Just Can’t Figure It Out

April 17th, 2009 @ 3:26 pm by Mrs. Cowboy Boot

My knot.com checklist has been hounding me for the past two months. “Decide on the bridesmaid dress,” it says to me, staring me in the face. And I have. Then I haven’t. Then I have again. Nope, not the one. Then… this is how the cycle’s been over the past few months. My ever-obliging bridesmaids must be getting sick of my, “This dress is cute, right?” e-mails.

At first, I thought I could be really simple about it. Choose a fabric (silk chiffon) and a color (espresso) from J. Crew. Let the girls choose their style. I sent the girls to their respective J. Crews to gauge their sizes. And, I ordered a few of the dresses to try on myself.

The Solid Silk Chiffon Whitney Long in Espresso

Just Can't Figure It Out : wedding bridesmaid dress 32 3

The Printed Silk Chiffon Whitney Short Dress in Sweet Cantaloupe

While I liked the fit of these dresses, they just didn’t do it for me. The espresso dresses were, well, fine. I wanted to love the printed Whitney, but it was practically neon in the shade, which made me nix it.

Then I saw this dress on Watters.com.

Just Can't Figure It Out : wedding bridesmaid dress Watters031 Watters03

Watters Style 4431

My two maids-of-honor went to try it on for me in LA and, again, it was just fine. At the time, my color scheme was still yellow and brown, and the yellow was kind of bland.

Stay tuned to hear about my current bridesmaid dress dilemma…

Did you go through a few dresses before you got the bridesmaid dress right?

I am searching for yellow gowns. I love the yellow at Jcrew, but I agree the Watters one is blah.

Try Melissa Sweet. They have a couple of yellow gowns that pop

Try Nordstroms or Anthropologie. They have much cuter dresses then at the bridal stores.

oh my gosh, you are singing to the choir sister! I searched high and low and after many, many months finally chose one from Nordstrom.com Whew!
Unfortunately for me, I was not able to get the dress I really wanted, because I took too long to find it. I know many places take several weeks so I would definitely keep looking into bridesmaid dress companies just to make sure you dont find one you love because after a while, you will not really have the option to buy it from them, without paying rush fees. ( what happened to me!)

I searched for months and looked at a zillion websites and I too found mine on nordstroms.com! They were as desribed, the price was right, the shipping was cheap and the delivery was fast!
Happy hunting, I hope you find what you are looking for.

Those dresses are adorable on you! I would have bought every last one of them on the spot! Ah, J.Crew, how I love thee!

I’m getting married in October, too, and it took me forever to settle on a BM dress. After months of back-and-forth, I finally chose Sophia by J.Crew. I thought it was all finally behind me, but there was one problem. All four ladies are well-endowed in the chestical region, and there’s a little too much cleavage for comfort on a couple of them. So… I’m sending those back and starting over. Boo. I love J.Crew so much, but I wish they would cater to ladies with more than a C-cup. :(

I love the first brown dress and the yellow number! What if you tied a ribbon around the waist to spruce it up? How about a ribbon with a multi-colored print, using hues of yellows and browns?

I am in the middle of the nightmare right now. At first I thought I didn’t really care about the BM dresses, but then I realized I was going to have to look at 7 girls in them all day long and in my pictures forever.

I really want to try to get out of the mindset that they must all be the same and in a solid color. I really want a darn PRINT! I also looked at JCrew and really liked the long version of the Whitney in yellow, but they ran out of small sizes and my sister is size negative 4!

I can’t wait until this part is over!

Please continue to pass along your advise!

heck yea! figured out the colors..aqua and orange. coordinator drew out our table schemes and everything. saw the bridesmaid gown and hated the aqua color it was in. but still ordered it. searched through my favorite inspiration boards and found our new colors. i called the next day and told them to send me as many swatches as they could. they did. i picked out the new color, and that was it.

i can’t believe i did that though.

I had the same problem with J Crew. I orderd a couple (including the Juliette dress) and was so hopeful. It would be easy and wearable again but I was less than excited also. The fit just wasn’t there. I ended up with Jim Hjelm dresses which should be coming in soon so fingers crossed. Can’t wait to see what you end up with!

I sent my bridesmaids on a wild goose chase for the perfect green dress that they could pick out on their own. I’ve kind of turned my back on it, and I’m glad I did. I’m too indecisive!

Oh yes. I changed my mind about four or five times. I just couldn’t get it right. I finally decided on the jcrew sophia dress. It’s so, so simple, but can be dressed up perfectly. Don’t despair, you’ll find the right one!

girl you’re not alone! i totally stressed over BM dresses- more so than my own dress! i had picked a color and a designer and none of the girls liked it… so at the last minute i opted for changing the color and let each girl choose their own style in that color and it worked out so much better! but then even after the dresses arrived they had to get altering too so it was a huge headache. but you can get through it- it’ll be all over before you know it.

Miss CB you are so beautiful! I’m glad you kept looking. The espresso dresses are pretty, but I can see how a brighter color would really add a nice pop in your natural setting. Can’t wait to see what you pick!

I was interested in that same Watters dress and was also disapointed in the color when I finally saw a swatch. I looked a lot on the internet but found their dress by chance when I found mine :)
