh. Ma. Gawd.
I LOVE your venues. Sigh. I absolutely love Savannah but have yet to make a trip there. I love all the teeny southern town charm.
I love your white gazebo at a town square ceremony site. I love the Savannah station reception venue. Love all the dark wood.
So so so pretty!

I love it Miss Lab!!! :) Absolutely gorgeous!
After my fiancee and I found out our first venue would be closing we had to book a second one without seeing it because we live in NC, 3 hours from Charleston, SC.
We were more than thrilled once we saw it in person.
We are also planning a Southern wedding complete with Trolley’s!
Won’t they make for such cute photo ops? :)

I love Savannah. I booked my ceremony site unseen. I liked the pictures online. In fact I only recently walked through my ceremony site.

That looks like such an incredible venue. You must be so excited! I did make a trip to visit my venue, but I’m booking just about everything else unseen. I made my second trip the venue last weekend and it was better than I remember it!

Congrats! My BFF just got married at Savannah Station at the end of January. The space was amazing, amazing, amazing! SO much character yet a great blank canvas to decor to your heart’s content! She created a winter wonderland forest inside and it was magical. Best of luck!

@Gerbera: You’ve GOT to plan a trip sometime. You’ll absolutely love it and want to go back before you’ve even left! You could spend a couple days touring all the squares alone!

@Emilydll: Charleston, eh? I’m going to have to keep you on internet “speed dial” so you can give me recs for places to go because that’s our mini-moon spot! More on that later!

@MexicanGirl: There are tons of squares that would be great for weddings, but the gazebo made this perfect for us!

@doublemint921: 7 months isn’t enough time for me! It’s going by FAR too quickly!

@LauraDavis311: Awww, I bet that was the prettiest wedding ever! I’d love to see pictures of it if you have an online link to them (maybe her photog’s website?).

@MaPo: I can’t wait to see what details of the space our photog captures! I literally stalled leaving because it was sooooo gorgeous. I would move in if I could!

@Newport Nuptials: I think the lady thought I was crazy when I called and booked it within 5 min. of talking to her! I could tell by her voice & pauses that she was wondering why I didn’t want to see it in person. lol

@Shannon: That is so cool! LUCKY girl!

We booked our venue without seeing it either. When we visited last week we were BLOWN AWAY. It is way more beautiful than we thought! And I know it’ll be an amazing locale with a gorgeous backdrop!!
