About Mrs. Bruschetta

Tickled Plum

April 17th, 2009 @ 12:06 pm by Mrs. Bruschetta

Recently, the bridal attendants and I visited a salon to search for a matching dress that would complement the one the Bruschetta ’maids will be wearing. We selected a number of JLM Couture — Alvina Valenta, Jim Hjelm and Lazaro — bridesmaid dresses, but on the girls, none looked quite right. (Unfortunately, there were no samples of the three dresses I posted about previously.)

After eight frustrating fits, I suggested we try the Bruschetta ’maids Amsale dress. And… magic. Seriously. As trite as that may sound, the dress really did look amazing.

Despite how great it looked on everyone, I was hesitant to select the same dress for the bridal attendants (even if we did it in a different color), since they won’t be walking or standing with the bridal party during the wedding — wouldn’t it confuse our guests? But, Amsale Aberra — who I so want to hug right now! — had designed another knee-length, tissue taffeta dress that was equally flattering.

It’s more of an A-line silhouette than it appears in this picture. And we’ll be ordering it in a deep purple — Amsale’s tissue tafetta “plum” color — so it will blend well with the black Bruschetta ’maid dresses, but be slightly different.

The only issue? The 12- to 16-week production time has me worrying it’ll be a too-tight turnaround to order the dresses and get them in and altered for the wedding. I’m hoping someone from the bridal salon will be able to help remedy the situation, by either placing a rush on the order or simply telling me to relax and focus on something else!

I love the design — and have a new favorite bridesmaid dress designer. What do you think? And, what (who?) is the most flattering designer you’ve encountered on your bridesmaid dress search?

that dress is stunning! I’m nervouis about the lag time on my BM’s dresses as well. I was told 16 weeks when they ordered, and that would bring us to two weeks before the wedding–hardly time for alterations!

I found beautiful and flattering A-line dresses from Simple Silhouettes - Aster. We’re doing navy and I swear the girls can wear them again (I almost bought a 7th one for me!).

HAHA MB thats funny - I love my BM dresses so much that I ordered one for myself as well! I have 4 other weddings to go to this summer (not counting the ones I’m in!!) and that will be my go to dress. Im thinking of ordering this one, Miss B, in white for my reception after party dress! And perhaps navy for the rehearsal dinner…hmmm…

LOVE the dress, its perfect! My wedding gown is Amsale as well - she has the best stuff!

We haven’t started the bridesmaid dress search, but when searching for my dress I was stuck on Amsale! My very own will be here in August, and I can’t wait!

@KellyV: @acs87: Sister Bruschetta wore Amsale for her wedding, as well, and thinks it’s very funny all the girls (except me!) will be in Amsale for my wedding!

Can i ask a seemingly dumb question - what is the difference between a bridesmaid and bridal attendant???

@Victoria: Not a dumb question at all! I decided to create a modified version of the Southern tradition of the “house party” to involve a few high school friends with whom I reconnected after getting engaged and was already into the wedding planning. I’d already asked four close friends to be bridesmaids, and didn’t want to grow this group, so the bridal attendants will help out with pre- and post-ceremony stuff, wear matching dresses and be in some (but not all) of the group pictures.

I’ll be delving more into their specific roles in future posts. Check out these links for more background on my personal/friend situation:

We did a tight turn around on the dress and alterations. The dresses have yet to come in- but my girls have promised to take them straight to the alterations place once they come in!!
