About Mrs. Joey

Overload!

April 17th, 2009 @ 11:27 am by Mrs. Joey

Mr. Joey and I are about to bust. Not in a good way, not in a bad way, and not in a financial way (yet). It’s been wedding, wedding, house, wedding, house, house, house, non-stop for the last 3 weeks. And it’s not just our wedding, but everyone else’s weddings, too. Mr Joey went to a friend’s wedding two weekends ago, and we’re headed to a wedding in San Diego this weekend. Of course, you know that a wedding isn’t just a ceremony and reception, but all the dinners and parties that go along with it. Like I said: wedding, wedding, house, wedding, house, house, house.

Take Saturday, for example. We started the day off well, with a nice long lie-in, followed by a yummy breakfast prepared by Mr. Joey. As soon as the last bite was in my mouth, my phone rang. It was my Dad asking us to meet him at Lowe’s in an hour to look at fences.

After Lowe’s, we followed my Dad to the cabinet and counter place. We’ve been going back and forth about cabinets and counters for weeks. After finalizing the cabinets and counters, we headed to a great local wine store to pick up a bottle for dinner. While we were there, we perused the their selection for possible wedding wines. We ended up there longer than we planned. We got to talking with one of their staff members about how much wine we should serve.

She said that taking into consideration the time of day, the time of year, and the number of drinkers, we should probably buy 2 cases of red and 2 cases of white. She also told us that we can get 5% off each case we buy, and we could return unused wine. Good to know.

After a nice walk around our future neighborhood, we headed home so Mr. Joey could sneak in a quick power nap. He had a little headache. While he slept, I tallied up the recent RSVPs and declines, answered emails from various vendors, completed my portion of the FOCCUS test, and took an inventory of the fabric and vases we have for the wedding. Later in the evening we joined friends where the main topic of conversation was the wedding Mr. Joey just attended.

This week Mr. Joey has to take his portion of the FOCCUS test, get pictures taken and his passport renewal application off and we’re meeting with our financial planner (finally). I’ve also been hunting for a new rehearsal dinner location.

Thankfully we’re headed to San Diego this week — for a wedding. Actually, I’m looking forward to San Diego. Sun! Give me sun! We managed to fit in a few extra days there, and are looking forward to being away from our computers (leaving them at home) and not going near a Lowe’s for a few days.

I think this break comes at the perfect time. As we near the 3-month mark for the wedding and ground breaking for the house (2 weeks!!!!), we know all the planning will get crazier.

Did you take a break from wedding planning for a few days? Did it refresh you or make you feel like you fell further behind?

I’ve got a mini vacay planned memorial day weekend. I’m heading to Virginia Beach to hang out and relax with one of my best friends (and hopefully enjoy the sun and eat a lot of yummy seafood!). At that point we will have been engaged for 15 months and the wedding will be about 2 months away. I’m already anxious for my break to be here!

Miss Joey, I really sympathize with you. My now husband and I started an major addition (doubling the size of our house) just 2 months after our engagment and just recieved the CO last week (2 months after our wedding). We spent almost everyday after work at either Lowe’s or Home Depot and always ended up there after date nights. We never did take a mini vacay, but we definitely could have used one!

Good Luck!

I thought I was the only one who was starting to get a little tired of the fact that if it isn’t the wedding, (or schoolwork for me), it’s Lowe’s. Or the tile place. Or the carpet place. Or Sherwin Williams. Or wait- maybe if Lowe’s doesn’t have what we’re looking for, Home Depot does?! AHhh!!
Even though I have to admit, planning the wedding and remodeling my FH’s house IS fun, a girl needs a break! I am going to Spain with my sister to visit a friend of ours in May and I can’t WAIT to leave behind school, wedding planning, and LOWE’S for 6 whole days!! Wahoo! Have fun in San Diego!!

I spent January in Italy, and after about a week and a half, I realized that I hadn’t even thought about wedding planning. I panicked at first, feeling as though I was going to be behind because of the break, but I calmed down when I reminded myself that all of the planning would still be there for me when I got back home. I hope the two of you are able to relax and rejuvenate!

we like taking weekend trips to LA for some relaxation and retail therapy :) it’s always nice to get away because you feel so recharged when you get back.

At 3 months out, we moved from Florida to Los Angeles… so we weren’t thinking wedding again until the 2 month mark!

Oh! Mah! Gah. I know your pain. Our wedding’s not as big a deal as yours, but I still have to make decisions for it. Like uh… where to have it… that’s kind of a biggie at the moment… And we’re about 3 weeks from closing on our first house. And we’re ALSO 3 weeks from the end of a very busy school semester. And we’re working full time too. So my life is like work school house house wedding house school school work work school house wedding (you get the picture).

Yes! The break will be well worth it. When the wedding thoughts start taking over my sleep, I know it’s time to set a goal, accomplish it, and take a break — rather than obsess about little things. Enjoy your trip and someone else’s wedding!
