Mrs. Cowboy Boot's Picture
Mrs. Cowboy Boot, Santa Fe Age and Occupation: 25, Magazine Editor Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Artist and Whitewater Rafting Guide Engagement Date: April 28th, 2008 Wedding Date: October 2009 Venue: Devil's Thumb Ranch, Colorado About Me: I grew up in Los Angeles and have since lived in San Diego, Boston, Italy, Hawaii, New York City, and Santa Fe. I speak Italian and love pasta. My real passion is the outdoors, though. When I'm not at work, I'm snowboarding, hiking with my two dogs, mountain biking, surfing, cross-country-skiing, or boating New Mexico's rivers. Despite my boyish love for adventure, I'm a girly-girl at heart and am overly-excited to pull off the romantic, vintage-inspired, country wedding of my dreams.
About Mrs. Cowboy Boot

Occasionally, I break out the stack of wedding magazines I’ve obtained over the last year (can’t believe we’ve been engaged that long!) and sift through them to see if any articles are relevant to where I am now in the planning process. It’s amazing how certain articles become of interest at certain points throughout the planning process (i.e. dress pictures vs. invitation wording). Note to self: don’t throw any magazines away—even if you think you’ve ripped out all the “relevant” articles and pictures.

Last night, I was flipping through a Brides from a few months ago when I came across an ad for a dress. It made me stumble in my tracks. Had I selected the right dress? Oh my, I need to try this on now. Could I forfeit the $500 deposit I’d already paid on my dress and bolt for another? And when was I going to get to a dress shop that carried this dress? The closest store was six hours away. Yes, hive, I got a wee bit frantic.

Here is Ms. Priscilla of Boston B4306:

I’m not one for jackets over the dress, but without the jacket, this dress is stunning. (Okay, I even like this jacket a teaspoon amount). Watch the moment in the video when the model takes off the jacket. It’s actually really similar to my dress, but I can’t help but trip and fall over the beading and embellishments on the chest that my dress lacks.

So, I did what any sane, logical bride-to-be would do: I contemplated giving up my $500 deposit even if this dress was the same price as mine. I swooned. I swooned again. I picked up the phone to call Priscilla of Boston in Denver. I just had to know. How much was this beauty?

Then, quiet rained down. All was calm. This dress was $750 more than the one I’ve got waiting for me at Saks. I already let my budget get out of control on the dress front. There was no way I was going to dish out $4350 for a dress. Even if Priscilla of Boston can make the gown from scratch to fit. Your. Exact. Measurements. No alterations needed.

Okay, I’m going to go cry myself to sleep now.

Did a dress interrupt your smooth-sailing wedding plans?

I prefer yours! (And I’m usually all about Priscilla of Boston, Melissa Sweet and Vineyard designs!)

It is beautiful, but a tad on the pricey side! I say stick with your dress!

You have to stop looking at dresses. I have wavered a couple of times on my own dress and the only thing to do is to stop looking. It will make you second guess yourself. Your dress was lovely and is the perfect dress for you. Period.

Can you add your own beading to the dress(aka have seamstresses do it)? That seems like a reasonable solution…?

yes, yes, and yes.

it’s beautiful, but I don’t think it’s worth the extra cost either. Remember that on your wedding day you will look beautiful and no one will think you should’ve picked a different dress!

I crushed on a Priscilla of Boston also!
mmm… I thought I wanted the POB 2902 sooo badly…
Next time you go up to denver, you should try on your crush dress!
Even after I bought my wedding dress, I had to try on the other dress. I had to get over that crush!

I like the dress you have WAY better :-)

I think we ALL go through this. Reading other brides blogs helps me to not feel insane. It is really hard ot not question your choices when there are SO MANY other pretty pictures to see. It’s hard to not change you mind or worry you got the wrong dress.

I like the dress you bought better too! I think this shape makes the model look wider than she probably is, and no one wants that!

Uh-uh–your dress is WAY prettier–I’m not just saying that. It’s so flattering on you. I HATE the jacket-bleh. Same thing happened to me though–I hunted & hunted for my dress, finally found it after a year & like 3 mos before I’m getting married, someone ON HERE is selling a dress I think I like better. Nuh-uh, oh no, not gonna fall in that trap!

Literally a month ago I was in the same predicament as you. After looking at more wedding mags, I started second guessing my dress. I even went back to the store to try on more! I made them put a hold on my dress (which luckily wasnt in production yet) but after trying on many many many dresses. I still ended up loving my original. Maybe you should do the same to ease your worries. You fell in love with that dress for a reason!

This is so funny - I love following your posts because we have SUCH similar taste. I’m getting married in September in Colorado in a clearing of an aspen forest (on my parents property), and our reception will be in their barn. I also have this particular dress in my wedding folder, but I’m aiming for something simpler (and much less expensive). I just ordered the J. Crew Lucienne dress (the flowy one with gold polkadots!) on eBay a couple days ago. I’m praying I will love it. Stick with your dress - it’s amazing! :)

Miss cowboyboot, I think your dress is VERY lovely and you do NOT need to have any doubt about your dress. On the other hand remeber that you can add and exclude things to your dress to make it more yourself. It seems like you fall in love with the beadings! it is very easy to add. I love your dress and you will look beautifull in it in any ways!

love
