Mrs. Cowboy Boot's Picture
Mrs. Cowboy Boot, Santa Fe Age and Occupation: 25, Magazine Editor Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Artist and Whitewater Rafting Guide Engagement Date: April 28th, 2008 Wedding Date: October 2009 Venue: Devil's Thumb Ranch, Colorado About Me: I grew up in Los Angeles and have since lived in San Diego, Boston, Italy, Hawaii, New York City, and Santa Fe. I speak Italian and love pasta. My real passion is the outdoors, though. When I'm not at work, I'm snowboarding, hiking with my two dogs, mountain biking, surfing, cross-country-skiing, or boating New Mexico's rivers. Despite my boyish love for adventure, I'm a girly-girl at heart and am overly-excited to pull off the romantic, vintage-inspired, country wedding of my dreams.
About Mrs. Cowboy Boot

Occasionally, I break out the stack of wedding magazines I’ve obtained over the last year (can’t believe we’ve been engaged that long!) and sift through them to see if any articles are relevant to where I am now in the planning process. It’s amazing how certain articles become of interest at certain points throughout the planning process (i.e. dress pictures vs. invitation wording). Note to self: don’t throw any magazines away—even if you think you’ve ripped out all the “relevant” articles and pictures.

Last night, I was flipping through a Brides from a few months ago when I came across an ad for a dress. It made me stumble in my tracks. Had I selected the right dress? Oh my, I need to try this on now. Could I forfeit the $500 deposit I’d already paid on my dress and bolt for another? And when was I going to get to a dress shop that carried this dress? The closest store was six hours away. Yes, hive, I got a wee bit frantic.

Here is Ms. Priscilla of Boston B4306:

I’m not one for jackets over the dress, but without the jacket, this dress is stunning. (Okay, I even like this jacket a teaspoon amount). Watch the moment in the video when the model takes off the jacket. It’s actually really similar to my dress, but I can’t help but trip and fall over the beading and embellishments on the chest that my dress lacks.

So, I did what any sane, logical bride-to-be would do: I contemplated giving up my $500 deposit even if this dress was the same price as mine. I swooned. I swooned again. I picked up the phone to call Priscilla of Boston in Denver. I just had to know. How much was this beauty?

Then, quiet rained down. All was calm. This dress was $750 more than the one I’ve got waiting for me at Saks. I already let my budget get out of control on the dress front. There was no way I was going to dish out $4350 for a dress. Even if Priscilla of Boston can make the gown from scratch to fit. Your. Exact. Measurements. No alterations needed.

Okay, I’m going to go cry myself to sleep now.

Did a dress interrupt your smooth-sailing wedding plans?

I prefer yours! (And I’m usually all about Priscilla of Boston, Melissa Sweet and Vineyard designs!)

It is beautiful, but a tad on the pricey side! I say stick with your dress!

You have to stop looking at dresses. I have wavered a couple of times on my own dress and the only thing to do is to stop looking. It will make you second guess yourself. Your dress was lovely and is the perfect dress for you. Period.

Can you add your own beading to the dress(aka have seamstresses do it)? That seems like a reasonable solution…?

yes, yes, and yes.

it’s beautiful, but I don’t think it’s worth the extra cost either. Remember that on your wedding day you will look beautiful and no one will think you should’ve picked a different dress!

I crushed on a Priscilla of Boston also!
mmm… I thought I wanted the POB 2902 sooo badly…
Next time you go up to denver, you should try on your crush dress!
Even after I bought my wedding dress, I had to try on the other dress. I had to get over that crush!

I like the dress you have WAY better :-)

I think we ALL go through this. Reading other brides blogs helps me to not feel insane. It is really hard ot not question your choices when there are SO MANY other pretty pictures to see. It’s hard to not change you mind or worry you got the wrong dress.

I like the dress you bought better too! I think this shape makes the model look wider than she probably is, and no one wants that!

Uh-uh–your dress is WAY prettier–I’m not just saying that. It’s so flattering on you. I HATE the jacket-bleh. Same thing happened to me though–I hunted & hunted for my dress, finally found it after a year & like 3 mos before I’m getting married, someone ON HERE is selling a dress I think I like better. Nuh-uh, oh no, not gonna fall in that trap!

Literally a month ago I was in the same predicament as you. After looking at more wedding mags, I started second guessing my dress. I even went back to the store to try on more! I made them put a hold on my dress (which luckily wasnt in production yet) but after trying on many many many dresses. I still ended up loving my original. Maybe you should do the same to ease your worries. You fell in love with that dress for a reason!

This is so funny - I love following your posts because we have SUCH similar taste. I’m getting married in September in Colorado in a clearing of an aspen forest (on my parents property), and our reception will be in their barn. I also have this particular dress in my wedding folder, but I’m aiming for something simpler (and much less expensive). I just ordered the J. Crew Lucienne dress (the flowy one with gold polkadots!) on eBay a couple days ago. I’m praying I will love it. Stick with your dress - it’s amazing! :)

Miss cowboyboot, I think your dress is VERY lovely and you do NOT need to have any doubt about your dress. On the other hand remeber that you can add and exclude things to your dress to make it more yourself. It seems like you fall in love with the beadings! it is very easy to add. I love your dress and you will look beautifull in it in any ways!

love

the exact same thing happened to me and it was Priscilla of Boston. I had designed my dress for months and was going to have it custom made by a designer I admired for years in Portland.

But, then I saw the “dress” and it had 3 stars next to it indicating it was 3k +. I do not in no way want to pay that much for a dress so now I am hoping I will find it used. If that doesn’t happen, don’t know what I will do, maybe a knock off?

It’s so nice to dream and drool, but I’m glad you settled down. I have had several moments when I got carried away (the PERFECT invitations that were $8 each, not to mention that I already had some!) but I come back to reality…

I have faith that you will fall back in love with your dress soon enough. I starting crushing on other dresses too, but now that mine has been tailored to fit me perfectly, and all the other pieces that go with it (veil, shoes etc) are all in place, I feel like a million bucks in it and couldn’t imagine wearing anything else. Seriously though, I give partial credit to the fact that I just didn’t allow myself to look at others after a certain point…especially not ones in magazines which I just knew would be ridiculously out of my budget.

Oh honey, it’s okay. You don’t have to be faithful to your dress. It’s okay to window cheat…it is lovely, but I’m sure that if this dress is your taste, then the dress that you have already picked out is FLAWLESS!

Amazing! I did the same thing with a dress on the classifieds (Lela Rose) (http://classifieds.weddingbee.com/topic/lela-rose-lighthouse-wedding-dress) that I actually tried on and looked better in in the pictures my ladies took than in the dress I ended up getting. Although I was persuaded, I stuck to my guns, tried my real dress on last week and still LOVE it and wouldn’t change it.
PS! If you do come to Denver, I got my dress at the POB there and love them. Go CO!

The PoB is beautiful, when I saw that dress I too got a little teary-eyed and started screaming “YOU’RE THE ONE! The ONE I HAVE been waiting FOR ALL OF MY LIFE!” Not really, but you get it - I love that same dress. But then I looked at your dress… ummm JAWDROP! Your dress is beautiful, the bottom half is so whimsy and airy and I just want to crawl into it and twirl around on the hills of Switzerland - really PRETTY! Since you already have a phenom of a dress I would let the dress regret go. Plus, $4350 for a dress… so really $4850 since you already put $500 down on the Christos? Honey, that is crazy! I too have dress regret and think I should’ve picked “the other gown” but I am still so happy with what I have and know that no matter what dress I will be wearing in the near future I would think “what could’ve been with another?” I think it’s natural. When you have too much of a good thing it can get ugly :)

I can imagine second guessing but the dress you chose is AMAZING and perfect. Honestly I like your original better than this. It seems perfect for you! Don’t stress.

YES! and it was the exact same dress you posted about! My dress is very similar to the PoB- I just think it’s because I havn’t seen my dress in such a long time that I second guess it, plus my deposit was half of the dresses totaly cost, so there’s no way I’m foregoing that!

Ok. So this exact dress has also had me thinking about ‘cheating’ on my already paid for and much beloved POB dress 4200:
http://www.priscillaofboston.com/dress_detail.jsp?gid=220&sfid=50765&f=

*le swoon*

I think that no matter what, we will always second guess ourselves and think there are greener pastures, because frankly, these freakin’ dress designers all too darn good, and also want us all to buy 9 dresses.

You look stunning in your dress. stick with it! you’ll be dazzling!

I don’t now if it will make you feel any better, but I actually prefer yours! Is is possible that you can have someone add some beading to your dress to make it a little more similar to this new one?

I actually LOVE the dress you picked out already! BUT I understand your pain. I had ordered my dress back in October-08, my wedding is October-09. In February I found a dress I liked, then i started obsessing, but NO where in my entire state did they have the dress to try on. When I went to visit my sister, I knew I had to try it on. I did last weekend and fell in love. UH-OH! The dress was DOUBLE ($3400) the dress I had already ordered. After talking with everyone I couldn’t get it out of my head and I had to order it. You only get married once which means you can only wear such a beautiful dress once in your life! So hope that helps! Good luck!

My dress will be on in or under my budget and one I can afford. I may even go used. There are some really good consignment stores in my area. My budget is 300-400 or the cheaper the better.

I don’t like this dress at all. In fact, I kinda hate it and can’t believe someone would spend that much money on it. I dunno, looks like someone stuck cotton balls on her chest or something. Your dress is much better.

Your original dress is gorgeous, looks perfect on you, and is unique. This one, while pretty, looks like pretty much every other strapless dress out there. For what it’s worth, I’d stick with the one you already put a deposit on, it looks like it was made for you!

I’m not a fan of lace or boleros, but when I saw this dress on the PofB website a while back, it even made me swoon!
